All of the information you need is there. All poisons work the same.
What other information would you need? (Dungeon Master's Guide, page 296).

First, you make an initial fortitude save when exposed to the poison. If this save succeeds, you take no damage. If you fail you take the initial damage (1d6 constitution in this case). 1 minute later, you have to make a second fortitude save for the secondary damage. Fail that one, and take the secondary damage (in this case, death).

Would a character know he is under the effects of poison? Hence buff himself before making the second save? Do you have to make the second save even if you saved the first one?

from the SRD:
Poison

When a character takes damage from an attack with a poisoned weapon, touches an item smeared with contact poison, consumes poisoned food or drink, or is otherwise poisoned, he must make a Fortitude saving throw. If he fails, he takes the poison’s initial damage (usually ability damage). Even if he succeeds, he typically faces more damage 1 minute later, which he can also avoid with a successful Fortitude saving throw. The Fortitude save DC against a creature’s natural poison attack is equal to 10 + ½ poisoning creature’s racial HD + poisoning creature’s Con modifier (the exact DC is given in the creature’s descriptive text).
