Mass on Sundays -- God knows you freaks need all the help you can get. 12pm; Lunch; 1pm is back to The Yard, The Shop, or Mass. Two hours later we're locking you idiots back up until 8pm. You get one more meal when you get out. Showers at 9pm; Searches at 9:45. Lights out at 10.

So do your Warden a favor and play nice with the rest of the inmates, unless you want to be put in a hot sleep deep underground
-- The Warden

Month: November
Day: 23, Saturday
Time:12:03pm
Weather: Overcast. Expect rains.

Dull grey light shines through the high windows of the luncheonette, the promise of cold rain in the few hours to come. The frigid november air seeps in through the vents above, which the prison uniform cannot keep out. Maybe it's the white walls, the high ceilings, the slop they call food, the fact that the day is half over, or maybe just the inherent freedom that comes with the Cafeteria, but it's possibly the most looked forward to time of day.

Today on the menu is chicken noodle soup. With the watered down broth, the weird lumps of meat called "Chicken", or the stale noodles; it's probably the most looked forward to meal on the list. Sides include too salty-crackers, burnt bread, and the mystery goop known as 'Mash Potatos and Gravy.'

It's Block D's turn to eat. As the overflow group, it's a lot of strange and varied individuals, from those with green skin to those with green scales to green plants. Some high-time villains from the past can be spotted here; but like their time in the spotlight, their additudes have faded. Guards stand behind the prisoners, watching them as they move through the line, waiting for someone -- anyone to mess up; so they can 'Correct' the offender with the stun batons at their side.

As of right now however, the prisoners stand in line, shuffling side to side awkwardly; always facing the "Food service technicians", always having both hands on the tray unless recieving something, and only speak when spoken to. Once you have your food, your free to sit anywhere you like, so long as you can be seen from the Balcony. Chatter is permitted if the Warden is feeling good that day, and it has been a good, quiet week. Those who already have their food are buzzing with conversation.

The Balcony is a second story, encased in bullet-proof glass, overlooking the main-hall in the cafeteria. Only the food line isn't visible from here, hence the security guards. An overhang combined with the counter prevents anything bigger than a bowl from entering or leaving the kitchen area from the cafeteria, but it never hurts to be certain. Anything else the Balcony can see, and if they see something they don't like, they're quick to employ the ARD; Anti-Riot Device; which is a fancy title for 'Shock collar'. Built into the MDF collar is a low voltage shock mechanism that, while not strong enough to kill a human being, is extremely unpleasant and incapacitating. Of course, the freuqency for the collars are all the same for a Block; so any single upstart can get the entire Block punished.

The massive clock on the wall has a red LED display that shows 57:04, counting down the remaining time till lunch is over and everyone is escorted back out to the Yard.

Trinith shuffled awkwardly through the line as his long legs struggled to meet the slow and choppy pace of the other tiny prisoners. A low growl slipped between his teeth, as the guard behind him talked about having to watch the 'animal'. He always hated that nick name, just hearing the useless waste of flesh say it made his blood run cold. He eventually got through the line with his miserly scoop of slop. It was never enough food, not for him at least. It was infuriating to see the small getting as much if not more food than him. Sometimes the servers would purposely serve him smaller portions, was it a test, to try and make him blow his top. Like when he first got to the island, in those days they would attempt of shock him down so often it led to the unintended death of others. Or more sinister in nature, a secret hope that he will grow weak from hunger so they can finally control 'D-Blocks wild Animal'.

Trinith took his seat and quickly ate as he watched the others of D block, they chattered, murmured, and plotted some in large groups some in groupings of two. It confused him, the weak would cling to each other and form a body of power only to oppose another body of power over trivial activities and pointless objects. The groups would scheme for more people, more resources, more time. It was all they could do to pass their time. New people would come to the island and be drafted into the bodies of power. Well most people, some, a select few that Trinith felt somewhat akin too where dubbed either to wild, to dangerous, or to lowly to be a part of the the groups. Trinith was all three.

It was rare that any even dare look at him. Many of these inmates new of Trinith the Indomitable, the Beast that ravaged the Sentinels. He had been the terror of 'Hero' and 'Villain' alike, doing as he pleased. Trinith was perhaps most famous for being sentenced to death multiple times and continually surviving after first being caught. He could sense the lesser peoples fear when he was near them and he fed on the fear. He loved making the pathetic squirm, but the people today seemed less unnerved by his presence. It was different people that usual next to him. Of course he knew none of them by name as none had ever bothered to attempt to talk with him. Sometimes Trinith thought that the other didn't know he even could talk.

He could feel the eyes in the balcony on him and he slowly turned to look in front of him. He fixated on the food of the man in front of him. His stomach was not sated by his own meal. In his mind he had thought of charging the window and shattering the pathetic excuse for a barrier and simply eating to his hearts content, but then they would know what he truly wanted and then they would know what to take from him. So Trinith stared intently on the food as the other talked he simply hunched his shoulders and stared at his desire.

This is open ended if another player whats to be eating next to me then note, that its your food i'm staring longingly at.

John stares longingly at his glass of water. The guards didn't need anything extra to kill his moral, it died every day as he was surrounding by his element and couldn't even make it into a bubble. Its not even subtle that the guards are here for power trip. The Typhoon makes his way around the cafeteria, looking for an open seat. He's been around long enough that he's knows not to associate with any specific group, lest other groups start targetting him. A few weeks ago, they say one of the inmates was bludgeoned to death by a rival group. The kid had only been in Alkatraz for a few weeks, wasn't very old, and probably didn't have any bad intentions. They say that the guards sat back and refused to do anything except shock the murderer after he was finished. While John is usually viewed as friendly, he doesn't exactly find the rest of the inmates the best conversationalists, either being full of 'war stories' or 'great ambissions.' John doesn't have any such ideas, he just wanted to make his life a little easier. So, with no real thought, he sits down at the table next to "the Beast." About a minute passes before he hears some drool hit the table, and looks up to notice the giant man staring directly at his tray of food. Realizing his mistake, and the danger he put himself in, he pushes his tray of food over and says, "I'll trade you my food for your water. I don't want any trouble. I know the collars don't really bother you, but they almost kill me," he says as he tugs a bit on the collar around his neck, imprinted with the numbers 5483 and the cleanest thing on his body, especially compared to his clothes.

John isn't kidding. While the colar took away his superpowers, it certainly left his weakness, electricity, intact. Every single time the colars went off, he would be rushed off to some medics. He had insisted that they use some other method, but he wasn't in any position to bargain with the guards. Instead, John had made it a minor mission of his to prevent the scruffles for his own selfish reasons. He drinks his glass of water before asking, "Do you remember what it felt like before you ever gained your powers? I worked in a laundry mat, just your average working stiff trying to get by."

Skidding to a stop on the bench across from the giant and one of the newer inmates Miles sends his tray skidding across the table towards the big man and his glass of water at the little. He launches into his patter, forgetting to breathe or pause at times, rattling off blather with what little of his lightening speed remains.
Yeah. Normal sucked. Although it is nice not to have to be constantly eating. Look at me, skipping meals like I'm trying to make the cheer-leading squad. Do we have a cheer-leading squad? You should try out big guy, you could do a decent job at the bottom of the pyramid. Say what is the top of the Empire State Building like, anyway? Namoi Watts nice in person? Or Faye Wray if you're a purist, I guess. Alright, more universal then. Is downtown Tokyo nice? Hi, Miles. Nice to meet you... Names? Nom de guerres? Codenames? Spandex sobriquets?
First thing you do on the inside is find the biggest guy you can. They can shut down strength, speed, energy blasts, pyro hydro ferro and telekinesis. But they can't shut down big. Big is forever.

The Typhoon realizes that whatever he says is probably still too slow paced for Miles, but he nods in agreement, glad to get some extra water. "But what did you do before you had powers? Where you a cheerleader?" he says jokingly, but he really is curious. On that note, he looks around for someone who looks experience, hoping to get the chance to get some advice from a pro. "And how did you finally get caught and sent to this hell hole? The name is Typhoon by the way, Blue Typhoon."

Sitting next to the group is a rather young man, barely older than a kid. He doesn't look to be in the best health, being rather skinny and frail, and he isn't particularly paying attention to his food, sitting with his head in his hands and muttering to himself, stopping when Miles starts blathering on. He looks over and speaks in a quiet, reserved voice. "Can you guys, erm, keep it a bit quieter and calmer? I'm trying to think about something important..."

"Not comfortable with civvies or don't have one. Rumor I heard about the big guy? No civvie. Not sure that's true. Who thinks of themselves as the Beast? Well besides professional linebackers. And the occasional insane wrestler. But no, I wasn't a cheerleader. Did some sports actually, tried football for a year. Was too slow to cut it though and too small to be the guy who's there just to occupy space. Not like this guy. Something tells me you could be an entire defensive line even with that collar on, couldn't you? Which leaves us with a water guy, a quick guy, and a big guy. Don't suppose either of you know a smart guy? A real one though. Not one of those guys who can build a million death rays on the outside and is drooling into his mashed pataters on the inside. A real genius. One who doesn't need the meta to make his mind click along."
Water guy. Stroke of luck. That leaves smart guy. You need the big guy to hit. The water guy to get off the island. And the smart guy to fit it together. Go team.

Trinith finishes engulfing the extra food before he decides to finally speak to the men who gave it to him. "There was no time before I was like this," he said slowly through a rough voice, rolling his his shoulders back to display his immense mass of self. The other inmates not directly talking to him made a small gasp and just hearing the unfamiliar voice made the guards with-in ear shot shap to attention as if his voice was a hostile inmate onto itself. Trinith looked oddly at the two small and unafraid men he was sitting with, put his massive fist onto his enormous torso and said, "Trinith the first." It was by far the most he had ever said to anyone in his four years on the island, but it was also the first time anyone had freely given him anything so it was instinctual for him to react to such odd behavior.

"You're not talking about starting another 'group' are you? I've been around only three years, but I know for a fact these groups never end well. Besides, the risk (he indicates his collar) seems too big for me." He pauses as the 'smart one' asks for silence, feeling a little curious as to why the scrawny kid is upsidedown. When Trinith finally talks, not only giving them a real name, but telling a bit about his history, the Typhoon is a bit shocked. "Death Rays. Funny them. Interesting fact, none of my abilities are even lethal. Can you believe that? That means I'm an even safer super than the super-'Heroes'." He turns to whisper to the speedster, "Sure, the big guy would be nice to have, but he's earned his reputation. Wouldn't he be a danger to us as well?"

Trinith , could you help me prove a point? Those supers you put in the dirt, did you go after them or did you kill people who came for you? Because if it's the second, the first rule kid is you don't judge a fellow based on what he has to do to stay above dirt. The 'Fast man' spoke to quickly for Trinith to catch anything he was saying. He was so used to not listening it was becoming a habit to drown out this that were not of serious importance, and that is how he judge almost all situations with talking, unimportant. Trinith gave a deep and nearly demonic chuckle at the 'Thirsty man' when he spoke of the collar and the effects it would have on him. "I could get collar off you 'Thirsty man'," Trinith said enigmatically through his razor teeth. "have done it before, you won't get shocked, can't know if you will survive, but collar will remove collar." Trinith's smile slowly lowered back to his normal emotionless face before he spoke again "if we leave they will follow, and maybe not even make it, then we take the forever sleep."

Madara, where'd you get the 'standing on his head' thing? What I meant in that opening post what I was trying to say is that he's sitting normally with his ass, but he's got his head in his hands (if I wasn't on my phone and able to do stuff like look at multiple pages and easily link stuff, I'd link a picture

David seems more interested in the conversation now it is starting to involve the collars. "If you're interested in getting the collars off...I have some ideas about the issue."

He takes a breath. Talking this much to random people, especially a big guy like Trinith, is more than he'd done up to this point socially during his time in Alcatraz, so when he does start talking, he talks quickly.

"I have...three ideas.

First of all, if I can get the parts and tools together, I think I'll be able to rig some kind of device to negate the collars, but that would take time - the collar's effects slow me down quite a bit - and there's also the problem of not getting caught by the guards.

Second, if we can get into the Halls, where we had the collars put on, I'm sure I can get the them off. The problem with that is that we aren't allowed in there, and to get there from here we'll need to go through the Yard, and with the guard towers they have there...it won't be easy.

Third, the shock collar part has a limited range, so if we get off the island without getting spotted they won't be able to shock us, so then we go with the first idea, just it'll be faster and easier, since there won't be any need for the smuggling part and we'll have the city to gather materials from, instead of just the Shop."

Having said all that, he goes quiet again, watching the others for their reaction.

Poor reading skills I suppose. I missread

Seems reasonable enough, if not a little complicated. But it seems getting into the halls is the most important thing. Let me guess, we'll need a distraction? Unlike the rest of you, I have nothing left of my powers until you get this collar off. But, once its off, my Element is everywhere. So if you get get it off, I can get us off the island.

Turning to the smart one Miles nods along with the three plans. Frowning at the second and third.
Well I'm not sure I can help us bust out or bust into the Hall but I can gather supplies with a little luck. They can turn off speed but not skill. Did a little lifting work before I was a super. Any idea what you'd need kid? I can probably get enough off the busted up junk in the Shop. Might even be able to swipe some tools if I volunteer for a work detail or two.

"Well...the situation means the ideal parts probably won't be around...so it'll depend on what they have...when they bring us in for work I'll be able to see what's around and what would be useful or not part-wise...for tools, well, stuff like a few screwdrivers, a hammer, a wrench or two, some pliers, that kinda thing would be handy."

Madara
2012-10-31, 03:51 PM
So we are agreed? Trinith, we will probably need you to get my collar off. I'm looking forward to that. But I think the most important thing right now is for us to make an actual plan. We'll need to get Trin's collar off, because he can handle their attacks, and we'll need to get mine off so we can escape via the water. Also, where will we go once we're off the island, won't they send a few superheroes after us?" He waits, while John may be good at finding flaws, he isn't so good at coming up with the solutions.

Trinith's brain slowly began to process the ideas of the 'Thinky man'. As he thought of the actual possibility a memory surfaced of when he had forcefully taken a basket ball from another prisoner in the yard. He had notice that it lessened the shock quiet a bit somehow, he didn't know why but before it fell from his hands the shock seemed trivial. Trinith felt pride in himself when he spoke up even if his lack of social grace made his statement completely confusing to any who weren't hearing his thoughts. "Bring me ball, and 'Thinky man' and 'Thirsty man' can make it to hall," he had confidence as he muttered the words to them in his version of hushed tones. "Then 'Thinky man' and 'Thirsty man' come back for Trinith and 'Talky man' or Trinith will hunt them down." Trinith was relatively new to the society away from his 'fathers' complex but he had quickly learned not to place trust in others.

Month: November
Day: 23, Saturday
Time: 1:00pm
Weather: Cold, a light drizzle

A bell rings from the courtyard. Time to leave.
”C’mon you freaks; leave your trays on the table and form up. Double lines on the north door headin’ to The Shop, double lines to the south heading to the Yard. Get a move on!”
A guard over the PA system yells into the cafeteria, although the words really don’t mean much. Most prisoners already know what to do by this point. It’s their turn to go to the Yard, but there’s always the Shop open.

The Yard.

After having that damnable collar slapped onto you, this is the first place that you see after the Halls. If you’re lucky, you’re brought in by night time when all the prisoners are locked up. If not, you’re greeted by whichever block is in the Yard that day. Catcalls, yelling, screaming, spitting, bets, leers, and a whole other menagerie of horrible greetings await you as you travel from here to whatever block you’re assigned to. It’s not a pleasant place. There are four fenced areas, each cornering off a section of courtyard for the individual blocks, leaving a plus shaped walk-way in the middle. The fences are high, barbed at the top, and, most importantly, overlooked by four guard towers; which are heavily armed with MDF-pulse cannons. While the Yard is mostly a ‘recreation’ zone for prisoners, it is, at best, bare bones. A few basket balls and hoops, cracked weights, and a whole lot of asphalt is pretty much what consists of the Yard. A few guards patrol the area during any time that a group is out there; most of the time just beating whoever gets too close to the fence, although some are ‘dirty’ and willing to trade favors, from items to preferential treatment, for those who still have some power on the outside world. Sometimes favors need to fulfill something a bit more base.

The Shop.

Of course, those who don’t want to be in the Yard are always welcomed to ‘The Shop.’ The Shop is a, for a lack of better terms, a sweat shop, fulfilling orders for whoever needed cheap prison labor. The shop is just massive rows and rows of tables where each prisoner stands for a couple of hours, in assembly line fashion, creating whatever cheap trinket of the day. In the back are massive washers and dryers, big enough for even Trinith to fit in, but generally one or more of them are broken. There isn’t anything you gain from working in the Shop, but it’s a good way to not become target practice for the Guard’s in their tower, and if you’re not in favor with the local groups out there, it’s a good way to stay underneath the ‘Protection’ of the guards. At the very least, you’re underneath a ceiling in case the rain comes down too hard. Today’s Shop widget seems to be a McDonald’s toy; a sort of wind up pony.

rorikdude12: There is no bigger, angrier dude than Trinith in the Yard.

As you get to the yard; a fight is already under way. Two guards, standing outside the chainlink fence, were trading money as two middle-weight guys duked it out in the middle of the basketball court. They were partially surrounded by the two ruling gangs in the Prison: The Provincials and the Sheep. The gangs didn't have much power except what they could inflict on one another, with the occasional capability to get stuff from the outside back in. As far as why they hate each other; some say it's a ploy by the Warden to keep the prisoners from teaming up against him; others say it's from grudges between villains on the outside, brought in.

A basketball lies in the corner of the Yard, on the other side of the fight.

-----

As you get in to the Shop; Block B is already currently hard at work, putting together a small, mechanical, pink pony in assembly line fashion. A rather bored guard looks over you, then motions to the back of the room. The last table is already set up, ready to go, and empty; save for two repair-men and another guard having an argument near by. The repair-man's tool belt is resting on the table as he's having a heated argument with one of the guards, on the topic of the broken washer machine. It seems like they won't be back out for a week, and they do not have the parts to fix the machine. The guard is letting him know it's unacceptable, but neither person seem to be gaining any ground.

Block B is known for housing a large number of elemental villains.

rorikdude12: There is no bigger, angrier dude than Trinith in the Yard.

Tyler sidles up casually to watch the fight and try to figure out who's in it.

As Trinith sees the fight and the lonely basket ball he sees his chance. As everyone is paying attention to the fight he casually lumbers over and picks up the ball. It feels so tiny in his massive hands. Trinith looks around the towers and at the other guards of the yard.
[roll0] vs Perception 10 (Thank you IQ not being tied to Perception) checking for people noticing him. IF he sees anyone looking his way he will turn his back to them before this next action.
He then takes a seat and rips his massive claws into the ball.

If successful Trinith will begin shredding it into long and wide strips.
[roll1] vs All out attack 4 + brawling 17 +3evaluation + (anything i forgot or don't know about(this is my first Gurps game). With Damage of (at str 16 or 18 with strike str 1d+2+1claws+1 brawling so [roll2] Is there something im missing?

He then crudely waves the two new compainions 'Thirsty man' and 'Squishy man'. Hoping that they would come quickly.

Tyler notices his compadre and moves away from the fight. He goes up to Trinith.

Suprised by the Large One's seemingly quick success, he runs over to the basketball. However, he's a little worried that things are going too smoothly. Still, he motions for the giant to try his plan. I'm either gonna die now, or live in this prison for the rest of my life.

The Typhoon plans on keeping the broken collar on, once it stops working, so no one will notice the change. In addition, he plans on having Trinith hide the basketball under his shirt to use on the others.

As he moves through the shop, Miles slows. He's not moving slowly, but deliberately. There's no wasted motion, no sudden stops or starts. The trick, to not being seen, is simple. Don't do anything that catches the eye. Just exist. Simple, plain, uninteresting.

Embrace the zen of the pissant on the street.

With a calm practiced motion, Miles reaches for the tool belt and makes to palm a few of the smaller and easier to conceal goodies.

Trinith:

No one seems to notice you as you pop the basketball, despite the noise it makes. Shredding it is easy due to your claws.

Miles:

The guard has his back to you, and the repairmen are too distracted by the conversation to notice your filching. Take 2 items no bigger than a hammer that can be commonly found on a tool belt.

Tyler:
The two men in the yard fighting are Zhu, the previous Lord of Lightning before stripped of his title by Ishteel. The other is seemingly some no-body, a scale-y like dude with slitted eyes and rather long limbs. Probably a 'villain' who didn't register for MAGE

Tyle goes up behind Zhu and shouts, "Oi! Sparky!"

If he turns around, Tyler will clock him in the jaw.

Tyler has a brawling skill of 12, but he's using an All-Out attack, and thus has an effective skill of 16,but with a -5 for targeting the face, that's only an 11.

[roll0]

If it hits, [roll1] x 1.5 for hitting the face.

David takes his time as he heads through the Shop, looking at all the bits and bobs around the place that may be useful, before drifting over to where the repairman and the guard are arguing, listening to them talk.

With a practiced motion Miles palms a wrench and a screwdriver, tucking them both back along his arm and slipping them up his sleeve. Without breaking his stride he moves past the belt and on to one of the workstations, settling into mindless labor to pass the time until he can get the tools to their in house genius.

@Shop
Nothing noticed about the ill-gotten gains. The filch was successful. he guard, while arguing with the repair-men, suddenly gets a call over his hand-held radio, telling him about a mass fight that broke out in the Yard. The guard sighs, and lets him know he'll be there in a second, and to keep the shock collar on stand-by. He motions to the guard infront of the room, who responds only with a nod, before jogging out the door at a light pace, the repairmen left shaking their heads, packing up their gear and preparing to leave.

The inmates shift in their collars nervously.

@Yard
Zhu was caught unaware by the attack, not expecting someone from behind to come up and attack with only a word's warning. He stumbled back, obviously surpised, only to be caught again from behind by the lizard-man. A shout from Zhu's side about an unfair fight, a shout from the lizard-man's about 'Him not being ours'. It didn't take long before the shouting came down to punching. Zhu swings at the lizard-man and knocks him out in a blow (He was winning, anyways), and turns to Tyler; taking a swing at him.

1d6 Effective skill 14
A hit will deal 1d6+1 damage.

Edit: Forget this dice thing, I got dice sitting at my desk. Zhu hits, dealing 3 damage if the active defense fails.

As the fight broke loose Trinith quickly grabbed two of the strips. He stuffed one them to the back of the collar and the other to cover his throat and major veins. He tosses the other four strips at his companions and grunts "run, get to halls" before jumping into the fray.

He lets out a load roar as he claws upward at the neck of the inmate that had swung at Tyler hoping to rip his head clear off and cause a huge distraction. He was going buck wild now.

[roll0] vs Brawl of 17 +4 All out attack - 5 to hit neck so 16
and damage of
[roll1] +2(Str 16+2 Strike strength) +1(claws) +1 (Skill) then times 2 for location
so 14

The Typhoon grabs the strips, a little unsure of what to do. "Aren't you going to rip off the collar? I need my powers." he says to the giant man. Whether or not there is a response, he does start to head to the halls.
