Here's a prestige class I made because I wanted to make something that made specialist wizards more of A Thing beyond "I'm a wizard, my focus is ____. That's about it." It'll be getting a playtest as-is in an upcoming campaign, but I'm always happy for more feedback.

Skills: Knowledge(arcana) 7 ranks, Spellcraft 7 ranks
Feats: Spell Focus in your chosen school of specialization
Spellcasting: Must be able to cast 2nd-level arcane spells
Special: Must be a specialist wizard

Skill points per level: 2+int modifier

Spellcasting: At each level, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in the wizard class. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained.

Bonus Feats: At 1st level, you gain Skill Focus (Spellcraft) and Skill Focus (Knowledge(arcana)) as bonus feats.

Supreme Specialization: At 1st level, you must choose an additional prohibited school (other than divination) in exchange for increased benefits of your deeper commitment to your chosen school.

Spell-Like Abilities(Sp): At 1st level and every 2 levels thereafter, you gain a spell-like ability that can be used once per day. At 10th level, you can use your first spell-like ability 3 times per day. Treat the caster level of your spell-like ability as your effective wizard caster level. The spell-like ability you gain is determined by your specialty school.

Expanded Knowledge: At 2nd level and every two levels thereafter, add a spell that you can cast of your chosen school to your spellbook for free. This is in addition to the spells normally added for gaining a level.

Focused Arcana: At 2nd level and every four levels thereafter, the caster level of spells you cast of your chosen school increase by 1 (this benefit is cumulative).

Greater Spell Focus: At 3rd level, you gain Greater Spell Focus as a bonus feat. You must apply the feat to your chosen school.

Focused Metamagic: When preparing a spell of your chosen school with metamagic feats, the total increase in spell level is one less than usual, to a minimum of one level higher than the normal spell level.

Adaptive Learning: At 5th level and every two levels thereafter, you may add a spell of your chosen school from another class's spell list of a level one lower than the highest level you can cast to your spellbook. Treat the new spell as an arcane spell when you cast it.

Special Metamagic: Once per day, you can apply a metamagic feat you know to a prepared spell of your chosen school without increasing its spell level.

Greater Focused Metamagic: When preparing a spell of your chosen school with a metamagic feat, the total increase in spell level is two less than usual, to a minimum of one level higher than the normal spell level. This ability replaces Focused Metamagic.

Specialized Resistance: Dispel attempts against spell effects of spells of your chosen school you cast have their DC increased by 5.

Versatile Specialization: At 10th level, you have focused on your chosen school to the point that casting its spells are second nature. If you prepare a spell of your chosen school, you may spend that spell slot to cast another spell of your chosen school of the same spell level you prepared that day, regardless of whether the other spell has been cast.

master specialist(complete arcane) does this better, a lot better. Though I could see going wizard 3/supreme specialist 10/master specialist 7...
You give a lot of features for a full casting PRC, that replaces 2-3 feats.

Yeah, I know that the Master Specialist is really good, but I wanted to make something that could accomplish a similar goal and could be used in a game that, for whatever reason, could only use OGL-compliant materials.

well... the problem is this is all numbers stuff, and all powerful. Wizards have power already, spells. They lose one spell school for all the bonuses... ONE SCHOOL for 5+ feats, and ridicules meta magic. If you want an almost balenced version, just make 9 wizard ACFs. hell, the SRD has them (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/specialistWizardVariants.htm).

Free feats and SLAs is not the right way to go, and meta reducers is a road to the Wisconsin cheese festival.

or, a proper revamp of the wizard, that requires specialization would be a better plan. give that actual class features, and you have a better result.

This is dull and incredibly powerful, broken without being fun. nothing unique but an extra layer of power for a wizard.

Why are the Evocation spells only damage-dealing spells? Nearly 1/2 of all Evocation spells in the PHB don't deal any damage (19/45 Wizard spells, 33/81 among all lists).

Simply put, the first 3 seemed the most archetypal, and the latter 2 were pretty much just in keeping with them being damage-dealing spells. Have you any suggestions for alternatives?

Wall of Force is always fun in place of Cone of Cold, and is one of those special things that only Evocation gets (completely unbreakable walls through Force effects). Ice Storm is pretty nice as-is in that it represents the border between damaging and non-damaging effects, which Fire Shield can also do (they're both about equally iconic for me from my experiences with 2nd edition). If you wanted, you could change out Scorching Ray for Gust of Wind, but that would mostly be changing the spells for the sake of changing the spells.
