http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=251987 (previous Flashman Esque character thread)
In this thread, I just wanted to know if there are characters that is similiar to Flashman (Coward, Manipulative and a Fake hero).
Here's what I know today,
- Zapp Brannigan from Futurama (Tactical brilliance of a typical Imperial Guard Commander, Hollywood scriptwriters and Mookie during Orc Battle, AKA dumb).
- Lord Flashheart from The Blackadder (Flash by Name, Flash by Nature).
- Captain Qwark from Ratchet and Clank (Though he became more heroic).
- Ciaphus Cain from WH40k (Hero of the Imperium).
- Rincewind from The Discworld (Terry Prattchett claimed that he is based on Flashman).
- Prince Blueblood from MLP
I don't know about his hero part, but he's a major prick.

Just to show how old I am
The Victor was a British boys comic, one of the characters was Gerald Cadman in the strip 'The Fighting Coward' (1976-89)
Cadman is a liar, cheat and utter coward who nevertheless maintains an image as one of the british armies finest officers in WW1 thanks to luck, his own low cunning and his long suffering batman Tom Smith

How about Cade Masters? He's just plain lucky, and people mistaken his "unfortunate" acts for Heroism.

I'd argue about Lord Flashheart actually. While the first iteration of the character we only have the words of other characters that he's as heroic as he claims we have no evidence against it either.

The second iteration is definitely heroic, leading the almost suicidally deadly flying corp, planning to attack a German trench alone (mind you, it turns out to be British anyway), and going behind enemy lines to rescue brother fliers.

I'll also nominate Arnold Judas Rimmer from Red Dwarf. An incompetent, arrogant, coward that is mostly hated by his crew but consistently cast himself as the commanding officer and savior of the lowlife beneath him, even when quite a few of the problems they face are directly Rimmer's own fault. This is made even worse when we see an alternate reality version of him showing he had the potential to be one of the greatest heroes in the multiverse.

Guess if Daring Do books are all fake exploits, and she might got her treasure through cheating and bribing.
