Ooc is now up;

Link to original ooc (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258040)
Link to recruiting should we need it. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=14208669#post14208669)

And I'll go with my usual Dark Green/Slate Grey for npc speech.

Big 16 in case we need to reference it:
•1. What game system are you running (D&D, Call of Cthulu, Palladium, GURPS, etc.), and if applicable what edition (Original, Classic, Revised, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, etc.)?
3E/3.5/PF

•2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)?
Homebrewed setting

•3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many?
About 4 players total, though I may go slightly larger or smaller, depending on the amount of interest.

•4. What's the gaming medium (OOTS, chat, e-mail etc.)?
Forum PBP

•5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)?
level 2, or level 1 with up to +2 LA

•6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with?
Standard level 2 pathfinder PC wealth, +# enchantments are treated as +2000g=+1, +8000g=+2, etc(so a +1 flaming weapon would only be +4000g), and firearms(from pathfinder ultimate combat/srd) are allowed

•7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes?
Any class is fine, though wizards, and sorcerers must select 3 schools of magic to solely draw their spells from(in addition to universal spells), and the cleric, druid, oracle, and favored soul are limited to a maximum of 6th level spells(other then cure/heal, inflict/harm and resurrection spells)and no class may use wish/miracle, planar binding spells, or any shape changing spells other then disguise self, or the form of the “X” spells from pathfinder. Spells resistance also always applies to damaging spells.

•8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species?
I'll list the allowed races in a section below, though humans, elves(basically vikings, but fishermen rather then bandits. they also have some scottish influences), ogres(smart ogres, who are somewhat oni-like in appearance), goblins(smart, non-evil ones), and fairies(a race mostly comrpised of yakuza and assassins) are the most common in Stormport

•9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points?
Max HP at first level, 1/2 HD +modifiers every level after.

•10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?
No alignment, as it doesn't fit with the setting, smite abilities simply target foes hostile to you at the time of use.

•11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it?
Feel free to mutliclass, and I'm not using xp penalties for multiclassing

•12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?
I'll roll standard hidden and npc rolls(perception and such) and roll initiative, though all other player rolls will be rolled by players

•13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules.
Nothing specific, though most spell casters are restricted, and items are enchanted with a slightly non standard method

•14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)?
A large or small background is fine, as long as it explains why your in Stormport, though that bit can be as simple as living there.

•15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above?
Probably an even mix here.

•16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters?
any 3.5/3E from ToB, ToM, OA, or the spell thief, dragonfire adept, dragon shaman, or beguiler class, or any pf is fine, as is the Ozodrin (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153536) and the Magical Girl (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=218981)homebrewed classes, since they seem balanced. and the martial study feat can be taken as many times as you wish.

Assorted Lore;
The Setting:
Lerath(main planet in the setting): Lerath is home to many continents and lands, and is roughly 5.5 times the size of earth, though it has standard earthlike gravity. It has two moons; Ire and Nathos, each appearing in opposite phases, except on the winter equinox, in which neither is visible.

The 14 red winter stars: The 14 red winter stars are just barely visible behind Ire and Nathos most of the year, notable only by the small red halo they create around the moons much of the year, during winter quarter 7 of the 14 can be seen fully, ringing whichever moon is closest to a new moon, though all 14 are visible on the winter equinox.

The Eastlands(home continents of the countries of Oland, Rasari, The Swartzwald, and The States of Auk): the eastlands are the collective term for the continents and islands most renown for the countries of Oland(a small coastal country, without much power), Rasari(the largest country, spanning most of the northern eastlands, and possessed of great military power, though it is oddly peaceful, at least currently), Swartswald(a large country, in heavily forested, mountanous terrain in the northern portions of the eastlands), and Auk(a collective term for the many desert city states in the southern portion of the eastlands, as well as a name used to describe an ancient fallen civilization that once dwelt there)

The Mid Ocean Belt(a huge island chain, home to several islands nations, such as the City States of New Oland, The Green Isle, and the merchant city of Tallbridge): The mid ocean belt consists of a very wide chain of islands about halfway between the Wastlands and the Westlands, that spans the oceans in a line several thousands of miles long, and is home to several small island nations.

The Westlands(home continents of Xiang, Yamato, and The Dragon Empire): the westlands are the collective term for the continents and islands most renown for the countries of Xiang(homeland of the ogres, and renown for it’s skill at metalsmithing), Yamato(a large island nation, and homeland of the fairies, and has become famous for it’s skill at gunsmithing, and it’s focus on honou), and The Dragon Empire(a violent, and very advanced nation that controls most of the southern westlands, and is aided by powerful magic, and it’s tamed dragons, which are unique in that they possess feathers)

The island of New Oland(where the campaign starts): the island of New Oland is a temperate island in the center of the mid ocean belt. It is shaped a bit like an exaggerated crescent moon(I’ll provide a picture) and has a large peninsula on it’s northern shore(used for growing crops, and home to the tiny village of Verdan), and a large, but treacherous(due to many large shifting sandbars, and well as many hidden pillars of sharp rock) canal on it’s southern face, which feeds into the center bay, which is also home to a volcano called Blackcloud mountain, which continuously emit smoke, causing constant, dark cloud cover in the center of the island, which is contained by the steep mountain range that make up most of the island(all of New Oland’s cities are built against the mountains, except Verdan, which is on the flat northern peninsula).
-Maelstrom(a city on the eastern coast of New Oland): Maelstrom is a small, coastal city, built onto the steep, and often stormy eastern shore of New Oland, and often used as a rest stop on a trip to Stormgate, to which a ferry runs daily. It’s main exports are large seafish and a dark brown clay from the mountains nearby.
-Stormgate(one of the largest cities on Lerath, and the most famous on New Oland): Stormgate is built into the center bay of new Oland(most of the city is actually build out onto the water) and is used as a trading port by many beings, countries, and factions, it usually has warm weather due to the constant cloud cover, and water warmed by the volcano, though it sometimes sees very light snowfall, and the occasional rainstorm. Stormgate gets most of it’s water from extensive aqueducts, made out of either existing streams, or an extensions of them, and many types of fish can be found in the larger canals and near the docks(where the water is usually only about 8-16 feet deep and very slow moving). Stormgate’s main income come from seafood(small seafish and fresh water fish can be found year round, as can many types of octopi and several varieties of squid, the city also has a large number of edible kelp and seaweed, as well as several shelled mollusks, such as geoducks and oysters).
Stormgate was originally founded as a military base by the country of Oland, who built a wall to protect them from any invaders, or hostile natives, though in the end the island turned out to be uninhabited, home only to a breed of oddly docile giant boar(now often used as beasts of burden, or for their very thick, fire resistant fur), a species of giant stinging nettle(now often used to make rope), and a type of giant chicken like beast called a Flamespitter(which are said to taste good cooked, though it’s a rather impractical food source)
(very)Rough picture of New Oland I made;
http://imageshack.us/a/img717/2206/olandnew.png

Races of New Oland:
Humans: humans are one of the most common races in New Oland, alongside only the goblins, and appear in many different builds and skin tones, due to the island’s mixed heritage.

“Lereth” Elves: The elves of Lereth are unique, as they are not native of this world, or even universe, having appeared about 800 years ago when their village was sucked through some sort of dimensional rift, which spat them out about 800 feet above the green isle. This disaster killed most of the population
and the rift has blurred their memories of their homeland, though now, nearly a millennia later, they have managed to become a stable population, and often act as hired diplomats amongst various countries of Lereth, They are also famous for their love of wind instruments, especially bagpipes.
Stats: Lereth elves have the following stats(which replace existing pathfinder high elf abilities where stated)
+2 to either str, dex, or con, -2 to wisdom(Lereth elves are sturdier then elves of other worlds, but due to their short history, aren’t as wise as most)
+2 to Perform(bagpipes), Profession(fisher), Sense Motive, and Survival(these replace the standard elf skill bonuses, and replace the standard elf’s ability to detect hidden doors)
other then that, Lereth elves are standard.

Ogres: The Ogres of Lereth are significantly more intelligent then ogres of other worlds, possessing intelligence of a bright human. Lereth Ogres stand about 10 feet in height, and have muscular , stocky, frames and skin of a dark blue or purple colour, Lereth ogres also lack most hair, though both males and females possess some hair on their heads, and some males have muttonchops.
Stats;
Large Humanoid(giant, orc)
+4 str, -2 dex, +2 con, +2 wis(ogres are strong, tough, and clever, though somewhat slow moving)
Natural armour +1(ogre skin is very tough)
+2 to Appraise, Craft(weapon smithing), Diplomacy, and Profession(blacksmith)(ogres are good merchants, and skilled at smithing)
level adjustment: +1

Goblins: The Goblins of Lereth are generally good nature compared to goblins of other worlds, though they do often have a larcenous side. Goblins are also one of the two most populous races, having a population about equal to humans. Lereth Goblins stand about 3 feet in height, and have grey skin, with a texture like very rough stone, they have humanlike faces, but have nostril slits instead of a nose, small, tusk-like canines on their lower jaw(which protrude even when their jaw is closed), and large bat-like ears.
Lereth goblins are identical to pathfinder goblins statwise.

Fairies: The fairies are a race originally native to the island of Yamato. In their native land, the fairies were mostly organized into clans of either criminals(yakuza) or assassins, and many still are, though the clans have spread, and not all fairies are a member of one. Lereth fairies stand about 3 feet in height, and have humanlike bodies, excluding a pair of flexible, moth-like wings, which while too weak to be used to fly, can soften falls. The wings of a fairies are usually a shade of brown or grey, with spots of stripes or white or black, though some also have a marking that is said to look a lot like a face or a skull.

Fairies have the stats of pathfinder halflings with the following changes;
Fairies lack the fearless and halfling luck traits, instead treating any fall as half of it’s actual distance, due to their wings. This is negated should a fairie have it’s wings cut off an survive(though a fairie’s wings act much like a limb, and having their wings cut off could easily be fatal due to shock and blood loss) they lose this trait.
fairies are also proficient with shortswords and shortbows instead of the normal halfling proficiencies.

Orcs: The orcs of Lereth are a close relative to ogres, though more primitive, in Xiang they often serve as grunt labor.

Lereth orcs have the stats of pathfinder orcs.

Non Playable Races;

Lereth Trolls: Lereth trolls are divided into three species, the goblins, the troll feras(standard troll), and the troll magis(which look a lot like muscular, 12 foot tall goblins, with overlong arms, these ones are also high intelligent, and prone to sometimes centuries long hibernation.)

Darklings: Darklings is a collective term for strange beings and creatures that manifest in areas of population in darkness or during the winter equinox(during which they can appear regardless of population level or light), these are thought to be somehow related to the 14 red winter stars, though little is known about them as they vanish--slowly fading over the course of about 10 seconds--in sunlight, and can appear in many forms, ranging from tiny motes of shadow, weak enough to be harmless to anything stronger an ant, to huge house sized beasts, with unearthly levels of intellect, and strength to match the most ancient of dragons. These beings can be kept at bay by lighting areas, and most cities possess plenty of streetlights to keep the stronger ones from appearing, though some may be encountered in dark alleys or abandoned buildings.

Detailed Description of Stormport:

How Stormport Started: about 500 years ago the nation of Oland sent a small squad of infantry(accompanied by a group of merchants who owned the ship used for transport, and knew the waters nearby) to investigate a recently discovered island(titled “New Oland” upon landing) and sought shelter in the odd bay in the center of the island, after needing to land to make camp the squadron found remains of some sort of ancient primitive village and the remnants of a wall. The storm that forced them ashore kept up for nearly a month, during which they began converting the ancient camp into a fort, and rebuilding the wall, under the assumption that whoever built these structures might be hostile. Years past, and the island, and fort became a trading post, eventually outgrowing it’s original foundations, which prompted the council of merchants(who had obtained the land after Oland officials lost interest, due to lack of resources) to start expanding the city. By this time however the wall had been reinforced enough for it to be impractical to remove it, despite it’s lack of use(after a few years, it was found that whoever built the ancient town and wall was no longer around, though it is likely they simply left for some reason, as no ancient humanoid bones have been found as of yet), and so they began the task of building huge supports into the bay, in order to create artificial land to build the town on.
Many centuries later the town has grown into one of the most populous known cities on Lereth.

Stormport Bazaar: Stormport’s main trading post is it’s huge dockside bazaar, which, along with the docks, is kept open constantly. Almost anything can be bought or sold here, though monsters or substances which could endanger the city, or slaves(do to Stormport wanting to stay neutral with as many nations as possible) are prohibited. Thievery is virtually non existent within the bazaar, as most thieves are either fencing their wares here already, or are smart enough to know that stealing from the bazaar could bring down the anger of powerful organizations or entities(including otherworldly beings such as demons or archons)

Stormport’s Politics: Stormport is controlled by an elected triarchy, labeled the “Minister of Commerce”, “Grand Admiral”, and “High Diplomat”. The currently elected oficials in these posistions are;
Edmund Smith(Minister of Commerce, a human from a family of silver smiths), Xiao Dai Long(and ogre, and Grand Admiral, also the brother of Jian Dai Long[high ranking noble in Xiang], and Stormport’s captain of the guard, he is also much more charismatic then one might expect, due to having grown up amongst nobles) , and Strigga Ethelsdotir(an elf, and the current High Diplomat. Strigga first came to Stormport about 14 years ago as an emissary from the Green Island elves)

Here's the finished char sheet for Slip.
I would also provide a full sheet with manifested form details, but by the time I had linked it some of the features would probably move around. I'll maintain two sheets and post them when relevant for ease-of-keeping.

Slip (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=470130)

Now isn't there something I've almost forgotten? Oh! Right!
Backstory.
Allow me to recite you a tale:
Slip has always liked watching the sky. Each season offers a sight worth seeing and he has spent many nights shivering (which, when he thinks about it, when was the last time he felt cold?) while looking up at the stars above. The heavy ashclouds which hang over Stormgate prevent much amateur stargazing excepting the occasional storm or momentary shift in volcanic activity, yet those lucky nights where you can catch a glimpse of the vast expanse of black and blue are worth waiting for.

At the best of times, on really good nights, those quiet hours where he has managed to scrounge up enough food to quiet his stomach (when was the last time he actually felt satiated?) he might even manage to catch a brief glimpse of either Ire or Nathos and the much tinier red specks that seem to float around the two moons. Then, he feels peace.

And one time, although by now he can't quite recall when (and why is his head sometimes so fuzzy?), as neither Ire nor Nathos were visible in the sky and the only light came from the ever glowing streetlamps and the fourteen red stars above, Slip almost felt at home.

Which, when he thinks about it, is a little strange since he has lived in Stormgate all his life and has no other home, anywhere else.

As far as he remembers, anyway.

It's a little late and I think I am taking some liberties with your world. Correct me if I am wrong, and I will make sure to change it.
As for colour, I guess I call Dark Orchid since it seems to fit.

looks good as well. In addition to the trolls and goblins, she may also be able to find some like minded people in Verdan(since it's a farming community, it is much closer to nature then the terra formed Stormport)

I finished up my character in the Recruitment thread. Might tweak him a bit, but just wondering if I missed the selection process?

Snarin Chong (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=470333)

Brief Background Info
Son of the late Choten Chong, Snarin was granted ownership of his father's Firework's business at a young age. Snarin crumbled due to the work being too stressful and also found he could no longer create the fireworks he so loved due to an incident with some vandals who lit his station ablaze.
His life was almost ended by the incident, but he lived with massive scars and burns all over his face and hands. In order to cope with his new appearance, Snarin made a mask of hide and bone to hide his wounds and left his homeland to a place where no one knew of him or his father.
Snarin Chong wishes to one day create fireworks again like he used to but feels as though there is some presence guiding him towards a different outcome.

Looks fine, and has fun fluff

I gave him some Chinese flavor due to Ogres being Oni-like and Orcs being sort of cousins of them. Though the relation to Fireworks was coincidental and not stereotyping Chinese being all about Fireworks... Though I would expect Orcs to be very keen on them from both an entertainment and militaristic point of view. :smallwink:

open world/sandbox game.
dice are rolled using xdx+mod((bold is just to keep it from rolling instead of showing it's layout))
I'll roll initiative(to make things faster), secret rolls, and rolls made by npcs.

Sandbox essentially means you can do whatever you want within reason. You can try going around killing people of you feel like it, or try to get involved with NPC daily lives and accomplish missions.

Use the formula that Togath posted to do dice rolls and they should come out like this (Example):

[roll0]

Just remember that you can't edit a rolled result and pressing the "Preview Post" button will ruin your rolls for that post.

Aye, the ownership is allowed in Stormport(if the merchant were trading slaves, then the ogre could take action)

Owning slave is okay but not selling them?

Is there a system of slavery? Meaning is it state instituted? Indentured due to a crime? Or can they just take you? Are only foreigners slaves?

Togath
2012-11-20, 01:31 AM
Actually, aye, becoming a slave(if only temporarily) is a common punishment for a crime in Stormport, usually to a victim of the crime, unless the crime either had a vague victim, or is the sort that would make the victim reluctant to have the criminal near them(such as attempted murder or rape)

The escape convict is actually a half ogre on the run from the law, trying to find a way to get near the Grand Admiral so as to challenge him to a duel of Bickerback, the Ogre board game that runs for days, in order to win the title of Emperor.

That's the best I can think of.

Olomara and Slip followed a suspicious looking goblin

Coming out of a road leading to the Bazaar you can also see a rather roughed up looking goblin, wearing rather worn merchant's clothes and carrying a small satchel over his shoulder made out of a scrap of cloth with a few of what appear to be fresh burn marks on it.

He was heading to the docks where the boats are moored. They hide and listen to suspicious talk...and Olomara fumbles around.

now you are caught up.

And if Slip starts screaming loudly and incoherently along the lines of "OH NO HELP, I'M A POOR HELPLESS FLESH DEVOURING MONSTROSITY", then what?

I mean, I'd hate for you to just stand there. Forever. So there must be some neat way of involving Xidor, good sir.

Edit: There we go, that should do it. Just be cool, play along, and no one will get press ganged by sailors. Also you work for Olomara now as a bodyguard. Enjoy!

If he would cry that line AND other peole came he would order them to kill him, or at least telling them to do. FLESH DEVOURING MONSTROSITY are jobs for heros, not him.^^

Also I don't think Xidor heared what they said. I maybe wrong, but I think they are a bit away, unless they shour the whole time.

Fibinachi
2012-12-26, 01:19 PM
He didn't, they're out of range - but I (and Slip) was figuring that the two gentlemen wouldn't want to run the risk of letting him get away, so they'd call him over and then go see the captain.
Or just shank us all.

Alternative, we have this conversation:

"Hi! Don't panic, you look intelligent - see those people behind me with their weapons drawn and the lady there? Can you pretend to be her body guard for, oh, an hour - don't look shocked - we'll pay you in gold once the hour is done and just nod right about now as if I said something funny because if you don't there's a good chance the sailors there are going to kill us all but I'm counting on you - Ha ha ha, we're just having a casual conversation look at us being inconspicuous - so what'll it be?"

Or mention how it'd be easiest to involve you :)

How does revising them to be either an ancient race of goblins or humans, or making them an unkown race sound?, As I've written it so far, Lereth lacks dwarves(closest races would probably be either the elves or ogres)

Unknown race sounds good, as it leave an open lore slot for me if I need to add something in sometime. And while monster lore would give knowledge of what type of undead(or whatever type the creature might be), you could probably determine if something is alive or not with a perception check.

List of Notable Locations;
-Docks Area;
Curved Spear Maritime Supplies:
One of the larger suppliers of maritime supplies on Stormport. The shop itself is comprised of three parts; a two story building(main shop), a small area covered with a tent beside the main building(used to sell fish and other sea food, as well as things such as fishing line, fish-hooks or fishing poles), and a midsized storehouse near the bazaar. The Curved spear is run currently by Ann McLeigh, the daughter of the previous owner, and her cousin Theodore Doffensen who runs the fish-stand adjacent, The two often employ temporary workers to help with moving shipments of supplies to or from ships.

The Old Man By the Ramshackle Ship:
You've met the man, he arrived a while back, and spends move of his time by his odd, and very old, ramshackle ship.

Breir's CheeseMonger: a very old cheese and pickle shop(dating back to around the time the merchants got control of Stormport) named for it's founder(only his first name is still known) Breir. the shop was originally located in the bazaar until the shop was destroyed by a ire about one hundred years ago, soon after it's destruction, the owner at the time(Samuel Dunaldson) rebuilt the shop on the docks, to cater to ships going on long voyages that were in need of foods that could survive a voyage better than bread. The current owner of the shop is Samuel's younger brother Weirton Dunaldson.
Breir was also one of the first to use Ox-Boar as beasts of burden.

-The Bazaar:
a location in itself, the Bazaar has shops and stands selling anything legal in Stormport.

The Bazaar Plaza: a small, slightly raised area in the Bazaar, used or speeches or meetings.

The Golden Griffon Inn: a large inn on the inner side of the bazaar, it’s tavern is often used for minor meetings, and it’s an easy to find location.

I’ll add a few more later, but six seem like a decent start.

You managed to know some minor details(through knowledge: local);
-The creature is called Jiang Shi, or "hopping vampire", it is a type of undead most common to the ogre regions of The Westlands.
It is easy to tell apart from most other undead due to it's tendency to hop, an odd effect of the reaction between rigor-mortis and the energy animating them.

I too need clarification. My understanding is that there were two exits from the room in which we encountered Tribbles. One was up the ladder across the room from us. The other was back the way we came down the tunnel. It's my understanding that Snarin is hauling Tribbles back the way we came, followed by Alamix while I loiter for a moment.

Where did the sound come from?

Aye, I was worried I'd been too vague, the sound came from the ladder(it's vertical.. so more of a shaft than a tunnel I suppose)

At the top of the ladder, is a large grassy field(where the other half of the PCs followed the golems to).
In it(how did my spellcheck not catch "ti"?) right now are Alamix, a mostly dead(destroyed?) golem, and a young girl who appears to have just jumped out of a coffin sized crate.

The solution is obvious.

Invest in the construction of machine men and corner the local market. You clearly have first hand knowledge of the demand.

Else, there might be something at that inn. Edit: Or locate Angharad. Investigate the reason Belzallor was out there. Figure out who that dread knight was - and why it was hunting him. Locate Angharad. Busk.
