Have you guys noticed this yet? I can't really properly tell you how excited I am, as David Braben is totally a childhood hero of mine.

Elite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_%28video_game%29)
Zarch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zarch)
Conqueror (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conqueror_%28video_game%29)
Frontier (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontier:_Elite_II)

Maybe that will give some idea about who he is for those too young to remember the days of yore :elan:

Anyway, check this out. He's got a kickstarter up for a new Elite game.

He wants to push the boundaries of modern gaming like he did before, and I have every confidence that once again he will create something amazing. I hope you guys agree, and want to help the game happen.

Man, I can't wait!

Am I really the only one here who remembers Elite?

Plenty, I'm sure...probably about as many who remember that Braben was promising an Elite 4 more than a decade ago, and maybe are a bit leery about the likelihood of him finally producing it! Plus I suspect a lot of people are put off by the description of this as a multiplayer game.

I like the plans to add in multiplayer, but in the pitch he's pretty clear about it being fully playable in single player.

I don't blame him for wanting to wait for the hardware to develop further before this (which is apparently what happened with Elite 4). But seriously, you don't think he'll deliver a game, and deliver it on time if the funding is a success? I guess we have to disagree. He has a history of delivering quality games, on time and on budget.

And yes, I do admit I'm a huge fan :elan:

Personally I'm putting in the £30. I'd pay more but I don't have much income at the moment. That will get me the game itself when it comes out, plus a few other benefits. Seems like a pretty good deal.

I know that a few folks have been discussing it in the Kickstarter thread. =)
