So I am planning to start a steam punk style game and I was just wondering what cannon rules people like(if any). Right now I am leaning toward D20 past. Although I can not find any loading or firing rules for them there so if someone could tell me where they might be I would appreciate it. Also any miscellaneous comments or advice would also be appreciated.

Just refluff a ballista. Maybe raise the damage by a size category or something. Mixing d20 systems is generally not a good plan.

The DMG has stats for firearms, but I'm not sure if artillery is among them.

You can find rules for Cannons in third party book like Swashbuckling Adventures that is the port of AEG 7th Sea in D20. Another book using rule about cannons and etc. is in Pathfinder Ultimate Combat, in the Siege Engines section.

Cannons start about halfway down. Not a bad set.

Okay thanks. I will have to check all that out. I want something semi realistic. I know that is slightly unreasonable in a fantasy game but something that is fun and still not completely crazy would be nice.

Why not? Just wondering on your thoughts. I do not plan to borrow all of it. Just the bits I need and make sure it all makes sense first. I am already not doing classic D&D 3.5.

It is not.

Because content from other d20 games is balanced against different classes, monsters, and design assumptions.

Huge-sized "Standard" Bombard: 8,000gp

Gargantuan-sized "Heavy" Bombard: 8,000gp

Seems legit.

Same error in the book. 6,000/8,000/8,000. Maybe the difference is the target DC vs damage. The standard bombard is DC 20 and the heavy is DC 25. Bigger damage (9d6 vs 7d6) but less accuracy and need more crew.

I don't know that it'll fit your purposes, but The Quintessential Dwarf has some cannon goodies in it too.

That whole book is loaded with problems, and that is just another one of them. However, as someone has already pointed out the lack of price difference could be to make it a more appealing option.

The heavy bombard requires
- 2 more crew
- 2 more rounds to aim
- 2 more rounds to reload
- +5 to the DC to aim the cannon
- Ammunition costs 50% more and weights 20 pounds more than the ammunition for the standard bombard.

Honestly, I think the standard bombard is better. >.>

If you want something dumb from that book in regards to gunpowder weapons, look no further than the "Fire Lance."
The Fire Lance
Exotic Weapon
Price: 25 GP
Damage: 1d6
10 ft. range
1-4 misfire chance
Piercing Damage

"This primitive firearm is nothing more than a long tube that, when ignited, propels a short gout of flame and a javelin.

Unlike other firearms, the fire lance is wildly imprecise, and targets AC rather than touch AC. A fire lance is always treated as having the broken condition for the purpose of determining the effects of a misfire. A fire lance uses a javelin and 2 doses of black powder as ammunition."

It's a javelin, that takes a full round to reload, and blows up in your face 20% of the time you try to use it, even after you take exotic weapon prof. to use it. Awesome

Honestly I do not love any of the rules I have seen so far. I do not have access to some of those books though. I do not really want to just make my own rules but I may have to.
