I finally sat down to look at MM5 and the entry "Mind Flayers of Thoon" stuck out, so I decided to start there. I've read through it, and they look awesome, and make me want to write up a one-off Halloween encounter about the Mind Flayers of Thoon. Have the Mind Flayers be set up in the party's home town, and the party is just returning from a long adventure. But I don't really have time to study the book right now, and I can't be sure if I'll have my book available when I do get time to start sketching out the encounter (though I'll obviously have it with me when I get down to the nitty-gritty).
So I was wondering if the Playground had any important little tips that might slip by a cursory inspection of the Thoon entries. Are any of the creatures absurdly over- or under-CRed? Do Thoon Thralls end up terrible if you apply the template to level 2 or 3 NPCs who may or may not have PC classes?
