I'm about to start playing in a new campaign and it seems quite interesting. I play with my family via Skype which works out pretty well. Including the DM there are five of us: my parents, my brother, his wife, and me. My wife used to play but we have a little kid so she watches him while I play.

My parents never played casters before so I assumed they'd go melee again. My sister-in-law is DMing and we four went to make characters.

Starting level 10, 23k gold.
I started with a Kalashtar Psion specializing in AC's. (Psion/Constructor)
My brother went Warforged Sorcerer specializing in rays (I think) and defensive buffs.
My mom went Elf Cleric with Plant and Celerity domains.
My dad went Elf Sorcerer (no idea the specialization).

So hey, whaddya know, four casters! This will be interesting.

Any experience with a campaign like this?

We had a party in a Final Fantasy 1 / nuklearpower inspired game that ended up going Black Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage, and Fighter. Not quite all caster, but close.

First level was rough* with little healing ability and only a few spells per day in a world and w/ a DM that was very unrelenting on the encounters. But we survived. And by level 6, we were making a habit out of turning hard-looking-on-paper encounters into jokes. My BM being a dedicated battlefield control caster in a heavily ranged-oriented party meant nothing anywhere near our CR could out-shoot us, and anything melee oriented could be locked down and shot at like fish in a barrel.

It was quite fun. It was actually nice having the Fighter around to finish things off once battle was past the turning point and using any more spells would've been a waste, to take out the few things that got out of my "mires of suck", and to cast polymorph on. So I'm not sure how a true all-caster party will fare, but cleric is baically a Fighter- that's 2 rounds of buffing away from being a Fighter++, so you should proably do ok.

*Though, the very first encounter of the campaign, which I'm positive the DM expected to be unwinnable as a sort of joke to start things off...we won. 30 imps attacking us on a bridge. My character had Web (Precocious Apprentice) and the other BM was a fire-casting specialist, so I entrapped them in web, fighter and RM picked off the ones that trickled out, then when most were almost out of the webbing, other BM set it on fire for 2d4 damage to all.
Years later, he re-ran the same campaign with new players who made a more balanced party of White Mage, Thief, Fighter (this time using Warblade, unlike our poor, literally a Fighter), and Summoner and the first encounter TPK'd them. So, there!

You have a shaper, have him pick astral construct and you'll be fine. You could see about talking the cleric into getting augment summoning if you're really worried about it.

Low level combat, especially at first level, is largely decided by the RNG, not too surprising.

Stream: How many times did y'all level from that? And were they FFI imps, D&D imps, or otherwise?

Yeah, since I'm a Psion/Constructor I have to have AC. So we can have a buff dude around, so to speak... I just find it interested we all coincidentally went casters when 2 of the players have never displayed interest in being casters.

Also, Stream, very cool story. I sort of want to do something like that now :P
