Am curious on the entry for the base class into the PRC.

Do the masks give them something to do , when not stabbing folks?

Yes and no depending on which Masks you choose to make. Some only really function for combat, while others, such as the angle mask, allow you to feather fall, make your alignment appear lawful good, etc. It just depends on which masks you choose to use for that day. Crunch wise you will need to take the master spell thief feat I believe to give the most out of this PrC. Thematically, it might be cool, but I see it a better fit with fluff for a beguiler + changeling race combo, just because of what the masks do to the PC while wearing, cool concept, just be sure you know what you are getting out of each mask before you make them. Wizards also has it for preview found here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20070105a&page=3

has their been any homebrew to expand the mask collection , that is not overpowering?

It feels very binderish

As far as I know, none, though google may change that, and essentially, yes, it is binder light, just with none of the side effects such as adhering to what your binded soul needs to work, such as always holding a candle, or you know, having the soul take over your body somewhat for the day, if the binding check is bad.

Masks give really second-rate support for a character's existing abilities, and are pretty weak to focus on as the core of a build. (Unless we're talking just a level's dip into MoMs, which is occasionally useful for things like claws, sneak attack or weapon proficiencies.)

One thing that could be problematic is that MoM isn't actually a spellcasting class, and doesn't have anything tagging it as arcane, so the group's going to need to agree to some fudging for it to work with practiced spellcaster or master spellthief.

If the goal is to make a workable character using Spellthief and Master of Masks, it can be done - you'll probably just have to rely on Craven pretty hard for combat capability. But if the goal is to use Master of Masks to make spellthief better, that's probably not going to happen - even looking at spellthieves' at-will SLA trick, you'd need to sink enough levels in spellthief, that the at-will abilities would be outdated by the time you get them (with the possible exception of the angel mask, which could make the dip a bit niftier if Master Spellthief is being fudged).
