does it only apply to spells, or does it work with SLAs/wands too ?

If you read the restrictions on SLAs before it states "In all other ways, a spell-like ability functions just like a spell", I don't believe there would be a problem using SLAs with Project Image.

As for Wands, you are casting the spell from the wand, but you are still casting the spell so yes, it should also work with Project Image.
