Large and larger creatures make great allies, companions, minions... etc.
But you can't always make them fit in the spaces they're confined.

-Reduce Person only works on humanoids
-Gaseous Form is useful but has its flaws
-Teleportation is great for doorways, but not if the ceiling is too low
-Polymorph Spells are great, but they are no equivalent for the real thing

I don't see much that really allows them to move freely beside you if they're too big.

Depends upon the location at the time. If like at a tavern, hunch down to fit into entrance. When in dungeon, sunder/whatever the walls surrounding the door. Heck, even get a free door outta the deal.

Sunder the the ceiling too? Huge creatures usually don't fit in 5 ft. underground corridors even with these tricks.

Why not. Useful way of dungeon bypass. Gotta rescue a damsel in distress in a fortress? Sunder the outside wall for areas for hands/feet and rescue her king kong style. Creativity can make for a funny session and possibly even bypass some traps/mobs, save some resources, etc.

as animewatcha said: depends on situation.

If it's a hostile monster, it's trapped for a reason. If the players are trying to escape, remember it's reach. Have it make a grapple as it stretches through the door, grabbing one of the players and dragging them back into the room.

Corridors are a horror. The rule for squeezing comes in handy here:
squeeze rules (http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Movement,_Position,_and_Distance#Squeezing)
large can squeeze to medium. Because nothing is more terrifying than the hydra squeezing up the tunnel after you!

If it's a player who is constantly large, let them work it out. That's half the fun. Like confronting a party of centaurs with a ladder being the only exit from certain doom.

Arms and Equipment guide has the shrink collar that turns anything wearing it into a Small creature. 10,000 gp. Otherwise, lard. Lots and lots of lard.

Neat. Wonder if I can fit it on my Retriever.

For getting big critters through temporary situations, Enveloping pit is usually plenty large, and is affordable at the mid levels when you might start attracting huge creatures. 10x10x50' has a lot of air. A huge creature can squeeze in quite capably, and live for hours in there while you enter a city, go shopping, have your audience with duke Fawfawfaw and then head out again, where you release them into a rented stables/warehouse/forest/farmer's field.

Or, if they're undead, constructs or oozes, leave them in the pit indefinitely.
