View Full Version : Your Ultimate IRL pet?

I was having an argument with my friend the other day about what would make the ultimate fantasy pet in the real world?

He decided on a baby panda that never grew up, and could roll around sandshrew style by curling up into a ball.
http://cdn2.arkive.org/media/CD/CDEFE194-E998-4EA1-86B6-4D8D0607FD8E/Presentation.Large/Giant-panda-curled-in-a-ball-to-retain-heat.jpg

I on the other hand think that a fully grown, totally harmless grizzly bear that is not properly affected by gravity would be the best. It kind of just floats along... and is confused by what's happening permanently. Kind of like this:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k196/DeSwiss/FlyingBear-02.jpg

Let me know which of these guys you think would be the coolest, and also any other ideas you think beat it

A pocket-sized unicorn.

Or anything pocket-sized, really. Smaller = cuter and cooler. Also = less food and less mess.

A pocket-sized giraffe would be excellent.

In an ideal world I would have a pet cheetah (or more likely two) and a large estate they could run around in. Of course, that would also be totally impractical. In fact, I wouldn't say no to any big cat as a pet, provided it was properly domesticated (lol that). Ever since seeing Ring of Bright Water as a child, I've also wanted a pet otter.

If I lived a few hundred years ago, I'd definitely be into falconry and have a few hunting birds. I know that it's still possible, but not exactly common these days. It's more of an occupation than a pastime.

More realistically, but still pretty unlikely to happen, I'd like a pair of ferrets.

I'm happy enough with domestic cats, though.

Yes. though I'd want one a bit bigger, like in that DirecTV commercial. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkB9OT2XVvA) Ever since that came out I've said that if they could do that to a giraffe, I'd pay pretty much any price to get one. It's just too awesome not to.

The interesting thing about cheetahs is that they can be tamed and trained, but humans failed to domesticate them because we can't get them to breed in captivity. It's too bad, we were so close to everyone being able to own a rocket cat.

Since I'm allergic to dogs and my parents are allergic to cats, I'd say one of those intelligent speaking owls that run around from time to time. Like Archimedes. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ADo7tkXE6Q)

I disliked all the games after third too, (other than leaf green and fire red, they were done well) it just felt like they'd run out of ideas and that they were recycling ideas (as well as Pokemon!!!! I mean come on, turtwig is a reptile with a plant on it's back, that gradually turns into a bigger reptile with bigger plants on it's back.... what does THAT remind you of?!!!!!) and making it 3d and flashy, and replacing the cool avatars with hipsters.

Plus black and white don't even feel like Pokemon games in my opinion, they were always about pure gameplay... I felt black and white concentrated too much on graphics and stuff.... How they got sequels I'll never know :smallsigh:

FireRed and LeafGreen count as third gen. I liked Heart Gold and Soul Silver, because having them remade with better graphics was nice, but the main fourth gen was fairly boring both in terms of plot and Pokemon. (Although the ten-minute bit in the Alt World in Platinum was neat, ten minutes of gameplay isn't enough to pull a whole game.) I mostly only played fourth gen as much as I did because I had Pokemon-playing friends when it came out, and Platinum is really the only of the three worth bothering with. I played fifth gen but didn't bother getting to know the Pokemon (I can't even name most of them when faced with pictures), and I'm not planning to get Black 2 or White 2.

I haven't played them. What were they remade for? DS?

Because if so, I felt that's when they started trying too hard. I thought third gen went just far enough with the graphics (with only the one real animation in Emerald), and kept the nostalgic feel the Pokemon games had which made the games so good for me. They were still fairly hard too (not so much ruby and saphire, but FR and LG were as difficult as the originals, if not harder since the original gym leaders and elite four had much higher level Pokemon, as well as extra end game content involved

Yeah, they're for DS. I was originally kind of weirded out by the DS graphics with Diamond/Pearl, but by the time Platinum and HG/SS came out I was used to it. I generally prefer the older graphics, though. I'm not sure whether I prefer Red/Blue over FireRed/LeafGreen, as each have their perks, but I think Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald is my favourite set overall. And second gen was also great, which is why I liked HG/SS.

If an animal walks on fours, cuddles, is cute, is playful & wears a collar, then it seems to me to be a pet. (Though I suppose the collar can be optional.) A human is certainly an animal & can certainly do those things. My girl does 2 of them all the time & 4 of them at various times, which is not enough to make her a pet. I have friends who do all 5 very consistently & often find what they're doing to be cute in the same way that I find a cat playing with a string to be cute. It's entirely separate from romantic notions.

What Thajocoth is talking about is a particular kink some people have. It's fine as long as the women pets he has are there willingly, and there are more than a few that would be if they were otherwise attracted to him physically and/or emotionally.

By the same token, there are people that would happily be someone's toy or someone's slave. As long as noone's getting hurt and everyone's a consenting adult, I don't see a problem.

"Kink" has certain implications of arousal which may or may not apply depending on the individual, but I'd say that's otherwise accurate.

Granted, plenty of other things with the "kinky" label are things I'd describe as "fun" not "arousing", so perhaps I'm wrong about the implication.

This is getting dangerously close to... stuff. If anyone wishes to continue this particular sub-sub-vein of discussion related to terms like "kink" or "arousal", PMs might be better than posts. There's a reason I used the term "romantic notions" instead of "kinks" earlier.

EDIT: I would also like to mention that snakes are pretty cool too. My teacher in 5th/6th grade had a Columbian Red Tail Boa Constrictor she let us play with. It was very friendly & affectionate.

I say the ultimate pet for real life would be the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic's Fluttershy since she can take care of so much other animals both wild and domesticated.
