Scoring System:

To score the hall of fame I'm using a popularity ranking, you vote for your favorites by recommending them.
[B]1) Popularity
-Each unique user who recommends content will give that content an additional +10 popularity score, this is additive.
-Popularity has stacking bonuses from veteran and king status, termed "popularity granting".
-If two submissions of equal popularity are voted for, the content that was submitted first is ranked higher.
2) Veterans
-Veterans of the playground (ones who have been members for 3 or more years) have an extra +5 to their popularity granting and a 10 submission maximum.
3) Kings
-Any user who's content gains a spotlight gains the king status, granting an extra +10(+1% of all their content's total popularity) to their popularity granting and unlimited submission maximum.
-The king title comes with a once-per-month use "showcase", in which they may submit, and grant popularity to content they have not previously added popularity to, this submission will appear on the top area of the thread until the next spotlight is released. This content can be submitted by it's creator.
4) Hanuman
-The user "Hanuman" cannot gain the veteran or king status, nor can he gain a spotlight or showcase or be featured in a numbered ranking on the hall of fame.

1. Ziegander's Ravnica: City of Guilds (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230304) project

Ziegander's series here is just straight up staggering in its quality, adherence to the rich setting, and creative mechanics. Each class practically has its own subsystem (or incorporates a pre-existing system in a new and interesting way) and syncs up perfectly with the established fluff and mechanics of the Ravnica block. One of, if not my favorite pieces of homebrew on these boards, and I wish that Ziegander would finish it someday.

2. [B]Djinn in Tonic's 3.5 Homebrew Theory: The Philosophy of Creation (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=10471219)
[Other]

A beautifully-written, thought-provoking treatise on game design, and why we do what we do. It is informative, accessible, and concise (perhaps too concise - I want more!) I'm the first to admit that when I design a poor class, I imagine the disembodied spirit of Djinn in Tonic floating just behind my shoulder, whispering "Do something other than make the numbers go up." I don't always listen (because I'm pressed for time, devoid of creative inspiration, or just plain lazy), but that voice is a constant check on my work. If I, as a homebrewer, am "standing on the shoulders of giants," one of those giants is Djinn in Tonic.

3. Zap Dynamic (and others)'s The Blackwood (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=232675)
[Campaign Setting]

This one's right in my wheelhouse. A low-magic fairy tale world, with a focus on mystery, legends, and stories. It manages to carve out some conceptual space that hasn't been done a million times, and the various stories contributed to the setting make it feel fresh and new, more like an anthology of mythological literature than a series of maps and demographics. Simply put, the world breathes, it lives, it practically sings (in some cases, quite literally). It's a fluid, dynamic place where you can imagine anything happening. There's a little bias here, as Zap has incorporated some of my work into the setting, but even if he hadn't, I'd be recommending it wholeheartedly for the fluff alone.

4. Kellus' She Blinded Me With Science (Gramarie Rules) (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=252794)

If you haven't read this, go do so. It's mind-blowing. I don't have even the barest hint of scientific training or knowledge, so I may not be able to grasp some of the finer points, but Kellus has done a fantastic job at creating a system that seamlessly blurs the line between science and magic. Not only does it ooze magitek flavor, but it's a mechanical wonder - the theory and the execution are top notch. Kellus is some kind of genius. There's never been anything like it before, and no one will ever do it as beautifully or as well. That's a fact.

5. [B]Gnorman's Complete E6 Compendium (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215986)
[Base Classes, Races, E6]

Shameless self-plug. Got to take a little pride in my own work, right? I'm not the only one around here who loves E6, but the system has its fair share of problems (dead levels, lessened but still significant power level variance between classes, can sometimes feel like you're chopping out a good portion of the game, etc). I've tried to correct this (to a debatable extent of success) by making all casters spontaneous fixed-list, giving non-casters nice things, and offering a modular system whereby every class gets a new, hopefully meaningful ability at every level.

I'm not adhering to the numerical rating system, because I don't feel it applies to all things equally. Djinn in Tonic's essays, for example, don't have any crunch to be evaluated.

Great presentation and full listing, Gnorman.
You've been granted the veteran status. (Maximum 10 recommendations if you choose to use them.)

I'm going to be removing the rating system as the recommendation text is enough on good presentations such as yours, the hall of fame listings will be based on popularity alone and I'm planning to have about 10 slots for numerical rankings and then alphabetical listings under it including ones on the rank board, for easy-access.

Here's two more votes for now, I really do like Kellus' Gramarie and a lot of Djinn's work as well as Gnorman's E6, but I'm going to keep it fresh out the gate.

Remember that you can recommend content that is already on the board, improving it's popularity. =]

============

Owrtho's Ozodrin (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153536)
[Base Class]

This has got to be one of my favorite classes ever, it satisfies so many of my wants at the gaming table that it raises the bar for character play. Having the ability to flow seamlessly from one custom-SPORE(game)-like monster to another round-to-round is a real treat, and not only is each session enjoyable but each week between sessions is filled with "what new form can I imagine and draw up in time for the next session"? In addition to "what con can I pull off" or "how can I solve some of the intrigue to this plot?"
It really expands the depth of play, makes it fun, modular, and delightfully horrifying. I fully recommend this class to any player who wishes to play something truly odd or aberrant and doesn't mind complicated character building.

Draken's Evolutionist (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=240717)
[Base Class]

The amount of versatility and options available to this class are staggering, coming closer to a blur in the line between generic class system and DnD base class this one has a decisively monstrous flavor to it.
The fact that you can buy your (Ex), (Su), (Sp), (Psi), and a wide variety of other things with a pool is outstanding and the freedom this allows the creator is pretty great too. The spread of this class' ability to cover a huge variety of archetypes while still staying true to it's flavor is awe-inspiring and exemplary to base classes in general. I recommend this class to anyone who likes monstrous characters and a very long character creation time.

Ha! What a great way to wake up! This is a real honor... thanks so much!

As far as my world is concerned, it's gone through several iterations at this point (and it's still evolving), but throughout the whole process I've tried to keep it as focused as possible. Even those foci have changed a little throughout development, but it's nice to know that people are enjoying what I'm creating! I can't make any deadlines or anything, but I hope to have a full .pdf of the setting available soon.

I have a couple nominations in mind, but I've got to head to work. I'll post them this evening!

GitPG's Tears of Blood Campaign Setting (http://tears-of-blood.weebly.com/) (Home Page) and GitPG Forum (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=241728)
[10 Popularity] [Campaign Setting]

Recommendation: This "community-built" project lasted about 3 1/2 years on GitPG and had over 100 separate contributors, many of whom can still be found here. The first post was on 10-18-2004 at 02:35 PM by CaptN, who challenged the Playground: "Let us, together, make the greatest Campaign ever. Have the races, classes, political entities, plot twists and the like that we want. A GM made campaign FOR GM's! Steal idea's, make up your own, as long as it's fun that’s all that matters."

A lot of great material was created, and all that remained was to assemble it into a coherent form. Sadly, the project never reached that conclusion. As the activity level dropped off, The Giant was having to reduce the server load, and the forums with the least activity were the first to go. This included the Tears of Blood material. The last post, as near as I can tell, was 4-10-2009 at 4:18 PM by Silas the Monk inviting a poster to a new Forum elsewhere. Unfortunately, the project never again attracted the level of activity it once had, and that forum is also closed.

I came along toward the end, after the GitPG forums were locked but before they were deleted, and began compiling the information. The link above is the result of that compilation effort, and also features a list of the known contributors. Fortunately, Silas the Monk (one of the main contributors) had archived the material making a meaningful compilation possible.

I know that some things are not quite the way they were intended, but I hope that the spirit and vision of all those creative people has in some way been preserved for all to enjoy. In the true spirit of the GitPG "community" I nominate the Tears of Blood Campaign Setting (http://tears-of-blood.weebly.com/) for the Homebrew Hall of Fame.

Ok!

First off, I should say that I only descend from the worldbuilding ivory tower venture out of the world-building cave once in a great while. In the wide world of homebrew, I fail many more Survival checks than I pass. However...

1) Gnorman's E6 Compendium (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215986)
[Base Classes, Races, E6]
Recommendation: Gnorman's work was my first experience with E6, and I think it's a wonderful enrichment of the system. When I heard "low power" I came running, and when I started to really take a look at everything, I realized that the sheer amount of work and dedication displayed by Gnorman is staggering, and it has served as an inspiration to me (and, no doubt, many others). I would recommend this work to anyone who's looking for an interesting alternative to the intricacy of modern systems, especially anyone who hearkens back to the days when the game had no trace of wild power gains. It's a wonderful introduction to the world of the Old School Renaissance, and I find myself returning to it time and again. Excellent work, Gnorman!

2) Wyntonian (and others)'s Patria Campaign Setting (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=193582)
[Campaign Settings]
Recommendations: The fact that this setting is a freshman effort is amazing. It's been around for a long time (almost 2 years!), and the amount of work Wyntonian has put into it is clearly evident. Whether it's collaborating with fellow forum goers to get the right perspective on European history, combing through the Monster Manuals (ALL of them) to determine which creatures fit in which regions, or scouring the boards for the right homebrew to add (and even developing his own), this guy has got it together. It's a rich world with hooks a plenty, and it manages to tread ground both familiar and strange without seeming forced or hackneyed. This is a great lesson in what it takes to put a world together, and the level of detail that can be put into it.

The Demented One's Epic Martial Discipline: Invincible Sword Princess (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134459)
[Alternate Rules? Other?]

The Tome of Battle is cool. Or, at least, Disciplines are. This is The Demented One's take on continuing the "martial characters can have moderately nice things, too" idea into Epic Levels. While I don't think it's the best possible way of implemented the idea of Epic Disciplines, it is, as far as I know, the only one that actually exists. And that is deserving of note, in and of itself. Invincible Sword Princess is, as a discipline, also pretty neat, though rather basic (intentionally so, I imagine) in its mechanics.

Also, just sayin', every time you don't vote for this, you're just supporting overpowered magical characters and boring martial characters :smalltongue:. Just sayin'. Just sayin'... :smalltongue:.

sirpercival's Homebrew Martial Discipline Compendium (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=255468)
[Other?]

Okay, so, once again, the Tome of Battle is cool. Or, at least, Disciplines are. Or, at least, the idea of Disciplines is. In practice, I like a lot (most?) of the homebrew Disciplines I see a lot more than the canon nine (to be fair, I expect they were intended as mere prototypes for the concept, anyhow).

And this compendium? Well, it puts them all together in a very neat and easy to reference format. Because of it, I found a lot of disciplines that I'd never seen or heard of before, and when I'm designing my own stuff, I can glance through and see if anyone else has done the same (either for inspiration, or comparison, or just going "Oh. That's really really good. Guess I don't need to do this one after all.").

Krimm Blackleaf's Daeva (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143186)
[Prestige Class]

Remember when Krimm Blackleaf was a thing? It was difficult to pick one thing he did, as he was quite the prolific homebrewer, but I decided on the Daeva, for the following reasons:

1) It's a martial maneuver using class that,
2) Isn't based on an Anime (his Bleach stuff didn't do anything for me) and,
3) Is for non-standard-PC races, which I don't think we get enough of, personally

It's an initiator class for Outsiders that wish to step outside the whole Great Wheel alignment paradigm, and poke at it from afar. They get stuff that allows them to count as different alignments, count others as different alignments, and even apply templates to other Outsiders, giving them the chance to choose their planar nature for themselves. Cool concept, nice execution, done and done.

Fax Celestis' Guide to Homebrewing (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10313)
[Other?]

Remember Fax Celestis? Before he decided to go off and do that d20r thing (that I think was mostly a waste of effort, sadly - if I want to play D&D but better in every way, I'll play Dungeon World or Burning Wheel or something), and then have babies and stuff? Well, before that, he did a lot of cool things for 3.5 D&D (which are still up on his wiki).

I wanted to mention this thread in particular, in that it's what started me on homebrewing in the first place. I referenced it constantly for formatting, explanations, and examples, before making my first few attempts at homebrew (which were horrendous). And, through doing homebrew, I managed to stay interested in the Giant in the Playground community and in roleplaying in general, even through times that I didn't necessarily have a gaming group to play with.

If it weren't for Fax's guide, I might've never hung on to the point of eventually finding things like Dogs in the Vineyard, Sorcerer, Free Market, and so on, and just loving roleplaying games as much as I do. I might've ended up becoming an Anime geek instead, or a CCG geek, or a heroin-addicted vagrant, or someone capable of sustaining healthy relationships with women.

Probably for the best.

Great submissions, guys.
I added a few more tags for martial disciplines and such, and changed credit of the discipline compendium.
I've granted the veteran status to you, Xephas.

Right now the rating system goes 1-->10 and then unmarked *'s for now, but I'm not satisfied with the system and want to change it at some point-- I am fully open to suggestions.

Next one, I'll keep it fresh until after the next spotlight:

Djinn in Tonic's Chameleon (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100597)
[Base Class]

I happen to be a fan of this class, not only because it vastly improves an existing lack-luster and frankly pathetic PrC but very much like most of the classes I like, it tries to dismantle the idea of a PrC by making them an outdated concept. I HATE PrC's, as they are classes which give you a split fork in the road right before stuffing that level into a box and only letting you escape if you multiclass for the 3rd time and slowing your levels in ratio to the party's ECL and skewing the balance of the game. Taking a PrC is confinement, and punishes straying from it.
Adversely, this class allows you to don a class as if you were to don armor, and drop it just as quickly. I adore this concept and it's exemplary for what kind of class I want to eventually construct.
I recommend this class to all players who don't mind expansive choices.

Mr.Bookworm's FEATHERMARKED COURIER (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/archive/index.php?t-216197.html)
[PrC]
Recommendation: While sadly stuck in the GitP thread archive, the Feathermarked Courier is the single most evocative Eberron-based Prestige Class it has ever been my pleasure to read. It's a delightful 3-level class based around the Orien House Dragonmark's feather fall ability, and managed to turn a class based entirely around feather fall into one that I dream of taking in some campaign. Be sure to put the image link into your browser: it does a great job of conveying the charm and feel of the class.

T.G. Oskar's Retooled classes (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9539457&postcount=83)
[retooled Baseclasses]
Recommendation: These are well done retooled builds of the WoTC published classes that may lack luster, or are obviously weaker than other classes, Oskar gives them a boost in power while making them well designed overall. Great work and amazing quality.

DragoonWraith's Midnight Occultist (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157493)
[Binder-Incarnum PRC]
Recommendation: One of the most widely used Binder-Incarnum PRC's on the boards, a well designed Prestige class that has an immense amount of fluff and supporting crunch. Awesome sauce.

Dralnu's Indigo Trickster (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=199905)

Heya guys, works pretty busy as xmas is coming up (56h work week right now) but I'm making time!

The tallies are in and because the votes are still pretty spread out I won't be doing a voting thread for the spotlight, so for early november the top space goes to Kellus' "She Blinded Me With Science (Gramarie Rules)", there will be another spotlight in late november but of course keep nominating and voting, we want to preserve the great works! =]

Haven't read it yet, but the image is very cool.

You can avoid the "archive" format, by the way, by clicking on the link at the top, or by going here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216197).

EDIT: Read it. That is amazing. Excellent piece of work, that. Has Mr. Bookworm done other 'brew? This is great stuff.

DragoonWraith's Midnight Occultist (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=157493)
[Binder-Incarnum PRC]
Recommendation: One of the most widely used Binder-Incarnum PRC's on the boards, a well designed Prestige class that has an immense amount of fluff and supporting crunch. Awesome sauce.
Generally agree, but might be worth pointing out that the latest link is at Competitor Games (http://forum.faxcelestis.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22); that version has all of the book-published Vestiges in it.
