My group couldn't figure out what kind of action moving a floating disc is last night. We ended up calling it a MEA for sake of moving on, but it seemed odd that it isn't specified. We cross teferenced the SRD and a hardcover PHB with no luck.

Thoughts?

It's a move action.

Direct or Redirect a Spell

Some spells allow you to redirect the effect to new targets or areas after you cast the spell. Redirecting a spell requires a move action and does not provoke attacks of opportunity or require concentration.

Actually its no action in this case. The floating disk follows the caster.

"... unless directed otherwise". So it's a move action to tell it to stop or resume following, I suppose. It's true that you don't need to constantly tell it to move though.

Yes, IF it just follows you around. However, you can also direct its movements within the specified range. Doing so follows the rules I quoted previously.

The OP isn't quite clear on this matter, but it seemed like he was asking about moving it independently.
