Setting Information
History and MythologyLegends say that in the time before humankind, the world was ruled by the Old Gods. It is said that these primal, chaotic beings gave shape to the lands of Kothia through arbitrary violence and savagery. Over the aeons, the Old Gods turned their wrath even upon each other, their bones crashing down to earth and their blood spilling forth in great rivers flowing into what would become the world's endless oceans. But even in their madness they were not without all sense of self preservation, and over the aeons the constant warfare gave way to an uneasy alliance.

Eventually, humans arose upon the continent, and began building the beginnings of civilization by shaping the stones of the earth and taming the beasts that had long run wild across it. In order to retain control over their world, the Old Gods descended to the rulers of the burgeoning kingdom of Awan. They sealed a covenant with these lords of men, sharing the secrets that would serve as the beginnings of magic, and leading them to the remains of one of their fallen brethren. Though they did not divulge the true nature of the bones, they taught their human allies to extract them and forge them into tools and weapons. This was the first human discovery of iron, and allowed the dynasty of the Old Gods favored rulers, the old Pharaohs of Awan, to conquer far and wide, spreading their empire across the continent and subjecting all mankind to the capricious whims of their timeless benefactors.

For centuries the people of Kothia suffered under the yoke of the old Pharaohs, restricted from the means to resist the Awanian iron and magical lore, and bound in fearful reverence to the Old Gods. But in the end, salvation came. From beyond the stars came new Gods, with power to rival that of the Old Ones, and even greater knowledge. They brought to the oppressed not only the secrets of iron and its origins, but the way it could be used to forge steel, and of other metals and precious stones that lay in the corpses of Old Gods swallowed by the bowels of the earth. To those of suitable aptitude, they taught more refined secrets of magic, including the first healing staves. Finally they conferred upon the eleven greatest heroes in their army weapons of their own making whose phenomenal power could strike down even the Old Gods, should they take the field to preserve the rule of their human allies. Armed by divine hands, the heroes and their armies crushed their Awanian oppressors. The last of the old Pharaohs was defeated and throughout the continent the old ways were driven out. The new deities came to be revered as the only True Gods throughout most of Kothia, and the last followers of the Old Gods retreated into the dark forests of Swyn.

The land, now free of the old Pharaohs' rule, was divided between the two siblings who stood as the greatest of the eleven heroes. The great Sage Eliza founded the Kingdom of Bierland dedicated to the development and sharing of knowledge, which she saw as the greatest gift the Gods had granted to humanity. She was joined by her husband Dylan the peerless swordsman, and her friend Theia the mighty Druidess. Her brother, the stalwart knight Aldon, for whom the victory of mankind over the chaotic reign of the Old Gods was a demonstration of the virtue of discipline, formed the militant Empire of Forden with the backing of the remaining seven heroes.

The lands of Awan remained under Fordic rule for 151 years. Some of the Awanian people cursed the names of the new Gods that had hoisted them by their own petard, while others cried out to the heavens, pleading for the Gods to bring them the salvation that had been granted to the rest of Kothia. Eventually, the prayers of the latter were answered in a young man by the name of Menes who appeared in Absu, wielding weapons of extraordinary power and claiming not only the blessing, but the kinship of the Gods. Doubts of his claim were raised, but were forcibly silenced through the youth's sheer power and the throngs of fanatical followers who rallied behind him as one who could break Forden's hold on their homeland. Menes retook the former capitol at Atum and was anointed Pharaoh of a newly restored Kingdom of Awan by his followers. Forden's armies were sent in to put down the rebellion, but after years of warfare were repelled, with two divine weapons - the titanic bow Sargon and the holy tome of fire Atar - falling into Awanian hands along with their corresponding crests in the process. This decisive conflict established the uneasy peace that has lasted for the past three hundred years. Save for intermittent border conflict producing the occasional minute shift of the border between Forden and Awan, the continent has for the most part enjoyed a time of peace and prosperity and little change in the balance of power.

If the claims of the Awanian government are to be believed, power on one side of the equation has not changed at all. The Pharaoh of Awan is said to be the same Menes that rose to power centuries ago. The Pharaoh is revered as a living God within his kingdom, though even among the people of Awan many believe that the name of Menes is simply passed down through the generations as a means of preserving the dynasty and reinforcing the divinity of the new Pharaohs.

As is so often the case, the line between history and myth is blurred and uncertain.

The Lands of Kothia

The Kingdom of Bierland
The Kingdom of Bierland is a constitutional monarchy under the leadership of the Sage King Caleb and a council of elected representatives. Bierland lacks the military might of Awan or Forden, but its magical universities are renowned the world over. These universities cater not only to the populace of Bierland itself, but to many foreign students of magic as well. All branches of magic are studied freely in Bierland, and though Anima is easily the most prominent discipline, this results in Dark magic being much more common than in the other nations. The percentage of martial units in their armed forces is predictably smaller than in other nations. Among these troops archers are relatively uncommon as the ranged needs are met by mages, and flyers almost non-existant, as no species of winged steed is native to Bierland.

The Empire of Forden
Forden is the greatest military power on the continent. The country is ruled by Empress Ajae the Hearteater, with five noble families and the Church of the True Gods also holding significant political and military power. Wyverns are native to the mountains of Forden, and Wyvern Knights spearhead the vast Fordic military. The martial forces of Forden's army also include significant cavalry and infantry forces. Apart from students of sufficient privilege to be schooled in Bierland, magic in Forden is only studied in a military capacity. Anima is the predominant form of magic due to its simplicity, but Light, and to a lesser extent Dark magic are also used by specialized troops.

The Kingdom of Awan
Awan is an absolute monarchy ruled over by Pharaoh Menes on basis of divine right with the assertion of Menes' divinity and immortality pervasive and far reaching in Awanian customs. The aristocracy consists of three clans whose lineages are strongly associated with that of the Pharaoh. To preserve their relation to the house of the Menes, it is common for the clans to send young women from their ranks to the house of the Pharaoh to serve as consorts to the monarch, and for the offspring of such unions to be given positions of power within the clan. This tradition has in turn given rise to the custom of adult members of Awan's ruling class addressing one another as "brother" or "sister" on the basis of metaphorical, and in many cases literal, familial ties to one another with the Pharaoh as a father figure to all of them.

Awan is largely desert, save for the fertile areas along the banks of rivers, and grasslands near the border with Forden which are frequently contested. The remainder of the country is sparsely populated, with only a small number of permanent settlements near oases and mines, and nomadic tribes of pegasus riders.

The military forces of Awan are well suited for combat in their native desert lands. The army primarily utilizes light infantry, magic, and an aerial force of pegasus knights to fight its battles, with Cavaliers and Armor Knights much less common. Light magic is much more common among magic users than in other nations, while Dark users are almost nonexistent.

The Forest of Swyn
The dark forest of Swyn is a wilderness, whose only human inhabitants are various tribal societies. Some of these tribes still worship the Old Gods, and the people of Swyn are largely regarded as barbarians by the remainder of the continent. Magic is practiced only by religious leaders, and is poorly understood. Light magic is not practiced at all.

Many of the woods necessary in stave making come from Swyn, which has led to logging teams being sent into the forest, the largest effort coming from Forden.

The Pantheon of the True Gods
There are 11 Gods toward which the Church of the True Gods focuses its worship.

Aesir, King of the Gods
"The nature of a sword, like the nature of a man, is determined by its deeds. This sword then, shall bear my name, for in thy noble hand it shall accomplish deeds as those of my own making."
Portfolio: Warfare, the Heavens, Honor
Aesir, lord of the heavens, led the True Gods when they descended before the 11 Heroes. He is the patron deity the heroic knight Aldon upon whom he bestowed the Sword Aesir.

Adana, Queen of the Gods
"The mind may wield the blade to cut the ties that bind you as easily as the arm. Open yourself to knowledge, and become greater than your mortal shell - as eternal and far reaching as the wind."
Portfolio: Knowledge, Wisdom, Magic
Adana rules the Gods alongside her husband Aesir. She is the patron deity of the Sage Eliza, and bestowed upon her the Wind tome Folsir, and entrusted unto humanity many secrets of magical understanding. While largely a matter of scriptural interpretation, she is generally regarded as equal or even greater than her husband by the people of Bierland, but second to him by the people of Forden.

Hetan, the Flame of Change
"The Old Ones have bound you in two chains, their power, and their will to dominate. To undo the work of their forges you shall require two flames. The first is the power to resist your enemies, which we now offer unto you. With it you must kindle the second fire within your own hearts."
Portfolio: Fire, Smiths, Engineering, Mischief
Eldest son of Aesir and Adana, Hetan is the smith of the Gods. It was he that gave shape to the weapons of the eleven heroes before the Gods blessed their own holy weapons individually. He taught mankind the art of making steel, as well as many applications for Adana's magical secrets which led to the making of the first staves. He is the patron deity of the hero Meynen, who recieved from him the sacred flame Atar.

Gautra, Goddess of Order
"The age the Old Ones and their favorites is at its end. From the ruins you shall soon raise a new order, and as the progenitors of that order, you shall bear the responsibility of ensuring just rule."
Portfolio: Law, Strategy, Family
Eldest daughter of Aesir and Adana. Patron deity of the great Wyvern Knight Sonnun, to whom she conferred the mighty lance Vingnir.

Thunor, the Thunderous
"Your age of silent suffering is at its end, may your cries of battle and victory ring out across this land."
Portfolio: Thunder, Rage, Joy
Son of Aesir and Adana. Patron deity of High Priest Donar the Thunderous, who was given the tome of Mothi.

Grall, the God of Death
"That chaos which cannot be quelled, this axe shall tame. Those shackles which cannot be escaped, this axe shall break."
Portfolio: Death, Strength
Son of Aesir and Adana. Patron deity of the Berserker Hednar, to whom he bestowed the axe of death Niflhel.

Aegil, the Hunter
"Your hour has now come. Fate is with you, and your hunt shall be successful."
Portfolio: Hunters, Fate
Son of Aesir and Adana. Patron deity of the Hunter Nihmroden, who recieved the titanic bow Sargon.

Ara, Lady of the Day
"Stand proud and tall, face your enemy by the light of day, and as one you shall repel the tide of persecution."
Portfolio: Light, Openness, Society
Youngest Daughter of Aesir and Adana. Patron deity of High Priest Alfar who received Erentil, the tome of morning's light.

Ragn, Lord of the Night
"Yet so too must you guard your hearts, and swear them only to the truly worthy. Take care that your efforts to turn aside one tide do not see you swept away by another."
Portfolio: Darkness, Secrets, Intimacy
Twin brother of Ara and youngest son of Aesir and Adana. Patron deity of the Druidess Theia who received the Dark tome Muspell. Reverence for Ragn tends to go in and out of favor due to debate over what some see as anti-authority sentiments in his teachings.

Fulla, Goddess of Wealth
"By our hands, you shall come to great riches."
Portfollio: Riches, Bounty, Merchants
Daughter of Gautra and Aegil. Patron deity of the Shining Knight Meili, who received the gift of the Golden Lance Volgir

Falni, the Artist
"But know that true riches come from within. It is in your works and not your possessions that you shall be remembered. Now go, and be the muse for the bards of brighter days to come."
Portfolio: Art, Poetry, Music, Swordplay
Daughter of Ara and Ragn. Patron deity of Dylan the Master Swordsman, who received the Dancing Blade Sinmara.

The religion of Awan also reveres a twelfth god,

Anu-Ra, the Lifegiver
"From this place, Absu the fount of all life do I arise, new scion of the new Gods, and I shall restore life unto this fallen nation."
Portfolio: Life, the Afterlife
Anu-Ra is a somewhat dualistic entity, usually either referred to simply as Anu, when referring to his relationship with the soul and life force of an individual, or as Ra when describing him in his role as the god of the life of all humankind. Pharaoh Menes is regarded as an earthly avatar of Anu-Ra.

Other Things I've Said About the Setting

I pictured Forden's colors almost exactly as in Torvan's sprite. Somewhat reserved blues and greys, with the greys brightening to silver in cases of extreme fanciness.

Awan by contrast, is a bit gaudy. Expect a lot of gold coloration.

Bierland I'm not as sure of yet.

As for knightly orders, Forden's founder Aldon was a very knightly sort of fellow, and there are five other noble families with significant political power, so Empress Ajae would have one such group which she commands directly with less of the political hoops to jump through, and any or all of the noble houses might have established such groups as well. They would be quite small in number relative to the Fordic military as a whole though.

Also I'm going to say that the Awanian Pharaoh's royal guard is a knightly order of sorts hand picked from the ranks of their military at large.
The Church doctrine doesn't have much to say on it. I'm going to say that there's one instance in the myths of Donar chastising a soldier who "attacked a man for who he loved" and of Theia comforting the victim, which is occasionally interpreted as espousing a permissive view on homosexuality, but more regularly is seen as a tale of a cuckold taking private vengeance too far. Also, the Church was founded by two guys who were regarded as inseparable and who despite their status as living legends never married or had children. Make of that what you will.
Regarding your lore questions, there are five noble houses in Forden because Donar and Alfar founded the Church. Their tomes are passed down through its leadership as relics. The houses of Meynen and Nihmroden have retained their noble status, though they're somewhat dishonored and have less political clout as a result of the loss of their holy weapons.

The game will start as soon as the started team reports in and has sprites. You'll gain a mechanic to bring back fallen characters after around chapter 3 or 4, at which point difficulty will start ramping up. Don't get killed before then, or if you do come up with a good IC reason why everyone else should be carrying around your rotting corpse.

Backstory

Lucy grew up in a small village on the border of Awan. She grew up on stories of wise-cracking young men, defeating villainous evil-doers and gaining the Noble's daughter hand in marriage. She decided that's what she wanted to be when she grew up. And so studied the sword.

When she was seventeen she had her chance. A villainous banker was trying to buy up the town, however they didn't expect Lucy the Hero to stop them. With puns such as "I bet you didn't think a loan swordswomen was a match for you." and "Howse those stab wounds treating you." Lucy quickly defeated the banker. Acting swiftly she went down on one knee and pledged her eternal love to the mayor's daughter.

But strangely she was arrested instead of wedded. Eventually she broke out, and left for a heroes journey is often a solo one.

Personality

Lucy is mischievous, optimistic, and adventurous. She is often smiling, or laughing. She's a "romantic" and will attempt to pick up any girls in the party. In conversation she often thinks before speaking, trying to put as many puns as she can in a sentence.

Personality

The Princess Stella worships only two things with equal, and overwhelming zeal; the True Gods, and herself. She has a very high opinion of her talents and especially her looks, and believes that holds true for everyone else around her, including her faceless, nameless, long-suffering retainers.

As an extension of that, she looks down on the people of Awan, thinking them benighted cultists who reject the light of the True Faith, and heretics who worships the vanquished Old Gods. Though she favours her fellows in the faith of the True Gods, her arrogance and ego may still come across as grating even to them.

That said, she is not without her soft spots, and has one in particular for Major Torvan, whom she sees as a surrogate father figure.

Background
The youngest princess of the Imperial Family of Forden, Stella was sent by the Empress to receive a clerical education from the Church of the True Gods, early on in her life. Though she demonstrated a talent for handling the sacred arts of divine healing, the young Princess never really learned the humility as the Empress hoped, and if anything made her even more aware and proud of her high station in life.

It was during her stint as a Sister of the Church, that Stella first met Major Torvan, whom she quickly took to as a surrogate father figure in her search for the warmth she had never felt from her parent. This soft spot for the Major remains to this day, long after the Princess had left her clerical stint behind and returned to royal life once more. Nevertheless, the stint has done her some good at least, she remains well-versed in the healing arts to this day.

I'm seeing his tribe as the one closest to the Swyn/Forden border, so they are mostly responsible for the lumber trade, or have set out to establish such things. A barter system or something to that effect.

For him personally, he's a bit used to the Forden landscape, having traveled back and forth over the border on negotiation meetings and stuff, so he's picked up a bit of a Forden accent, as well as a vocabulary, for which he received the nickname. It's usually used in jest.

(I was going to make him a Corporal or a Brigadier, but I figure Illven gets more puns this way :smallwink:)

Backstory:
Born in Forden to a priest of the Church of the True Gods and a mother with noble relations, Torvan had a priviliged childhood. His mother raised horses, and taught him to do the same while he was young. His father taught him religion and discipline. At a young age, he was sent to train in the Fordic military. His training with horses allowed him to quickly rise through the ranks to a position as a commander in the Fordic army. One day during a border skirmish, an enemy spear found its way through his armor, wounding him deeply. Healers said that he likely wouldn't fight again, and it was only through his sheer force of will that he was able to stand. Once he recovered, he made his intentions to fight known. This time, he told himself that he would wear better armor. He trained himself to work with the added weight of his armor and once again took to the battlefield.

Years later, Torvan has become one of the well-known knights of the Fordic army. He never made himself known through his words, but people remembered his skill and talent with a lance, and his remarkable agility while wearing heavy armor.

He once served as the personal guard for the Princess, who has since come to see him as a father figure.

Personality:
Torvan is a very religious man, and a firm believer that actions speak louder than words. Never a talkative man, his knights have learned to follow his orders from non-verbal cues. He thinks little of his position, believing that it is his duty to serve in the Fordic army.

Background
Raised in a woody Bierland province, a fire lit under the feet of the Ludvig the day he was chosen by the shaman of the True Gods. His cloistered tutelage in the magic halls of the local abbey infused the youth with a fiery passion for promulgation of the True Faith and Bierland's Enlightenment. Permitted to marry, the young friar wooed the village belle, Tabitha, and convinced her to accompany him on his first expedition to Swyn as a naturalist. When the couple and their babe arrived in Swyn, the mostly Forden company at base camp drove the Bierland lovers to further isolation and codependency. In two years, their firstborn had grown into a toddler and Tabitha was again with child. Preoccupied with the continuing excavation and catalog of the Forden lumber camp, Ludvig was increasingly absent and distraught. He shared tales of a large stone tomb uncovered by the workers; assuaged his fears by confiding with Tabitha the claustrophobic and gnawing dimensions of the temple's vestibule. Though Tabitha had ceased to dream altogether, Ludvig began to sweat and thrash in his sleep, alarming her with his tearful sobs and pleas to 'raise the flute and drums'.

As the latest summer approached, and Tabitha began to go into labor, her ordinarily faithful husband was nowhere to be found. She delivered the couple's deformed, stillborn daughter into the waiting arms of a nameless Forden midwife and, two days after her husband's abandonment, fled the ravenous woods by galley. The rest of the foresting camp never found Ludvig; but an investigation of the unearthed tomb revealed his discovery of the temple's foyer and crematorium. Among the ash and ragged bundles of bone glyphs there lay a fresh offering: Ludvig's own flesh and blood, burnt to death within a brazen altar.
Personality
Quiet and reflective. Ludvig is the picture of patience in the midst of carnage. The gentle sexagenarian is caring and dutiful. By the account of several Bierland magistrates, Ludvig is a volunteer officer of the law and respectful hermit. The altruistic mercenary-mage has only just recently stirred from a twenty year fugue and begun traveling again. The anonymous retainer waits close at hand on the anointed emissary of the True Gods and heir apparent of Forden, usually just beyond notice.

Backstory:
It takes many things to be a knight, a stalwart heart, steady arm, and an unwavering loyalty to your cause. Yet to be considered to be amongst the elite knights of the houses of Forden one must also have a background. Connections and renown gain one access into the beginning of knighthood, something which average peasant Walter did not possess. He was simply the son of a family of blacksmiths, nothing more and nothing less. His skills were too canny and personality a little on the meek side, which also deterred his chances of knighthood. It was suggested by those he talked to simply join the army if he wanted to fight, why waste time trying to be a knight when there were easier alternatives?

Walter considered that suggestion, but instead of enlisting in the army he gathered up some armor, a “trusty” steed and set off on a journey. He was driven by the romantic idea of a wandering knight, smiting evil and protecting those in need. After all, he could just act like a knight and no one would know the difference.

Personality:
Walter has two distinct sets of mind, the first being his “knightly” persona and the second his more reserved self. Usually he doesn’t have much of a presence when wandering into new towns and such, he keeps his head down and doesn’t say much. Yet once there is a sign of trouble that meek personality transforms into a hammy force of justice. With an unexpected rush of energy Walter will dive fearlessly into any situation if it calls for a knight. A normally quiet voice booms with loud taunts and it beckons challengers. Once his knightly “duties” end however, Walter is back to his regular self; which people often assume is him being humble. Occasionally uses mundane items for dramatic effects.

Appearance:
Tall in height with an average build, Walter carries standard issue armor and weaponry. The only difference is his left shoulder pad is smaller and painted black. His horse Forwin is colored a pleasant brown.

Background on the Fallen Firmament Tribe

“In the first dawn of the spirits there was much bloodshed amongst them. Many fell down upon the Mother’s embrace, but still there was much violence. Fearing for her other children, the Mother put her first wounded children to sleep so that peace may come again. There they began to dream and from these dreams the first thought in humans came.

Now they dig up the sleeping children and use their bodies for war. They do not understand that every time they use the sleeping flesh and bone that they risk the children waking up and the true violent cycle starting again.”- A partial explanation on the tribe’s name.

Though many of the ‘civil’ nations consider the tribes of the Swyn Forest to be nothing more than savages this is not entirely true. In addition to the cannibals and umbral spinners that strike terror to children during bedtime stories there are also tribes that lead relatively peaceful existences.

Such a tribe is the Fallen Firmament tribe that dwells in large tree houses in the valley created by three gently sloping hills. There they cultivate the large trees upon which they live for fruit and honey, only occasionally supplementing this plentiful diet with meat from a large animal caught on the earth.

In addition to providing them with food and shelter, it also keeps the tribe safe from raids: few know about them and those who would wish ill of them think twice about scaling their trees as a flurry of arrows and javelins fall down upon them.

As such day to day life is relatively risk free. This has led to the development of complex rituals and behaviours many of which involve singing, (body) painting and… hallucinogenic substances ranging from fermented fruit and nectar to mild toxins from various fungi and invertebrates. The practice of these rituals as well as the overall management of the settlement is overseen by the eldest woman known simply as the Mother. The following beliefs, behaviours and rules are among the most prominent in the tribe.

[1]One must never tell an outsider of the tribes location, less this outsider has saved a tribe member or can otherwise be trusted. A simple, yet very effective, self defence mechanism that keeps raiders at by.

[2]Any metal to be used for any purpose must first be purified as to not awaken the children from which it was mined. To injure or kill someone with a ‘sleeping’ blade is considered the gravest of sins by the tribe. So big is this fear that members of the tribe can instantly tell if a piece of ore is purified or not.

[3]So long as one does not harm another person, one can take whatever they wish. One must not be greedy though. There is no point in greed since you cannot take things with you once you return to the Mother. The Fallen Tribe Firmament has a very loose concept of ownership and this may result in them being considered thieves outside their tribe.

Lastly a word on religion and its practices. The Fallen Firmament worship nature in all its beauty and gore and from cradle to coffin. Nearly every aspect is represented by a spirit (in power these are as powerful as deities) and all bar one are either represented by animals or plants. In all likelihood these are alternative representations of the old gods, but the Fallen Firmament care little for other religions and intereprentations. The most revered are the following:

Buou, the pale owl, Portfolio: Dreams, Omens, Night Sky. “Now here comes Buou slumber eternal” The Pale Owl is to be feared as a gaze from its eyes is enough to place someone in eternal slumber. However, when such individuals sleep talk in their dreams it is said that their words are of things yet to come. As such this is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing for the information it provides and a curse for ultimate demise of the sleeping individual from thirst and starvation.

Vaesna, the timeless butterfly, Portfolio: Time, Transformation, Eternity. “The body is but a chrysalis in which Vaesna dwells.” The Timeless Butterfly at its essence represents change be it good or ill. For example when a butterfly alights upon an elderly person it is believed that the time of this person in this world is almost up, however, should the same happen to woman it is believed that she will soon be with child.

Moro, the green wolf, Portfolio: Hunting, Blood, Bonds. “Within Moro flows the blood of all”. Moro represents the hunt, the fight, the will to live, and the fact that every living being is connected to each other either by eating, kinship or simply distance. Moro, however, is not death for nothing dies from his actions. It is merely passed along.

Solin, the faithful fish, Portfolio: Family, Sacrifice, Procreation. “May your loins bring forth many children as Solin within the river does”. [This literally means “Breed like a fish”, aka have lots of children]. Having a family requires many sacrifices but the rewards are (perhaps) worth it. (Alternatively it can simply be a salmon run: put a lot of effort into something just to get screwed over and die…)

Kaerna Swyn, The land of trees, Portfolio: ‘Everything’. “A tree is a world”. To swear upon the land that raised you is the ultimate oath that someone from the Fallen Firmament can take. This is not something to be taken lightly as they believe that failure to fulfil such an oath will result in the person being prohibited from returning to the Mother upon their final breath.

Kieyn, the leaf clad deer, Portfolio: Seasons, Renewal, Aging. "The seasons change by Kieyn's leaps and bounds." The seasons will change, nothing is left untouched by the touch of time. The body will age, melt and vanish just as the land will change colours. In may respects Kieyn is similar to Vaesna, however, Kieyn represents change across the landscape rather than on a personal level which is the realm of Vaesna.

The Hunter, the ender of worlds, Portfolio: Humankind, True Death, Destruction. “Fear nothing, but the Hunter for his blade the true ending is.” Of all the creatures that the Mother brought on the world after the slumber of her first children nothing is to be feared as much as Humankind. This is simply because though they have the capacity to do good; they often choose not to.

Background
Tori is one of 6 grandkids descended from the current Mother (this does not, however, place him in any prestigious position within the society) one of which is his elder brother, Moro (yes, he’s named after the deity). Like every kid in the settlement he was forced to participate in every day labours since he was five years of age: mornings were spent collecting resources, afternoons were for playing and nights for lessons around the smokeless, blue fireplace.

However, when everyone of his age began to learn to hunt at the age of 15 he was forced to stay behind due to him suddenly starting to suffer from severe migraines and fever dreams. Many feared he had seen the Pale Owl and for three years he laid largely bed ridden. During this time his extended family looked after him and in particular his grandmother. She had plenty of interest in his dreams and in exchange taught him a great many stories and descriptions of faraway places, their people and the weird gods that they worshipped. When he was feeling well enough to walk around his brother, father and uncles taught him how to spar and as the symptoms subsided eventually took him hunting as well. He was 18 by this stage and much to his gratitude life returned more or less to normal. The migraines and fever dreams still happened, but now he was strong enough to live with them.

Now at the age of 21 young tribe members are meant to settle down with a partner and begin a family. However, the presence of outsiders has put these traditions at bay. This could be trouble and starting a family during troubled times is a bad omen.

Personality

Tori knows very much the value of family, he wouldn’t be alive otherwise and also knows that it is best to treat others with kindness first. It is easier to convince them of your point of view this way and should they betray this kindness than you are free to treat them however you see fit. His illness has also taught him to be patient, but he also wants to make up for the three years his lost. There are still places in this forest he hasn’t seen but everyone else has and then there are the lands beyond, the people there cannot be all bad…

Looks

Take Lloy’d head and add Elliwood’s ancestor hair (the guy with the blue hair that appears when Elliwood gets his sword). Now limit the stubble to the chin and give him a tanned complexion. The hair should be dark brown/black and if possible and doesn’t clash add a white streak to the sides, otherwise ignore it. Lastly clothing wise something that resembles cloth/leather armor will do (he is effectively a myrmidon) the motif of which should be equal parts dark and pale grey.

And sound track

Also For Tori's sound track.

The hunter's star. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRZKtrQXf6A)
Journey to the west (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJGqmf5vG9w)... um east

Good luck folks and hopefully Tori is a competent lord XD :P

Background: Wren's life has always been destined for the battlefield. As the daughter of the commander of the Mark of Steel, a renowned mercenary organization, Wren has been trained in the art of war since she was old enough to walk. She had a surprisingly happy childhood, despite the tendency of one or both of her parents to be off fighting in one battle or another, and this is largely due to how the Mark of Steel operates. The mercenary organization laid claim to an abandoned half-ruined fortress some thirty years ago, and many of the families of the mercenaries reside there. A small town has sprung up around the fortress, and the fortress itself is in good repair thanks to the large amounts of gold entering the organization's coffers. As such, its a safe place to raise a family, and Wren has always been treated like a beloved daughter by almost all of the mercenaries, thanks to their trust and respect for her parents.

Wren's style of fighting is inherited from both of her parents, along with a touch of her own. Her father leads the shock troops of the mercenary organization, the wyvern division, and from him, she learned the importance of defense and physical toughness. Her mother, a graduate from the magic academies in Bierland, tutored her in magic. Wren found herself drawn to Wind over the other two Anima schools, and unlike her mother, she is much more focused as a result.

At the young age of 15, Wren saw her first battle. The Mark of Steel takes contracts from nearly anyone, not just the three major kingdoms, and she fought at her mother's side as the organization took on a large barbarian group harassing unprotected villages near the Bierland mountain border. The operation lasted several months, and standing by her mother's side, Wren began to learn how to lead. She would follow her mother or her father into combat over the next several years, receiving tips as her parents groomed her to take over the Mark of Steel in the future.

As Wren turned 18, her parents decided to send her off to the academies in Bierland to learn more about her magical arts. Wren's quick mind and devotion to her art led her to excel at the universities as well, and three years later, she decided there was nothing more for her to learn studying. Practice makes perfect, after all. She sent a letter back home, informing her parents of her decision, and began making preparations to return. A small escort has been sent to pick her up as per her request, as the roads are not always safe for a young woman to travel alone.
Appearance:(I actually had a picture in mind when I thought of Wren, heh.)
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y71/WingsofTorlni/th_Wren.jpeg
Wren is a young woman that many would not suspect is involved with a mercenary group, if not for her uniform. Her slight frame and ready smile make her look poorly suited for war, though then again, many mages do not look the part of a warrior. She keeps her purple hair fairly short to keep it out of the way, and the hat she's always wearing helps to keep it in check.

The Mark of Steel operates as a military unit, not a poorly organized unit simply in it for the gold. They wear dark colored uniforms, and Wren is no different. She wears her uniform with pride, and a red armband on her left upper arm signifies her command role. Those at the university in Bierland that she attended quickly became used to seeing a slight girl walking around the halls in military uniform, as Wren has never really had any interest in wearing anything fashionable.
Personality:Wren is a bright, intelligent young woman who is rather easy to get along with. She takes things seriously when they should be taken seriously, and is quite willing to joke around to help lighten the mood when appropriate. She has always been the type to devote herself wholeheartedly to whatever it is she is doing, and her life goal is to make her parents proud and become an excellent member of the Mark of Steel. While she knows that, in time, she may end up taking over the Mark of Steel, she has no interest in doing so at this time. Wren knows she still lacks experience, and she looks up to both her father and mother almost as heroes. The thought of the day when they can no longer fight has never even crossed her mind.

The awesome Wren sprite and her awesome hat were made by our very own Kasanip, many thanks~

Personality:
Rein seems to have a [dour] personality. She often seems quiet, but is rational and a little blunt. She thinks deeply about things, even if she doesn't show it. Despite her age, she looks younger, and is a little short. She hates to be made fun of for especially these things. She is a perfectionist, and hates to fail or do poorly. In this way, she is a very good archer. Rein likes quiet things, her hobby is hunting and reading. Her favorite animal is [tiger], but she has never seen such an animal.

She has heroic blood, and is very sensitive about her failings to be a [Proper Lord]. She fears failing her family's expectations (and her lineage) very much, but there doesn't seem to be a way she can make them proud. Carrying this kind of responsibility, to be in an environment where she can relax is both frightening and a relief.

Background:Rein grew up in a difficult family. Being the daughter of house Nihmroden, she is a descendant of the hero Nihmroden, who helped to found Forden with his companions and Aldon. When Menes came and freed Awan, at that time Rein's ancestor died in battle, and their crest and divine weapon was lost. Now house Nihmroden is dishonored, and endures and has always passed down their history and pride to their children, the one legacy they hold, the blood of their ancestor.

Rein's older siblings did not live out of childhood. This made a lot of pressure for Rein. She grew up scorned and treated poorly by other noble children because of her dishonored family. With no ability to use magic, she could not escape to study abroad in Bierland. Instead she devoted herself to the bow and escaped to hunt, spending long times away from home.

I thought I'd keep the original Gilliam color-scheme for Ludvig; but the character is very much in need of a 'thunder' and map sprite.

My apologies for being vague

In contrast to Torvan's muted metal tone, Ludvig practically glows  Because it matched the Forden/Bierland color idiom, and I'm too noob to recolor Gilliam, I jelled with the idea.

If you'd like to customize the sprite, the 'gold' on Gilliam's collar could use a 'bronze' retouch.

It also has begun to dawn on me how masochistic an armor-encased fire mage must be. Unless his suit is half-copper.

edit: Ludvig will start with a Fire tome rather than Thunder, just to clarify.

If that's the case, the thunder may need to be orangish yellow as well to fit with the rest of the colours perhaps?

Also should I give Tori more cultural misunderstandings and awkward speech?

Since the recruitment thread seems to be more or less dead, I was going to ask you guys to try and rope in some of the other FE players on the board in a few chapters time when we've started to exhaust the wait list.

If you also want to change your build up a bit to make an Axe Knight, that's fine with me. Given the capturing option, there's a good chance that the party will be carrying a spare axe or two by the time you join.

Oh my~ I'm being a sloppy director. :smalleek: I commissioned Kasanip to finish the battle sprite with the intention of continuing the teal armor visual yesterday.

Shopping list:
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc411/Herpestidae/FireEmblem/Ludwig/Mug2.png (bronze gilding and graying hair) +
http://images.wikia.com/fireemblem/images/9/98/FE8_Gilliam.gif(moss primary)

Ludvig's face looks a bit too pale on the recolor. I like the gray hair a lot.

Kasanip's battle sprite:
http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/af275/umbrellako2/FE/ludvig.png

http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc411/Herpestidae/FireEmblem/Ludwig/Battle.png (moss recolor)

http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc411/Herpestidae/FireEmblem/Ludwig/Map2.png (moss recolor)

The bronze gilding needn't be present on the battle sprite, though if it is, that would be totally understandable due to the different types of anima and 'foreground lighting' and 'background lighting' of the different sprites.

a) I've boosted Thunder's crit rate to 10 and created an E rank Wind tome.
b) The enemy map sprites are kinda warped and awful looking. If someone wants to give me a crash course in doing this slightly more competently, the next one might look slightly better. If not, I defer to the usual excuses about good games not needing good graphics.
c) Holy mage tanks Batman! Neither Wren nor Ludvig can really capture though, so hopefully that'll balance things out.

Both Mage characters started 9|50% defense. Because Wren is level 4, to have 12 defense and 23 HP.

I'm wonder about how WhambamSam must make threatening enemies.
I think it will be difficult to make a challenge for Mage characters without to lunatic mode for other characters.

For example, enemy Udhan attacks 23, so to kill immediately Lucy and Tori. But normal [minions] cannot hurt Wren and Ludvig.

Nyna

@WhamBamSam: If it would make things easier I'm willing to lower Wren's defense a bit. I love the idea of a mage tank but having two of us might be a bit much, heheh. Also, Wren's PCC is 4, not 5 as listed in the IC thread~

Also, those are some nice levels for Wren. +3 HP, +1 Mag, +3 Skl, +2 Spd, +1 Luck, +3 Def, and +1 Con? Yeesh.

EDIT: No idea if we can influence enemies via taunting like in some other games on the forums, but I did it more for the RP value so do with it what you will~

@Water_and_Wind: I gave Wren a lot of defense because she's just stubborn as hell. That willpower of hers helped her rush from Bierland to Forden, hike up a mountain range, and make it to the meeting point all on her own with long travel hours. HP helps to represent that too but it's not nearly as fun. :smalltongue:

And yes, cool hats do provide defense. Against the cold.

@GrassyGnoll: Wren actually decided that she likes her feet firmly on the ground, away from where archers and wind mages can attack her for incredible amounts of damage, so she's just a Mage now. :smalltongue:

Clearly I should have made the mage penalties to Def harsher, since they really can just pour points into it.

You'll have to tell me what programs you used, or how you made the map.I meant to save it as a png, but it slipped my mind somehow. The map itself was made in Mappy, but the sprites and things were added in Paint, which was probably a colossally stupid way to go about it, but I couldn't really think of anything else at the time. Most of the FE mapmaking stuff that came up when I was googling it had more to do with ROM hacking.

We can also capture them which is what Tori wants, too many of his folks are truly dead.If he's faster than the enemy, he can steal anything with a Wt less than his Con. Also, fwiw these first few maps are largely meant to feed items to you guys through easy capture/steal fodder.

Oh, and because I forgot to tell you guys earlier, I noticed when making the "player stats" section that Lucy and Torvan need affinities.

Wren also got pretty lucky hitting +3 DEF on three levels. :smalltongue:

Would it be best if I just shifted a few points somewhere else? I'm loathe to lower DEF too much, but I'm willing to work with you to make this a bit more balanced, heh. And yes, I noticed right out of the gate that mages were the best tanks, as they use MAG for both offense and defense, and thus only need two other stats (HP and DEF) for defense. Physical based characters require STR for damage, along with HP, DEF, and MAG (which is basically RES for them) to tank effectively, which makes them play as expected. I wanted to play a tank and a mage, and I didn't have to decide between them in this, which made me happy. But it might be a touch overpowered. :smalltongue:

The first map is going to continue looking somewhat crappy, though hopefully less so. I'll put a bit more effort into figuring out how to make the later ones nicer, but there's only so much horse changing that I'm willing to do midstream.

Regarding the mage discussion in general...

Martial characters should eventually outstrip mages in terms of actually being able to kill things, since the magic users are stuck choosing between Iron Sword level power or huge AS penalties, but that's a year or so away in real time. If it's alright with you, I think that spreading 5 points of her Def around to HP, Mag, Skl, Spd, and Luck would balance things so that she's at least only tanking physical stuff at Torvan's level. If in the distant future this game reaches its conclusion and I want to start another, I'll put harsher def penalties on the magic user template and possibly just rewrite the whole list of tomes altogether.

I'll give you guys a little while to decide whether that's fair and finalize your plan choice based on whatever you decide. In the mean time, I'll leave an RP post in the IC thread for your entertainment pleasure.

Yeah, I know, but that's essentially the size it has to be at the moment I'm afraid. I'm sort of stuck fumbling about with only minor corrections until the end of this map. In between this chapter and the next one I can figure out how to do things properly, and won't have to draw the whole thing from scratch. Sorry.

Higher resolution I'm not sure how to do. That's the size Mappy is giving me, so while I can make it bigger, it's going to lose some resolution. It should be a little easier to tell what's what, though.

prelim plan:
Wren to D11, attack Spear Fighter 5 (D10 for partial wall with Tori?)

Ludvig to F8, attack Archer 2

Lucy to E8, attack Archer 2

Stella to F9, heal Tori (threatened by Spear Fighter 1)

Tori to D9, steal Breeze from Mage 2

Torvan to E7 (wall for Lucy)

I recreated the map in Tiled, but I'm not too sure it's big enough because I have no frame of reference for this sort of thing.

Better?

No, wait, I understand what's happening! Use Inkscape to enlarge the map. It's a vector drawing program, so it can scale things without decreasing resolution (Look at my Zombie Apocalypse Maps (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=13948027&postcount=20), for example)

These are raster images, so a vector drawing program is unsuited. Use Paint, scale height and width 200%, done.

Can I request a review of the prelim plan? I think I screwed Stella's mov count.

WhamBamSam
2012-12-13, 05:21 PM
Stella can make it to F9. She has 5 move. Torvan can't reach E7, as it takes 3 move for a horse to cross a forest, but I'm not sure what he was walling Lucy against anyway.

It's SpearFighter4, not 5 though, which means he has a Javelin. I was sort of surprised that you guys weren't trying to capture him, and if a misreading due to the crappy image quality was the reason, my apologies.

At any rate, expect an update either late tonight or earlyish tomorrow.

Ludvig missed BowFighter2. I'm not sure whether this changes anything for you or what you want Torvan to do since he doesn't have enough move for what the plan tells him to do, so I'll give you guys until 12:00EST to work it out.

Lucy missed her first attack and hence failed to kill BowFighter2, so I was going to put him at F8 to keep Stella from being attacked, but due to the patheticness of the enemies and the quirk of the exp system that'll give Stella 30exp for a low risk attack, I'll just go with it unless you think that it's just too out of character for Torvan to allow such a thing.

I've been having to do this kind of a lot, and I'm just wondering why that is. Are people just not really concerned because the first map is so easy? Is it still an issue with the maps? Do you feel uncomfortable making plans for the modified rules? Is there just a general lack of interest?

I can't read the maps and it's a new system.

If they weren't saved as .jpeg, it would help.

That, and it's hard to make good plans when the miss chance is so high. (And we're on forests. Yeah. Forests)

Ludvig attacks the Soldier, with Torvan stabbing him after. If Ludvig crits, which isn't so ridiculous a thought, Torvan moves to F6 and stabs the Bow Fighter.
Tori moves to C9 and stabs the Bow Fighter. (He doesn't have inventory room to steal the bow, and I'm assuming his blade has been "fixed," so he shouldn't complain too much about it.) This should kill.
Stella to E9 and heal Lucy.
Wren moves to D9 and attacks the Spear Fighter (doubles to kill)
Lucy to D8, attacks whomever is left.

Alternatively, if Tori is going to complain about it, Lucy can move to D8 first and trade the tomes from Tori, then stab the guy. If she misses, Tori steals the guy's bow instead of stabbing him.

Another thing I notice, we're all listed as needed (X/50) for our weapon XP, but we don't all have the same weapon rank... Is that... supposed to be right?

Disclaimer: I don't actually use Tiled for my own game.

Set the initial layer to 16x16 and subsequent tile-layers as 16x24. You need to make sure to set transparency where necessary, but here's an example:

First slap together your 16x16 background tiles. I'm dumb and saved over the background only image, so there're enemies on this sample image. Regardless, they're on the 'enemy layer' and not actually part of the terrain. On that note, please excuse the terrible terrain as it's not my purpose here,

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f53/ViaSolaris/sample.png

Anyways, that's what you get. Click the little 'save with zoom' (ctrl++ or ctrl+- to zoom) in order to get a nice large image. Here's me toggling the PC layer:

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f53/ViaSolaris/samplelayers-2.png
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f53/ViaSolaris/samplelayers-1.png

As long as you change layers for the differently sized tilesets, there shouldn't be any problems.

welp... 3rd down & inches...

Udhan really is nasty: capable of one-shotting half our party, and conceivably one-shotting the rest on a lucky crit. Drawing him out means necessarily dangling Ludvig/Torvan/Wren before him and swooping in for a quick kill. Chipping at his morphing wall of mook-bodies, may help, as only Ludvig, Torvan or Wren will be able to target him without risking a non-crit one-shot. That leaves mook clean-up to Tori, Lucy and Gruma. The latter may not venture beyond the E5/E7 diagonal without escort by the tanks.

so...

our own allied Lance Fighters may provide easy fodder for Udhan if they advance mindlessly, in case we want to delay engaging the boss next turn...

Gruma to C8 (block for Stella, next to clear for +mov)

Ludvig to D7, attack Swordfighter 2 with Fire (outside shaman range)

Lucy to E5, attack Swordfighter 2

Torvan rescues Lucy

Stella to D8 (bait/threatened by archer)

Tori to E7, take and deposit Lucy at E8

Oh thanks! It looks good, though I recall Wren mentioning she's in skirts somewhere in the middle of Page 1.

Go ahead, but since nobody ends their turn within range of Udhan we necessarily have to spend another round baiting him.

I'm totally fine with that, I volunteer Ludvig for first lure even.
I think Wren will end up being a more effective first lure. While Ludvig with Thunder has a better chance to outright kill Udhan (crit w/ Thunder OHKO's exactly in Woods), Wren is less likely to actually get killed (about 4% difference). She's also more likely to get at least one crit (29.6% chance on her second hit), which softens him up for the next Player Phase.

All numbers assume both characters are in Woods, and calculate in defenses and avoid. Also, my first time really running numbers like this on paper for FE, so I could be totally wrong. Feel free to doublecheck. :smalltongue:

Vs. Wren
Udhan: 39 Hit, 14 Crit = 5.46% kill chance
Wren: 74 Hit, 10 Crit = 7.4% crit chance
Wren attack 2: 74 Hit, 40 Crit = 29.6% crit chance
Crit Damage = 15, 2.1% kill chance (double crit)

Vs. Ludvig
Udhan: 68 Hit, 14 Crit = 9.52% kill chance
Ludvig w/Fire: 69 Hit, 8 Crit = 5.52% crit, no kill (17 damage)
Ludvig w/Thunder: 59 Hit, 18 Crit = 10.62% crit/kill (23 damage)

I can see arguments for either of them, but I think Wren is probably best for setting us up for the next round. If she hits once and crits once, she'll deal 17 damage, which will drop Udhan to 6, which is how much Ludvig deals with a normal Thunder hit. Either way, we're talking slim odds here, given the miss rates. Wren's chance to hit once and then crit once is a little more than 22%, for example.

On that note, I think most of your characters aren't too fond of mine, either.

Shannon and Alberich are slap-slap-kiss at best.

Paris and Nina are the outlier.

I'm assuming you're happy I didn't play her in your game :smalltongue:

As I've said before it's characters who's characterization is founded mainly in their sexual activities and desires that I find distasteful. There are, however, exceptions to this and its really when it's done maturely or when it is revealed after exploring the other layers of a character or if it's an aspect that is important, but is not the main/driving focus of the character.

E.G.: "Hi! I am miss Fan Service and I clumsily walk around to provide panty shots! Every guy and girl wants to get it on with me. Teehee!"- This is bad, very bad. In fact I find it offensive as it objectifies said character and apart from uh... having intercourse with her, my PC/NPCs can do little else in terms of interaction.

E.G. 2: Beatrice is a swashbuckling pirate and captain of the Peeping Mermaid. She's a cool and confident woman that is quick to anger, quick to forgive, but slow to forget. She had a tanned face of slender features that is marred by a cutlass scar across the nose. Her blah blah *insert back story and further appearance here*.

You can input stuff about Beatrice's sexuality as well if you like. But they aren't needed, she already is interesting and fleshed out. Indeed if sex does come along depending on the PG of your game it is perhaps best kept secret until that point or just hinted at.

So far Lucy's IC posts I find ok, but so far her character is the least interesting of the lot to me (excluding of course Tori as I am not fit to judge him, being his creator). It's early days, however, and I know very well that you can create and play interesting characters (Jennifer and Nina for e.g.)

Tori to D7 (clear E6 for Torvan)

Torvan to E6, rescue Tori

Lucy to E7, deposit Tori at E8 (keep the Lord away from the OHKO boss)

Ludvig to D7

Wren to A7 (corners Udhan if he attacks Spear Fighter 1)

Gruma waits

Stella to D8 (support)

The plan doesn't work as written as Tori wouldn't be close enough for Torvan to rescue him, and Lucy doesn't have enough Con to carry Tori. Tori can just move to E8, though, so it's moot.

At any rate, to hopefully help you guys with your planning, here are the combat numbers against Udhan for everyone that could potentially reach him this turn. Torvan would need a successful heal from Stella first, of course.

Torvan
Torvan's first attack: 70% Hit, 10 damage, 7% chance to crit for 26 damage on a hit (cumulative crit chance 4.9%)
Udhan's counterattack: 38% Hit, 17 damage, 16% chance to crit for 40 damage on a hit (cumulative crit chance 6.08%)
Torvan's second attack 70% Hit, 10 damage, 35% chance to crit for 26 damage on a hit (cumulative crit chance 24.5%)
Torvan's chances of being killed: 5.78208% (chance of not critting his first attack and being critted on the counter)

Wren
Wren's first attack: 71% Hit, 4 damage, 10% chance to crit for 17 damage on a hit (cumulative crit chance 7.1%)
Udhan's counterattack: 39% Hit, 13 damage, 14% chance to crit for 36 damage on a hit (cumulative crit chance 5.46%)
Wren's second attack: 71% Hit, 4 damage, 40% chance to crit for 17 damage on a hit (cumulative crit chance 28.4%)

Ludvig

Udhan's counterattack: 79% Hit (73% if Ludvig has Breeze equipped), 13 damage, 16% chance to crit for 36 damage on a hit (cumulative crit chance 12.64% (11.68% if Ludvig has Breeze equipped))

Lucy
Lucy's first attack: 72% Hit, 6 damage, 8% chance to crit for 18 damage (cumulative crit chance 5.76%),

@Illven:
Going all in is pretty much the only way to beat this map. If Wren and Ludvig get all of their attacks in one hit from Torvan or Lucy will kill him. Yes things probably will go wrong but letting a 23 attack boss loose for another round is going to kill someone next turn. Pray that PCC is useful.

Doh, forgot to mention that. The turn should start with Stella healing Torvan.
Here's my plan:

Stella to D6 Heal Torvan
Ludvig to D5 attack Udhan with Fire
Wren to C4 attack Udhan
Torvan to F4 attack Udhan
Everyone else waits

If we crit, celebrate; if Udhan crits not good. If there is any misses halt the update and we'll see how adapt to it. Quick question does PCC kick in even if a unit does miss the first hit?

Pursuit critical takes effect regardless of whether the first attack hits.

I shouldn't have made Udhan as powerful as I did. He probably should've had 0 Skl to reduce the crit threat and fit more with the role of someone who for all his bluster and fury, is more of a religious leader than a proper soldier.

I promise that I will never do anything like this again, and will instead be sure to n-tuple post/pm you guys until I get an answer, but I felt that under the circumstances, and without any other suggestions to go on, it was better than fudging a die roll to handwave him away.

Udhan was a very poorly designed encounter. Between his high crit rate and the fact that he was always on a forest, there wasn't really a safe way to bring him down, and I think that the waning interest in this game reflected that. I'll put more thought into these things in the future.

Torvan raised an eyebrow, but otherwise gave no response. After a moment, he chuckled slightly. "Perhaps some other time."

By which I mean this gave me support ideas.

To get her away from Wren, honestly. :smalltongue: (Partially because she's already all over the Princess, and he picked up on that.)

But Lucy isn't a one woman kind of girl :smalltongue:

Okay. I was expecting someone in the party to run after Stella so we could get something going. *looks at RP*

I'll give this until, say, 24 hours or when Wham gets the second map up, whichever comes first. Then I'll go ahead and bring Stella back to sing the dirge, which will be The Edge of Night unless I get any suggestions until then.

Are we waiting until the end of the roleplay for a new map, or were there delays?

Sorry folks,

I've been moving house.

Cheers,

The new map is finally up. This map also features a serious crit threat of a boss on a dense forest, but you don't have to fight this one yet unless you really want to.

I'm pretty swamped with work this week, so expect the update, along with mugs for the named characters around Sunday night at the earliest, and more likely around next Tuesday.

Ack. I still haven't got the 'dirge' scene up, and I still haven't decided what I'll have Stella sing. :smalleek:

Busy week here, sigh. Might be able to come up with something tomorrow, at the earliest.

Are the "Ally" NPCs Fordic? Is it safe to assume that Torvan would know them? (And have some influence over them, seeing as he's of higher rank?)

Can I request lines for the map? Otherwise I'm certain it's going to lead to issues with planning.

@WhamBamSam,

Actually, do you have a dirge or requiem in mind for the Church of the True Gods in mind? I can use that too.

@Penguinator: Yes, they're Fordic. Whether Torvan knows any of them is up to you. Forden's a big country so I hadn't really thought about it.

@Illven: Fixed. Sorry about that.

@Ascaloth: I don't have one off the top of my head, but as I have to write an essay tomorrow, my brain will almost certainly turn itself toward worldbuilding for my FE game almost immediately :smalltongue:. Really, I should think more carefully about the whole "what happens when you die" aspect when I design a religion, since it's kinda important, but I actually need to think about it for a bit.

What if Stella was to pull rank as the Princess and order them to submit to her royal/divine authority? :smalltongue:

Ah, fair enough. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. :smallwink:

I could have sworn I had hit send last night on my question:

So what's exactly the current situation? Is the Swynn forest getting invaded? Is it the other way around?

I need these clarified before posting IC.

You guys don't know who the group attacking the mission is at the moment. All you can tell right now is that they're some sort of relatively well organized force, and judging by the various clothing and armor that they're wearing, they come from a wide range of nationalities. Some are Swyn natives, others are from Forden, Bierland, and Awan.

Also, regarding the dirge/afterlife stuff, I'm coming to realize that given the title of the game and the various themes which associate with said title, this stuff might be kinda important. I'm going to spend a bit more time thinking about it to ensure that I come up with something I'm happy with.

Before the map starts.

Tori trades Breeze and Fire to Ludvig

Turn 1

Major Torvan starts at E20, and moves to E14

Tori starts at D20 and moves to E16

Stella starts at D21 and moves to E17

Lucy starts at E21 and moves to F17

Wren starts at F21 and moves to F18

Ludvig starts at E22 and moves to E18

How does that sound?
