Hey folks I need some help with making a cohort for my 17th level Valenar Revenant Blade/Swift Hunter. I have the leadership feat with the score maxed out. I was looking for some type of monster to act as a partner/guardian flanker. My character is fast as hell so I want something quick to be able keep up with him and tough enough to survive a blow or two from a giant.

Thanks for the Help!

Isn't there a feat or a way to get a dragon for a cohort? I mean, it might just be a young dragon or maybe adult, but that'd be pretty sweet. I could be misremembering though. If there is though then I see no reason why you couldn't find one that would let you take some sort of other creature with moderate intelligence as a cohort. Honestly, it's probably the sort of thing you could ask your DM, because he might let you get a monstrous humanoid like an orc or something that could be fun for a cohort.

You could go with Wild Cohort (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031118a) for a 12 HD Warbeast (MM2) Fleshraker dinosaur (MM3). Give it Power Attack, Leap Attack, and Multiattack, along with Armbands of Might and the party Wizard casting (Greater) Mage Armor on it every day, and it's going to be extremely useful. If it Power Attacks for just -2 to hit, it gets +4 damage thanks to the armbands, and Leap Attack increases that to +8, so with five attacks on a pounce that's an extra 40 damage.

For a monstrous cohort, maybe go with a Dragonkin from the Draconomicon. It gets 7 HD of Monstrous Humanoid and a +2 LA, so it would have six class levels to work with as a 15th level cohort. It could have actually bought off (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/reducingLevelAdjustments.htm) one point of that LA at its sixth class level, which would put it down to +1 LA and seven class levels. I'd make it a Dungeoncrasher Fighter 2/ Deadly Hunter (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#druid) Druidic Avenger (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#druidVariantDruidicAve nger) 5 with Whirling Frenzy (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/classFeatureVariants.htm#rageVariantWhirlingFrenzy ). Its feats should definitely include Power Attack, Improved Bull Rush, and Knock-Back (RoS), which will allow it to Dungeoncrash opponents against the ground if it's flying above them. Extra Rage is pretty good, and say it visited the Otyugh Hole in Complete Scoundrel to get Extend Rage for 3,000 gp instead of having to spend a feat on it. Also include Practiced Spellcaster, and give it a Lesser Rod of Extend so it can use Cloud Wings (SC) on itself every day for a 70 ft. fly speed. Possibly also trade its Barbarian fast movement ability from Druidic Avenger for the Lion spiritual totem ACF for Barbarians in Complete Champion.

Thanks for the help so far folks. Some ideas won't fly my dm banned fleshrakers long ago after one player had a druid who cast venomfire on it after that they were suddenly extinct. As far as a dragon elves and dragons don't exactly mix in Eberron. I was looking for maybe a way to fit a winter wolf or maybe a yeth hound to the role something like that anyways.

Dragonkin would still work, despite the name they have absolutely nothing to do with actual dragons. They're large humanoid-shaped reptiles with wings.

Maybe go with one of the Canomorphs from Fiend Folio, they're canine outsiders (Hell Hound, Shadow Mastiff, and Vorr) which can take humanoid forms, similar to how lycanthropes can take animal forms. Each of the ones listed already have several class levels, so just replace those with whatever levels you want it to have.
