can anyone find support anywhere what it is equivocated with regular tracking? like how expeditious dodge can count as dodge for feats and classes and things. I remember reading it somewhere in some erratum or another, but my google fu has failed me.

am I remembering wrong, or does this actually exist?

Well, it's in the SRD (listed with the Urban Ranger varriant class.) The SRD entry doesn't say it can serve as a replacement for Track. The SRD is also supposed to include all relevant errata. So, I guess by RAW, at least, it doesn't.

The most recent version of the feat is the one in cityscape, if I'm not mistaken, and it does not include any note on being used as a substitute for track.

I think you're misremembering this one, or remembering a specific requirement of some PrC or feat.

I've never seen anything that says you can swap them like you can with Expeditious Dodge/Dodge, but that would be a pretty reasonable thing to propose to a DM.
