Im just thinking, wouldn't it be cool if mysterious circumstances was an actual arcane disease? Well curse is more like it but still:

Over a period of time the character must succeed his saves/Roll/Form of fighting disease or eventually he dies of mysterious circumstances.

In a sense it warps the laws of reality so that the person dies a mysterious death caused by mysterious circumstances (A Random co-incidence caused by the reality warp) within a week of infection.

The point of this disease is to distract people from the fact that the person died of a disease allowing it to spread uncontrolled (Its infection is spread through investigation. Thus if you investigate a mysterious death you also die a mysterious death. Also by staring an infected person in the eyes for longer then a minute. This has to be intentional staring. Not just out of habit).

There has been no cure to infected people, but you can generally avoid being infected.

So for example:

Ms.McD dies under mysterious circumstances. With a pumpkin shaped scar over her eyes whilst clutching a piece of paper that said "BLUPLUPLULP NEVER AGAIN". She was killed by accidentally eating rat poison, the pumpkin scar is a coincidence and whilst trying to write a memoir she started writing gibberish for the fun of it and then decided that she would never again write gibberish.

This causes an investigation by an officer who wants to find out "The truth" thus causing him to die in some other mysterious way.

It'd have to be a rather silly campaign, but it'd be pretty decent for such a game. :smallamused:

Run it in a Northeastern coastal town where everyone has bizarre hobbies and seem to be out for you/ know more than they're letting on, but are really just trying to be helpful (badly). The natural habitat of the disease itself would be the scene of the "crime" and correspondence from late relatives requesting that you visit their estates to see to legal affairs.

This could be an amazing idea for a comedic game.

Definitely good for a comedic game. You could probably come up with a whole host of common cliches to go along with it as actual in-campaign substances.

Hehe. This is actually pretty much the entropy curse from Dresden Files; when it hits, circumstances conspire to immediately kill the victim.

One of the best cases (from Blood Rites):
Someone gets killed by a frozen turkey that falls out of the sky from a passing airplane. Legit.
