View Full Version : The Silly Versus Thread

Inspired by Cranthis' Versus challenges, and I hope Cranthis doesn't mind, but here's a silly one.

Drunken Master Thrower vs. Drunken Master Specialist.

The rules of the versus challenges in general:

I'm going to give you guys two 3.5 classes, sometimes drastically different, sometimes very similar. I want to hear your opinions on who would win between the two, and why. The only rule is "Don't use tiers as your only means of explanation". This isn't any sort of contest, it is just a side by side comparison of classes.

Use your own logic, and your own builds if you want, and explain which side you think wins.

This thread is for gathering general opinions, and is not intended to copy anything similar that may have been done already, excluding my own posts.

In ths case, you need to have at least one level of Drunken Master in your build, and one level of the other prestige class (Master Thrower or Master Specialist).

Let's limit books to core + completes.

Cranthis approves. But Cranthis also thinks you should have submitted this as a suggestion. But please, carry on!

Drunken Master Thrower, because a drunk throwing knives. Or hammers. Or ale mugs. Or chairs. You get the idea.

His improvised thrown weapon can also target your touch AC, or a whole bunch of other neat tricks. I'm not going into a big build vs build here, but the sheer awesome of the concept is what I'm drawing from here.

Maybe throw in some hulking hurler or something for the ability to throw tables and other large tavern furniture at opponents.

Oh man, I can participate now! I'm going to agree with Kane0. A drunken wizard doesn't sound very effective. But a drunk guy throwing stuff everywhere does.

Hmmm... Alcohol does wisdom and int damage, right?

Except in the case of Drunken Masters. Drunken Master ignores the actual damage of Alcohol and replaces it with stacking CON and something else.

That, or Drunken Master just makes it so you can keep drinking infinitely. In which case: Ray of Stupidity wins the fight for the wizard. :smalltongue:

Actually...

Every bottle or tankard of alcohol he consumes during combat reduces his Wisdom and Intelligence by 2 points each, but increases his Strength or Constitution (character’s choice) by 2 points. A drunken master may benefit from a number of drinks equal to his class level.

This means the Drunken Master Specialist would lose spellcasting effectiveness every time this ability is used, but there is still a wide array of spells to use, even while drunk...

Of course the Drunken Master Thrower just gets better with drink... Which is actually kind of funny to think about.

I feel like drunken master thrower V.S. drunken master of many forms would be more fair.

Or drunken master specialist V.S. drunken maester

This is easy. Wizard 3/Master Specialist 10/ Monk 2/ Drunken Master 1/ISTOV or whatever 4 should be able to defeat any master thrower short of Anthrowhale's AMF fighter, which goes pretty far out of core+completes.

So, Cobra Strike Monk2/Wizard3/MasterSpecialist3/DrunkenMaster1/Incantatrix10/X2 and then just ignore the Drunken Master abilities. If you feel like it, grab Carmendine Monk. But you have 9th level spells, and kung-fu.

Edit: Ninja'd while I looked up Drunken Master Prereqs.

You're probably right.
I didn't think of that when I came up with the idea. Turns out there are many "Master" PrCs...

SO, let's go with that - Drunken Master Thrower vs. Drunken Master of Many Forms.
