I always see this brought up with wizards. I want her to be able to have her little dragon use wands, it seems to have everything possible to do it, but it doesn't have a spell list.

How does she get around that? What are the steps she needs to take to get a wand used in this dragons claws?

...can it take UMD? If so, it's golden. It can hold it, it can speak a command word, everything checks out.

Psychic Reformation or PHB2 skill retraining would let the little guy pick up some cross class ranks in UMD.

Likewise, the wizard pickig up some UMD would give the pseudodragon equivalent ranks. A dip in loremaster can get you UMD as a class skill, changing the max ranks to level +3.

But what about the spell list? I thought you can only use a wand if you know the spell?

The whole point of the Use Magic Device skill is getting around prerequisites for using items. It's literally the only thing it does.

Activating a wand is DC 20 UMD, so you need to get it to 19.

I always loved the mental image I got of my Pseudodragon holding up a wand like a bazooka and blasting bad-guys in one of my old campaigns. Good times.

In case you were wondering how they hold the wand, they have thumbs. Really, you can see in their picture. Dragons have actual hands, anything that isn't tool use, weapon use or writing, they can totally do it.
