Ian decides to keep a nice chattery manner with the xeph, playing along with the madness. "Actually both, I want to order a specific staff and I have magical items to trade in to reduce the price. Does the Super Savings Shop have a Staff or Inevitable Defeat that I can save on, or at least order?"

Inevitable Defeat is a 3rd level enchantment arcane spell from the Player's Handbook II. I can yank out the whole entry if necessary but I'm sure Plans or Mono can help if you need DM-side consultation on this.

Nostaffnosir, butawandwiththespellIhave. Oneusedwithfifteencharges, anotheralmostnewwiththirty-eightorso, notsureexactly. Beforewetalkprice, showmewhatyabringslowpoke.

Although it's a powerful spell for the level, I'll allow it since it has several limitations, such as requiring melee contact or another spell to be able to use it at range. Also, no half damage for a succeeded save.

The no half damage thing is already in the spell, where every round except the first the target is allowed a save to end the spell and avoid the damage that turn. Also wand form doesn't work since it's not on my spell list and I have no ranks in UMD.

Ian procures the bracers and the fully-charged Wand of Color Spray. "But I must insist on a staff, as wands with the spell are no better than expensive sticks for me. As a specialist in magic items it shouldn't be unreasonable for you to create one if necessary, right?"

I know it's in the spell, it's one of the reasons I'm allowing it, because it's a powerful spell with powerful limitations. Did not know it wasn't on your list, though.

Sorry, life distracted me.

"I'll save the trade-in for when you acquire the staff." Ian replies. He puts away his items and leaves the store, heading back to the arena in the docks to look for a fight to pass the time and gain money.

No prob. By the by, Arena is in the slums, not the docks.Allrightthenseeyalaterdiregator.

As you leave, you feel a slight burden off your mind, though what it was, you cannot say.

When you attempt to leave the city, you find six mercs are questioning everyone coming into the docks, as well as two members of the City Watch. It is causing a bit of a backlog; the line of annoyed pedestrians extends far past the gate, and it looks like the wait may be over a half hour.

Spot check.

Always a good sign. But I guess extreme measures are in place when the person you find dead just left for elsewhere very much alive.[roll0]

It's not until you are nearly to the front of the line that you realize that one of the mercs is the brawny, slightly brainless paladin you so recently tangled with. He is eyeing the townsfolk closely, and his brethren have already retained two shifty-looking individuals for unknown reasons. At this point you are only four people from the front of the line.

I had actually wanted to leave for elsewhere instead of waiting in line, but was gonna wait until the spot check resolved to do it, not realizing it advanced time.

OK. You can either go do something in the city and return to the checkpoint later, or look for alternate exits from it.

Ian decides to go to the town square to see what the town criers are saying, paying attention to anything relevant to the events he orchestrated recently.

Ian is no doubt slightly chagrined to find that the impact of his actions has yet to be felt in the private sector. The crier is the usual mix of requests for bodyguards, aid in finding lost items or people of value, advertisements for the latest in elven men's headwear, proclamations of vile deeds from the rival empire, and one person who apparently paid the fifty gold for a message just to proclaim that he, Wendell Walcott, was a skilled and passionate lover.

I'm gonna have to retire Ian. I don't really have the motivation to keep going with this, and it will give me more time for other projects. Sorry about taking so long to say it.

sorry to hear it. Thanks for playing.
