OOC OOC Notes:

Wow, my first ever hosted OOC Thread...

...Oh dear lord I'm nervous now.

In any case, sign in one last time for me! Everyone will be new arrivals unless specifically asking to be a native to the region. I'll have your IC ready by tomorrow.

I'm hoping for an update a week at least, preferably near the middle of the week. Everyone's got lives to live, understandably so, but I'm hoping we can still keep up a good pace, if possible.

I better start this off right....

Dungeonvania [OOC]
Dungeonvania [IC] (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=263477)

The Fortress of Blood... a dreaded bastion, host to spirits most foul, and monsters most abominable. Once thought to be the stronghold of the Lord of Darkness, who sought the destruction of the world.

Time and time again, it has been summoned from the darkest pits, to be used as the site of profane rituals in the Dark Lord's name. Time and time again, it is manipulated by the forces of evil, be it guided by the hands of the fiends themselves, or tampered with by mortals dabbling in forces they do not truly understand.

And time and time again, those that attempt to control its power have been struck down. Many a heroic hand have quested to see its return back to the abyss, for the protection of the innocent and for the safety of justice. Many a greedy adventurer have armed themselves to seek out its riches, ready to defend themselves against the horrors within. Many a warrior have trained their bodies, minds, and blades, and the dark forces served as an additional challenge. Regardless of motives, heroes have repelled evil's call throughout history.

But that was history. The light from the sun has grown dim, the difference between day and night marked mostly by the eerie crimson glow of the moon. Whispers, rumors, messages for help, and magical knowledge, reveal that, over a small island within a land locked lagoon, a foreboding fortress has appeared, and around it, hell has started to overtake the natural world. The undead rise again, seeking living flesh, and demons and devils make their presence known. An unearthly fog coats the ground, and the howls of various beasts can be heard for miles.

Who will face this threat what returns to threaten the land once again?

The 16, for completeness:

1. What game system are you running (D&D, Call of Cthulu, Palladium, GURPS, etc.), and if applicable what edition (Original, Classic, Revised, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, etc.)?

Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 edition.

2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)?

Gestalt. Non Specific Fantasy Setting.

3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many?

I would like to see around 6-8 players, but will take no more than 10-12ish, and no less than 4ish. BelGareth has an additional spot as a DMPC and CoDM to help fill slots, keep the game alive, and assist me and anyone else who needs it, hence the roundish numbers. I'll accept the first 20 applicants and stop recruiting after that, though I doubt I'll get quite that many to look through.

4. What's the gaming medium (OOTS, chat, e-mail etc.)?

Giantitp Play By Post. Create Sheets on Myth Weavers.

5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)?

Right at 5th Level, hopefully to go to near epic.

6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with?

Standard for the character's level.

7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes?

Some of the puzzles will require positive energy manipulation, so a source of Turn Undead would be beneficial to the potential party.

Additionally, I would be tickled pink to see someone play a Whip using hero. Whip or Spiked Chain. Just because it's thematically appropriate.

No homebrew classes, not for a first game.

8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species?

Run them by me first if not from core, but most likely anything from a book allowed. No homebrew races, not for a first game.

9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points?

Max Hit Points at All Levels, and 40 pt. buy.

10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?

Specific Class Alignment Restrictions can be waived if necessary for the character. However, I would -prefer- Non Evil characters. It's easier for me to point Good at Evil than it is Good & Evil, or Evil, vs. Good... or Evil. If you really want to play an Evil character, I won't be opposed to it, but I'd prefer Non Evil.

11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it?

You are not allowed to advance a Theurge Class on one side of the Gestalt without meeting all of the spell requirements on that specific side of the Gestalt. And don't you dare try a double Theurge. I'm hoping for a Tier 3ish grade party (ie non gamebreaking characters, not specifically Tier 3 characters). Other than that, no restrictions when it comes to multicasting. And yes, you can advance two prestige classes at the same time, provided you qualify for both.

12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?

Players roll in the IC, spoiled under their post's actions. Reroll in the OOC. If needed, I might roll passive checks for you, but my rolls are private for the most part.

13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules.

Gestalt, again with the reminder of the rules on Theurges and allowing prcs on both sides.

Bab and Saves are calculated fractionally.

Traits and Flaws determined by submission. I'm allowing up to 4 of each per character, but they have to actually be relevant to your character! Noncombatant and Shaky don't count on a non-offensive caster, for example. Likewise, the melee character that intends to not read anything taking Illiteracy as a flaw will be frowned upon.

Interested in using a Modified Class Defense Bonus and the Armor as Damage Reduction Bonus, but not necessary.

14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)?

Apply the Skirt Rule. Level 5 means you've had to have at least done something in your life before this adventure. Trained under a wise master, fought a few bar fights, worked a farm, etcetera. Whether you lived at the starting port town located on the edge of the lagoon (the Siren's Pearl), were ordered there or traveled there because of the rumors, that's where the adventure starts, so that's where your backstory needs to have placed you.

15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above?

This adventure will be primarily Hack & Slash, with some Puzzles and some Roleplaying. But mainly Hack & Slash. This is a Dungeon Crawler, not a Sand Box, to give me some experience as a DM.

16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters?

If I can find the book, I'll usually allow it, and that includes Dungeon or Dragon Magazine Material, as well as 3.0 material. At least so long as it isn’t too cheesy. However, no homebrew. Not for a first game.

Don't you dare ask me if I approve Tome of Battle or not. Warblades get their 2nd stance at 5th Level, Swordsages get x4 skill points at 1st Level, and Crusaders get their stances at the same levels a Warblade would (1st, 5th, 10th and 16th). No Iron Heart Surging enemies away. Stone Dragon has its movement and position limitations removed. Deepstone Sentinel is required to stay on the ground, rather than only move 5 feet, to activate its abilities.

And the team so far:

Also, we're you planning on breaking the group of 12 into smaller subgroups with their own IC threads? Otherwise, having this many people in one thread will move very slowly and may not survive.

That's actually somewhat the plan I've been considering, assuming all 12 post every week. I suspect a few droppers, though.

Oh, and btw, since we're pyrofriends, your pyro-spells get a +1 to their DC's. For being my friend and all. But you have to stay within 30ft!

I like the idea of smaller groups..... Especially if one group is all pryofriends. Or stick the monkadin in and watch him drink while we set the world on fire. :smalltongue:

I like the picture! Is the moon red from being set on fire? on second thought, might need the shades.

And yes, if you couldn't tell, I'm in a good mood right now. No, I did not set anything on fire.

The Monkadin might like that, kind of. It'd actually get him and his Wolf to agree (since the Wolf prefers raw meat).

That said, Alexios (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=468498) is reporting in. I'll get his equipment done shortly (I've been slacking, I admit it). Nothing game breaking, I promise. As for color, I'd prefer Something like this, but I fear it'd be a bit close to Garland's color. If so, I'd probably go with something more neutral.

Something tells me I'm gonna get a lot of mileage out of my Create Waters...

Hey!

No. Just no.

It states in section 5 article B of Bindin's Rulebook of BS Adventuring, part 41, that:

"As many know, adventurers are the cause of much destruction of the area. However, there is one trademark in this destruction that many adventurers leave. Fire. Many, so many, adventurers are hidden pyromaniacs, waiting for the perfect opportunity to burn.

However, this is not just a flame to the common adventurer. On the contrary, whenever an adventurer starts a fire, a spark's worth of his/her soul is imbued in the fire; for that fire represents the adventurers spirit. To put out that fire is the same as cursing one's name or stealing their security blanket.

Thus, for section 5 article B, I give you this: Under no circumstances, should you put out an adventurer's fire. To do so is to lash out at his/her spirit, and will most likely end with finding yourself being held over a lighter. Ah, wooden figurines burn so well......"

HandofCrom

Do not look down on the destructive potential of water. Remember how Heracles completed his labor of the stables, and you can use move earth or a mattock of the titans to emulate that trick on dungeons and caves.

I'm -SO- sorry it's been taking so long... I should have the IC absolutely no later than tonight.... I hate Final Exam Projects. But those $800 tuition bills mean I can't ignore them, even when I've made a commitment here.

Also, LoneMage, I think we've already got HandofCrom in Green. Care to pick a different green or another color? I'm modifying the op with the group roster, if it makes things easier. You could go with a bolding or a speciailized font, if you'd like. Surprised none of the Burn-It-All clan took Orange.

I'm cautious about tagging more until other people come in so that Rina and Sendale don't end up dominating the thread...

And I need to hurry up with an IC update... I believe by this weekend.

... you edited the IC in your previous post (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JwEdUWpMdLs/T5XUkgWRE2I/AAAAAAAAA88/6qLaErLKVf8/s640/mega_facepalm.jpg)...
... that explains why there aren't many posts IC... and why I noticed that it exists only now... (BTW, thanks NekoIncardine, I wouldn't notice it without your post)

I edited the IC in my previous post... Oh you checked it that fast before I managed to modify it into it? Jesus, you don't rest for a second! I thought I had enough time that those seeing the new post would have seen the latest version in...

Looking back, I see it shouldn't have taken me 3 hours to write....

It doesn't matter! You'll never extinguish our ambitions, for with ice, they will only becoming a warming steam that shall spread over the globe!

As a side not, I think I possess one of these two bloodlines:

But by that point, they get pushed away and weakened by the Wind and Absorbed into the Earth and the Clouds, so it's still a win.

Thankfully this game is more on the Dungeon side and less of the Roleplay side, otherwise I'd be much more concerned about those bloodlines. Though being smote by the Dm seems like it would be a draw, not a win. A win is sending him away crying.... don't make me cry my first time; I specifically asked you to be gentle...

For a minute, I honestly thought you were series about having bloodlines, and I was like "Did I approve those? Dang bloodlines...".

Okay, while I'm writing up some messages about your texts, I'd like to ask: would you guys prefer them as private messages, or just spoilered to each person? I've personally been a slightly bigger fan of the former, but I guess the latter makes more sense if the information isn't too mision critical, even though people might just peak at spoilers.

Slightly more important: Anyone seen Dreamshifter? He's the furthest behind, without any IC post, and I'm not sure if he ever said anything about being gone or busy. I'll consider him dropped if he doesn't say something by the end of the week.

Additionlly, Hellfire and BlueLanturn, you've yet to make checks. Care to? Or no?

One last additionally, and I really should have done this earlier: NekoIncarnate and Zman, how long have you been staying at the Inn before the others (Rita as a performer, and Ivy as an invisible lurker)? You'd probably have already overheard some of this guy's conversations and some of the other here say around here if you've been around for more than a day, and would get a small bonus to a few checks (these included) if so.

Updated my last IC Post to give the two relevant npcs "voices". Working on my next one.

I like spoilers. Think = Maybe this turns out so awesome that people are reading from the start... AND I like going back and doing the same. =P

But, I don't have many meta gaming problems. PM is the best for really important details / secrets. I used the idea, "Would the other player possibly want to tell others about this?" for a recent game.

Suit yourself... no potential bonuses for you, then.

I don't see the need to hold up the entire group for 1-2 players. No checks from Alurn, and so far, Alexios doesn't exist. Post coming by the end of the night, definitely.

:smallmad: ... At least after I add a bit for Rita. Darn you and your 3 day of experience! Might require everyone to make some extra rolls now (not vital to this moment, though, just general knowledge and gather information) to see if they know as much as you might from overhearing rumors for 3 days. DM is displeased with you! Obviously kidding; I'd probably procrastinate the post 'till later tonight anyway. :p

But yeah, post later, definitely by tonight.

Then again, it was probably a little worse when I had to check your age on your sheet to make sure it wasn't 18 or below. 'cause that would have been worse!

Psh, you were bragging about it earlier... that said, you're using the Silverbrow Human (and you died your hair), right? Since that's based off of White Dragons, which are [Cold], I'd be down with your Dragon Fire Inspiration being Cold Damage... but you have to pick one or the other now; you can't switch back and forth or to a new type unless you get a special ability for it or something. Did that myself in another game.

1) Rina has still been able to write and understand her languages this entire time; just not speak them. Just saying. :P

2) I think I'll go with that, if nothing else for a thematic twist... Plus the fact that it makes a bunch of the pyromaniacal attacks deal both Fire and Cold damage at the same time, which is a humorous mental image.

As for Rina's hair - yes, it is most definitely dyed. (And occasionally Prestidigitated.)

EDIT: And if things get to a full round with no fight breaking out, Rina will use the Fascinate effect to try and keep a fight from breaking out. Or at least so people can get an advantage if one does.

No need to, I'll just burn their faces off! I'm just waiting for them to make the first move, I don't want to begin the game going to jail for burning an innocent person. If he attacks, I has self defense on my side :smallwink:

1) Rina has still been able to write and understand her languages this entire time; just not speak them. Just saying. :P

Less Humorous, more Bad Ass... and probably more effective than just more Fire Damage....

As for Rina's hair - yes, it is most definitely dyed. (And occasionally Prestidigitated.)

I'd hae just assumed Prestidigitated for the dye effect entirely... I really should relook the rules for Least Wish Prestidigitation.

Dungeon tiles packs? I'll give AutoREALM a look, I suppose, but what are those?

... Rina has Bardic Knack and Jack of All Trades. She has every knowledge ever even those she hasn't trained in.

That doesn't get naughty once you add in obscure books. Nope, not at all.

*Quote of bindin garoth's*

How did you quote her rolls, yet her own post doesn't demonstrate such rolls?

Initiative: Natural 20

I almost feel bad that we aren't quite doing initiative just yet, since that Natural 20 in it. Anyone who scored a natural 20 in it gets to keep that for the next combat that starts. Otherwise, you'll probably be rerolling it when, and if, a fight starts here.

Good luck mate, sounds like your hands are full.

Thanks. I'll try my best to keep everything right.

Tear your **** off at an opportune time INo. Been working for me for years. I once had someone say hi to me. It was great.

Um, what exactly do you mean by this phrase? I don't understand what you're saying, and the random censor doesn't help.

Dungeon Tiles packs are commonly sold in stores (Paizo and WotC sell a lot of them), and there are plenty of freeware and cheapware sets online through RPGNow and other download shops.

A top-notch utility for putting the tiles together into maps is MapTool, a utility at rptools.net which is also one of the better online tabletop solutions. It's free, and its site has a gallery with a large number of tiles to grab and use, tutorials on how to use it, etc. While you don't likely need the advanced utilities it offers (Macros etc.), it's pretty easy to pick up and use for mapmaking, in my opinion.

EDIT: Also, Rina isn't bothering with those knowledges.

Yes, Good News, Everyone! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ziX31ysNWw) I can swear on my soul that tomorrow at the latest, if not sometime tonight, the IC will advance! Dear -GOD-, I am so sorry I kept you guys waiting for so long... shoulda been up earlier this week, and we'd be fighting by now... Seriously, sorry about that. Bel Gareth is going to help me make a map for you guys to fight on, and it shouldn't be too long beore our first combat ends!

One random note: I'm stealing something from another Dm: We're going to do Bracketed Initiative. What that means is that, rather than waiting on one player at a time, actions can be determined in groups. For example, say we've got 6 characters, with initiatives 18, 16, 11, 9, 4, and 1. The fighters at 18 and 16 get to act, and whoever posts first etween them acts. Once that bracket finishes, the ones at initaitive 11 and 9 get to go, then the two at 4 and 1.

So when everyone posts/decides their initiatives again, they will be divided into brackets, and people can move independently of each othr within their brackets.

Alrighty,

Co-DM here.

Just posted a Map of the outside of the tavern/Inn/what-have-you.

I didn't make tokens for you guys as only 3 of you have character pics, and well it would have taken me forever...soooo, please get a char pic so we can rock this map.

Go ahead and place yourself within one move action distance from the doorway of the inn (the beginning of the path). And pass the turn and link here so others can do the same. (cause it doesn't work if you all do it with out using the others) I'll probably have to fix it all, but oh well, that's the life of the DM....

I tried to keep the map small and light so it would load easily, I know Pyro maps can take a while to load for some...so if that is the case, just post a link to your char and I'll hook you up.

Any questions?

no?

good.

Well, I had intended to turn invisible, go right, and drop a nice chunk of damage on Cassius and every thug to his right, then go into whirlwind attack tanking mode. Wall of fire might be just a bit more lethal than we want, though: depending on mook hp, that could kill some outright.

EDIT: Looks like I messed up a bit on the map link, here (http://pyromancers.com/media/view/main.swf?round_id=22378) is one that should be right.

Roll initiative again? Or just repost what we already rolled? Either way, I'm going to activate cloak of deception and dance of death to travel by Cassius, Thug 1, Thug 8, and Thug 7, making attack rolls against each of them. If any of them have combat reflexes, they may get AOOs against me, I'm not sure if invisibility prevents them or not. If any of them can see invisibility, I will have ac21 and 20% concealment at the end of my turn, and ac19, 20% concealment during the move.

Ok, go post your actions and rolled initiative(don't reroll) on the ic. Invisibility will make the first opponent be flat footed against you, disapear(invisibility) and then the others will be flat footed from not acting yet.

I'm in clinging shadow stance, because it powers shadow blade. Also, the attacks are nonlethal unarmed strikes(don't want any deaths here.) Finally, cloak of deception actually mimics greater invisibility, but only lasts until the start of my next turn.

(Rina) I'm trying to figure out how you'd fail a caster level check now. It'd probably involve something like, I dunno, being completely lazy about the casting.

I sure wouldn't bother with that.

It applies to both the 1d8+level I can do every 5 rounds and the 1 hp I can do at will? The bard and the binder are making a good team. In that case, I heal an extra 8 hit points to the person I tried to help, or I did absolutely nothing except set up a chance for me to rip off ol' Dr. McCoy.

Gah... work sucks. On one hand, I worked 48 hours in a 4 day period. Seriously, when bills are an issue you'll appreciate -any- bit of cash. Even crying over hurting yourself washing a toilet is silly when that pay check comes in.... on the other hand, even my school work fell a bit...

Still, I continued to work on this computer (did I mention in my excuse post that Windows 8 sucks? Because Windows 8 seriously sucks), and I finally managed to gain access to all my books and character sheets again. So that's a good thing. Hopefully I'll pop in more often from now on.

If we got the full team back together again, I'd be elated. But If we can get at least 4-6 of (if memory serves) the former 9 back together, I'd be content, too. And it doesn't matter to me if we are to restart or continue where we left off before. I have all sorts of ideas for what you guys are to encounter up ahead, and they work just fine with any numbers (mainly because I hadn't gotten them completely stated out yet. ^_^;)

I'll let you guys decide: Would you like to see this story continue, while we see if this party returns to its full volume? Or would you like to see a different setting and plot? And it's completely on you if you'd like to try out new characters to either narratives, or roll with the heroes that you have.

I'd like to say this, especially if I hadn't said it already; I appreciate you guys hanging in there for me. I've wanted this for so long, and the support actually makes me feel better every day, and helps me push that much harder to get fully better, rather than just functional.

So you're one of the fabled Jade Phoenix Mages? Awesome! :smalltongue:

I mean, our DM is probably a cyborg at this point. Someoone should play one in his honor.

Between these two, I decided I want a Phoenix with a Mechanical Wing and Claw as my new avatar. Since my drawing hand is busted (not that I could draw myself out of a wet paper bag in the first place), I requested it be commissioned. I wonder if someone will accept it.

That said, I gave the other two, NekoIncardine and BlueLanturn, a little time to respond. I'm more than happy to give them more time (as you've given me), and just as fine with continuing with who we have now (given that heroes can be made to join the mission at any time). Power levels can be adjusted even further in game if need be, most likely raised or lowered.

Otherwise, I think I'm mentally ready to continue the game. So I should focus on that part. From the looks of it, you guys took the bait and fully engaged the fool to a fight. You then proceeded to slaughter the heck out of him and his gang; is that right, or am I missing any details? I was expecting that; felt there was a good 60-40 chance he'd be dead soon, so it doesn't hurt the plot I have in mind at all *edit:Though, I will check and see if there's a chance he survived your assault, just for the sake of roleplaying with him more before we forget about him*.

We can continue right from here if everyone else is ready. And we can move on in just a few.

Again, thank you guys so much for all of this. I'm sorry about holding you up so long.

Also, and the biggest reason I'm double posting, just making sure you see it for your posts; I'd like to ask two things:

First of all, I can't believe I talk as much as I do. I thought there'd be a lot more action already, but this is practically -THE- -LONGEST- -PROLOGUE- -EVER-! How bad a turn off is this right now? Keep in mind that it's almost over, though.

Second of all, do you guys prefer -more- mooks, or competent mooks, so long as the CR fits either way? Not to spoil it or anything, but lets just say I fully intend to make up for all of this faffing about I've put you through.

And lastly, as part of your post to confirm that you're alive and haven't quit on me for wasting your valuable time, Can I get a spot and listen check, if you so want? LoneMage, Melody gets a +5 to hers.

1) I'm enjoying it as a setup and character study, honestly.

2) Mix it up - sometimes, give us a swarm of burnable thingies, sometimes, give us a smaller number of foes who can take some hits. Consistency isn't always a good thing.

3) Will do!

Prologue is fine. On of mine lasted for 3 real life sessions and included traveling through half London... which was full of zombie...
This was long...

Mooks: sometimes more, sometimes less... If you throw more, mages are happy because AoE works really nice. If you throw less, but stronger, fighters are happy... or the mages with SoD or SoS spells...

And you did get your spot/listen check IC...

Monsters: Mix it up! Always mix it up. Have enemies invisible in waiting, use waves, please don't stick to the 1 big bad enemy motiff. I think blowing away Mook is a lot of fun. Use Dispels & use AoE Control (but not SoD... yet...) Also, Add abilities / mess with enemies from the books. CR is not a great system and leads to some strangely powerful / weak enemies for their level.

Edit: Also, fine with Prologue.

All right, let's see...

1) Fine with a long prologue.

2) I'm all about mooks being mooks - dying in one hit, not having name tags, all that jazz. Now, the lieutenants that are there to whip the mooks in shape are a different story.

HandofCrom
2013-04-11, 02:33 PM
1) As Mr. Gaunt said in "Needful Things" these things happen.

2) There are many classic dynamics that have been played with. Fight a horde of mooks, fight a team of equals, fight a solo boss, fight tough guys with lieutenants or minions, and so on. Go with whatever works and is fun. Yes, that is vague, so I'd say don't fret to much in advance, try things and see what works.

However, I'm actually a little concerned about it now, since after stating out the last 5% for this one, I'm afraid one or more of you -might- actually die. That's the only reason you aren't getting your update at this very moment. I'm crunching the numbers to find a nicer balance for the enemies between "This is boring" and "OHMYGODHELPMEHE'SCUTTINGOUTALLOFMYBLOOD", but I'm bad at math. BelGareth just finished his vacation (welcome him back!), and will hopefully be able to help me make it a "This is exciting, but that was kinda close" encounter. There's a chance I'm just being stupid, though, so I'll still work on it. Unless you guys think you're ready...

So, again, sorry that this isn't the day of the update, but after I redo my math, I'll see about sometime in the near future, possibly even sometime tomorrow or Monday, coming with an update.

Rina's cautious enough that she'd rather burn an Inspire Courage than risk it.

I was listening to some music on the computer, when -this- soundtrack came up. And listening to it for a few minutes helped me make a decision. So I demand that those who read this post read it with this music in the background. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Orh9MvEN9Ac) :smallcool:

I made this game for 3 reasons. First, I made it because Castlevania is awesome, and a game based on it would be at least hopefully fun, if not awesome? Secondly, I made it so that multiple people, you guys, the party, in particular, could also have fun.

And lastly, as selfish as it is, I made it so I could get some experience as a Dungeon Master. And I won't get that experience, won't adjust my expectations, won't gain the talent I need to properly lead a game, if I sit around and pull my every punch, or wait for someone else to do the dirty work of making this stuff work for me! It's long since time I did my part of this job, and made my contribution!

I even went so far out of the way as to OOC warn you about this encounter, and give you a full IC turn to prepare yourself. You guys are willing to play your cards, why the hell should I be scared to deal my hand? Even if it's kinda challenging, that's perfect! Let's see how well you guys can take a challenge! Let's see how well you work together! See just how strong you are, and how badly I might be over or underestimating you! It's time for a fight! Time for the dice to hit the floor, and the bodies too!

Those of you who haven't already, roll your initiatives and perception checks OOC. Feel free to edit them into your IC posts. By tomorrow, we'll have a map to work off of, too. It's time for the games to begin. :smallamused:

I'm ok with some challenging encounters. How else can we be death defying?

DM Advice: Sometimes you want to wait 1 -3 encounters before throwing the whole bag of bricks at your players so they can learn how their characters play together.

This may be a stupid question, but where's that initiative bonus coming from? Aura I didn't notice?

I got a +5 bonus from the secret PM from Names. (But shhh, don't tell anyone...)

THE FORUMS ARE BACK! Oh my goodness, yes!

I lost my freaking -mind- hoping for this to come back before final exams...

Speaking of which, said finals are the reason this hasn't updated Yet.

Before someone DDOS'ed the forums, I actually -did- complete a combat map on Pyromancers. I'm in class for the next few hours, though (really shouldn't even be on this screen right now before I get accused of cheating through the web), but I'd like to update tonight.

And yes, those that succeeded their perception checks before they went to sleep recieved bonuses to their initiative. Sendale may be paranoid in character, but he got a good rest, and didn't actually see or hear anything that would be worth keeping eyes and ears on.

I hope no one minds if I reward skill checks with bonuses like that?

Anywho, 200 questions to answer in 3 hours; gotta jet! Hopefully we didn't miss anyone in the DDOS and can start the fight tonight!

Speaking of which, someone forgot that initiative roll he was suppose to do...

Nope, not this guy....... although I'll just leave this here anyways....

Oh, that's what that is. I thought someone might have dipped martial and boosted everyone's init or something, but no complaints here. Bonuses for successful skill checks are fine by me. Side question, are you going to be posting the map link later, or did I miss it in an earlier post?

Side question, are you going to be posting the map link later, or did I miss it in an earlier post?

I was going to post it about a week ago, but the forum was down.

I swear I'm genuinely not lying about when I finished the map; I felt like a dog left outside the door when my laptop wouldn't connect to the forum... then I realized no other computer I could access could check it either.

So I felt a bit better.... until I went into withdraw from having -none- of my favorite activities available to me...

But yeah.... um.... it's been finished for a while, yeah. But.... it's kinda ugly.

IT'S MY FIRST MAP AND I DID IT WITH MY NON-BROKEN-OFF-HAND, DON'T JUDGE! :smalleek:

I'm checking how BelGareth started the previous match, and then I'll post it in the IC with the next part of the story.... When I do, you guys can post Ooc and update it with where you might be at the moment.

Hm.... While I do that, how about I roll some checks myself?

I forgot, I didn't actually need 2 of the 2nd set... But overall, it looks like most of them are as anxious to fight as I assume we are.

Double Posting to make sure you see. Blatant Copy Pasta.

Map. I think. (http://pyromancers.com/media/view/main.swf?round_id=30647)

Please mark where you would be on the map, with a note that the cart -was- in the middle of the clearing, with the darkness marking the path it was on before it got turned around.

Once you do, I'll update it with your opponents (see Place Holder Text). Do not post IC until I've got all your places, please. Post OOC, please.

Next time, I'll have the map made before I ask for initiative... :smallsigh:
