So, I'm statting up a few different characters and was hoping for some advice. The idea behind them is to have each of them represent a classic rock song, and see how long it takes the DM to get it (yeah, it's strange, but w/e). Anyway, I was hoping for a) suggestions for songs, and b) build advice.

What I've got so far:

Jukebox Hero- Bard with Perform (Guitar) maxed. Still need a way to put stars in his eyes.

Pinball Wizard- Blind wizard focused on CC, specifically CC that moves opponents.

Eye of the Tiger- This one's a stretch, but I'm thinking weretiger or shifter (or both) with barbarian/frenzied berserker levels (because, you know. It's the thrill of the fight.)

Devil Went Down to Georgia- This one's similar to Jukebox Hero, but it'd probably be a bard with some Paladin or Ranger thrown in. It's also not exactly rock, but whatever.

Black Magic Woman- This one's easy; just play a Witch (PF class) with a "use 'em and lose 'em" attitude.

Bohemian Rhapsody/Renegade/I Shot the Sheriff- 3 for the price of 1. Probably a Gunslinger/Rogue that, yes, shot the sheriff. Make him Italian, take the Mysterious Stranger archetype.

TNT- Alchemist with a bit of an attitude.

Ironman- This is just shooting fish in a barrel.

I don't have any tips for this idea, but I want to express how awesome I think this is. Where's the rock and roll smiley on this thing, or the like button?

Seriously, several of those are amongst my favorite songs ever. Rock on, dude.

Pinball Wizard- Blind wizard focused on CC, specifically CC that moves opponents.Shouldn't that be 'blind, deaf and dumb wizard?' :smalltongue:

just some thoughts

Immigrant song - Barbarian. Just Barbarian. The whole song is Barbarian.

Dead or Alive - Ranger with favored enemy human

Master of Puppets - Enchantment/Necro wizard

God's Gonna Cut You Down - Cleric with an attitude problem

Ziggy Stardust - bard with a few arachnid cohorts?

There are several gritty characters in aqualung, but I can't quite figure out their stats.

Voodoo child - Defintely a tier one caster with a level of monk thrown in. Who else could chop a mountain down with their hand and make an island out of the pieces?

Foxy lady - succubus or lycanthrope?

We Are the Champions - anything out of complete champion, of course.

All Along the Watchtower- Dvati Jester/Rogues. "There must be some kind of way out of here," said the Joker to the Thief.

Englishman in New York - paladin or LG monk.

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - rogue or assassin.

Sultans of Swing - party made of multiclass bards, at least middle age :smalltongue: .

Born to be Wild - barbarian is the obvious choice, but ranger also fits.

I guess Ocular Spell might do the trick. I'm not sure, how many bard spells would qualify for it, but it's there. You can widen the selection by taking Archmage for Arcane Reach (preferably to advance Sublime Chord for more spells). Give him a Lyre of Building and you have two in one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsdj9NRzqC4).

Aside from that:
Fire of Unknown Origin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-Z7qcrkbuQ) might not be a well known piece, but it's very easy to build. It's a fire-based blaster (Seering Spell and all the otehr classic metamagic boosters) with the skill trick from Cityscape, that obscures, where the spell was cast from.

The Reaper (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClQcUyhoxTg) is equaly obvious and it's a solid classic. Build a Dread Necromancer lich with a scythe and you're done. Maybe have an undead mount with a cowbell to drive the point home.

Sharp Dressed Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn2-b_opVTo) is simple enough. Pump your Cha sky-high and always put attention to your clothing.

I have the lamest/greatest yet:

Kung Fu Fighting - Do I really need to say it? Anyways, if you don't want Monk, you can always go Unarmed Swordsage!

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Warlock, take the Invocations that allow for flight and deck yourself out with jewelry.

Hmmm.

"Baba O'Riley": A Vow of Peace ("I don't need to fight/To prove I'm right") Fist of the Forest ("Out here in the fields/I fight for my meals") Horizon Walker ("Sally, take my hand/We'll travel south cross land"). Maybe a bit of a stretch.

"You Don't Mess Around With Jim": Switch-hitter ranger (favored enemy: hustlers and favored terrain: pool halls)

"Whisky in the Jar": Buccaneer gunslinger. (He even takes delight in gets bonuses from the juice o' the barley!)

"O Caritas" Sorcerer with Eschew Material Components and Corrupt Arcana.

Through a slightly different lens, Keith Richards is clearly a lich.

Carry On, Wayward Son - Bard, with a one-level dip in Master of Masks. Chant of the Long Road and (eventually) Words of Creation.

Desperado - Fallen Paladin or Fallen Samurai/Ronin.

Over the Hills and Far Away - Really works for any rogue-ish character, but Rogue or Bard to Horizon Walker is probably best. Max Bluff and Listen check.

Sympathy for the Devil - Warlock or Malconvoker.

Magic Man - Beguiler.

Welcome to the Jungle - Multiclass Druid/Rogue

Thunderstruck - Oracle of Wind

Another one Bites the Dust - Gunslinger

On a related note, The Townshend - A PF Bard with ranks in Perform (Guitar), the Rough and Ready trait, and Summon Instrument memorized. KABONG!

The Power of Love - Apostle of Peace?

Ghostbusters Theme - Ranger / Cleric / PrCs (including Sacred Exorcist), with Favored Enemy: Undead and the Sun Domain

Mighty Wings - Raptoran Skypledged Gish?

I Ran (So Far Away) - Chuck the Ruby Knight Windicator or any other build optimized for speed.

Hot Blooded - Sorcerer (cheesy Kobold tricks as necessary) who uses that Burning Blood spell (maybe even Persisted?) from Draconomicon.

The Safety Dance - Bard with Snowflake Wardance and any other tricks that key off Perform (Dance) ... and of course, Otto's Irresistible Dance.

We Built This City - ok, someone who actually has access to The Stronghold Builder's Guide is going to have to cover this one for me.

Down Under - Deepwarden ... maybe vegemite can be re-fluffed out of some kind of self-poisoning ability?

Maneater - plenty of possibilities, most of them monstrous.

Jump - the Jumplomancer, of course.

Everybody Wants To Rule The World - Pun-Pun? Or just a Tippyverse-technique Wizard?

Huh ... how did a Dread Pirate qualify for Dry Lich? :smallcool:

Nah, man, the song is Don't Fear the Reaper. Obviously a Death Delver, or a Cleric with the Creation and Repose domains.:smallwink:

Following the BOC vein, Veteran of the Psychic Wars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIE0wTFg364) would obviously be a Psion, focused on Metacreativity, Clairsentience and Telepathy. I really want to play this one, actually.

War Pigs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZCyOWLrRTE) would be an Orc Aristocrat with the leadership feat and a taste for conflict.

Sweet Dreams (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zanZFMqG75o) would be a specialist Diviner with max ranks in the Lucid Dreaming skill.

Broadsword (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wu-RFt-3zg8) would be a straight classed Fighter with a longsword, who is completely unoptimized but still goes out fearlessly to defend his homeland. He would also have a Stone of Good Luck in the shape of a gold cross.

The Necromancer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NHB684BBRc) would be, well, take a wild guess.:smallamused:

Peace of Mind, by Boston, could be some sort of Telepath Psion focusing on debuffing/cc.

Okay Weasel, what about Harvester of Eyes and Black Blade?
I figure some aberration type thing, for the first one, but I've never read Elric, so I couldn't say for the second.

... fine, but the cowbell stays in. :smalltongue:

Invisible Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKdxd718WXg) would be all about optimizing stealth. Most likely a Rogue with Hide, Move Silently and Bluff (for the epic uses - remember to have no more then 12 Int) optimised beyond limits. Pick items giving you Invisibility, Nondetection and whatever other protection against divinations you can find.

Twisted Sister - The beast - Polypmorph/Shapechange with a lot of move silently.

Iron Maiden - The trooper - Low-lvl. barbarian, with luck on the hit dice, and endurance-die hard.

Living after midnight - Elf that wants his 4 extra hours/day, dammit!

The Wall - Warforged Juggernaut

Malimar
2012-11-28, 08:18 PM
I've got one, but it involves less character building and more "buy lots of Nolzur's Marvelous Pigments; make lots of black objects". "Paint It, Black".

Oh, or you could go with a tiefling caster or telepath psion who specializes in the suggestion/charm/dominate line. "Sympathy for the Devil"

The cowbell goes without saying.

Okay Weasel, what about Harvester of Eyes and Black Blade?

Harvester would be an Ozodrin (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153536) all the way. Although if monsters are acceptable, and Ocularon(FF) would be perfect.
And for Black Blade, a Drow Sorcerer/Paladin of Chaos gish with a strength and con of 8 who uses drugs to pump his abilities up to reasonable levels. He would also have an intelligent soul-stealing greatsword that gives him temporary bonuses each time he kills something with it.

Heh, I was thinking of something similar ... but could we go for Seer Psion instead of Diviner Wizard?
Fine with me, I like psions. Although I don't see why it would fit the song any better.

Uh ... hmmmm ... Monk??
You should be more specific. It's obviously a gnome Monk.:smallwink:

I've always thought the song had a surrealist quality. Seems to hint at psionics flavor more.
