I am presently running a canned adventure for my Shadowrun group, and for the fight against the boss, a dragon tainted by dark magic, I want some a good boss theme for him. I was thinking something dramatic, with some creepy undertones to it. Sadly, my knowledge base of music pieces leaves me at a loss. Do you, the playgrounders, have any suggestions?

Can't go wrong with the OoT Ganondorf Battle Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFB7gQNw8Vo).

Anything from Metal Gear Solid might work. The remixed Mantis Hymn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvqyR3BG24s) theme from MGS4 might be good pre-fight music.
Or Rex's Lair. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNqUhh08nZA&feature=related).
Oh yes, and RAXA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccsST7SskXw&feature=related) from Portable Ops, which is unfortunately rather short, but might be a good opening to be followed by something longer and less direct.

I think the original Mantis theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxbRy0azzQE) would make for some good background music if they're going to be wandering around for a bit first. Then you can use the MGS4 version for the pre-fight.

If none of your gamers are familiar with Final Fantasy VII, Those Chosen By the Planet and One-Winged Angel could work (but they'll sound horribly cliche if any of them are).

Lavos' Theme from Chrono Trigger could work also. If you do, World Revolution might be a good "collapsing lair" theme if that's part of the plan.

All can be found on Youtube fairly easily.

Drowning Pool

"Let the bodies hit the floor/
Let the bodies hit the floor/
Let the bodies hit the floor/
Let the bodies hit the floor"

Especially if you don't anticipate all the PCs surviving.

As for a more general "theme" music, I like to play the final battle theme from the original Conan movie on a loop. Basil Pouledoris. Gotta love 'im.

Can't go wrong with Final Fantasy 6 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYLvj5WrKAQ).

Also, how about some epic final boss music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buifCKc9RNU&feature=related)?

shameless promotion of a childhood friend: http://vimeo.com/48137943#

its with lyrics and is a bit rock, but it sure could make for a very unique and memorable signature theme for a villian

The sound track from Nier is pretty good. Any of the "battle"tunes could work (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL02C82955A229CFA2)

The Shrine Battle and the Big Boss Battle work especially well.

if you are into some epic classical music (imo the best background music for epic adventures) you'd want to try Wagner's music from Die Ring des Nibelungen (most notably die Walküre), or Dance of the Knights by Prokofiev. They are generally considered awesome pieces.

And maybe this (http://www.televisiontunes.com/Jim_Hensons_The_Storyteller.html) makes a good introductory song...

Reminds me of The Builder (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBaO5mO7bGU) from Blood Omen 2.

Made for an actual un-shown boss fight. Might start of a little slow, but does build up the momentum.

I'll see your Final Fantasy 6 and raise you with the power of METAL. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb31vfYuXfs)

Though when I need epic music, I seem to find myself turning to Super (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKpXpNLs9H0) Robot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3HcfmPAxCY) Wars. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkPvR1i8Y_8)

I like the vector tune from Final Fantasy 3. (yes it's 3, it came to me from wal-mart with III on it back in the day.).

This is the song I'd play during that battle, from the Persona series, which is made of winning songs. It's the final boss theme of The Answer.

First thing that came to my mind was something from the Dark Souls soundtrack. Seathe the Scaleless (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRuvdP3qjUM) has a pretty dramatic piece with kind of creepy undertones. A slight bit on the insane side of creepy, but Seathe at least fits the magic part.

Dance of Curse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_49H_N43jQ) is good generic epic music.

Mass Effect Overlord battle theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgYM8uRcsIA). The boss theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BPWWa-NUu4) can work, too.

The ultimate dragon-fighting music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgDQ8OMUYNg). :smalltongue:

Fever Dream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55ACcYAT7nE) is absolutely badass for all your epic bossfight needs.

He Who Brings the Night (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4v-BV2OJsI) is quite badass, and has dark tones.

Undead Chase! (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/368924) could work. Somewhat dark, more heroic though. YMMV.

Anything from classic castlevania games is awesome for RPG bosses. Seriously, if this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWMN91gMD_4) doesn't get your blood pumping, you might be dead (or undead), so you might want to get that checked out.

Definitely a lot of good suggestions here. I'm gonna have to decide quickly, since the big fight will likely go down next session.

Of course, do to how the group has handled things in the module, there's a significant chance things are going to end with the PC's dying. Trying to discourage the cops from coming after you by killing them and destroying their stuff... doesn't really work.

There's a mix of Holy Orders (Be Just or be Dead) by S.S.H. that really gets the blood going.
Might wanna check that out.

It does for certain Central and South American drug cartels. They simply have to think big.

I find for Big fights the classics make the most impact

Oh Fortuna- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GD3VsesSBsw

Mars, the bringer of War- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0bcRCCg01I

Mad World- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53M0sLX_cjY

Lux Aeterna- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKLpJtvzlEI

Suite Gothique- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Wm-wSRVk5A

Don abandons Alice- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOwKZmyAJ7k

(Not really Classical but its really powerful)
Counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ejsM0VF-Os

Toccata & Fugue in d minor- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FXoyr_FyFw

Just to name a few

It does for certain Central and South American drug cartels. They simply have to think big.

It can work for very weak states which simply don't have the resources to take down the lawbreakers (often bandits, gangs, or militia). It can work in any situation where law-enforcement is corrupt or ineffective. Regardless, it takes a lot of persuading to get entire law-enforcement agencies to back down through force alone.

But in an economically stable, well-policed state with public accountability and strong regulatory institutions, criminal elements simply can't last by intimidating local authorities. Even the most hardcore gangs fall once the authorities decide to crack down.

I would suggest this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs7qCeYkUk8)

It worked for one corrupted champion, it may work for another
