I like hex fields much better then squares and want to adopt them for D&D.

Any useful tips?

For example, what is the base for a large creature?
How do I convert areas of effect (a 5ft. spread? 10 ft.? 20 ft.?)?

Thanks

This section (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/adventuring/hexGrid.htm) of the d20srd should answer most of your questions about hex grids in 3.5. In my experience, using hex grids as opposed to squares makes things flow a lot smoother.

I like hexes for outdoors, but indoors and in dungeons it becomes problematic, in my opinion. I use both.
