The Kingdom of Emdar
Population: Unknown, as its recent establishment and veritable city-state status, plus frequent skirmishes, make establishing an accurate census futile.

Government: Emdar is a divinely-driven monarchy under the nominal rule of Zealous Vitality, a minor god who rules by proxy through a mortal designee known as the Voice, although most in town use the more common title of King or Queen - or Prince or Princess to denote the next in line, chosen entirely at the whim of Vitality and not through succession or trial.

Emdar, however, also has a set of noble families, which trace their lineage to the families that originally settled the area a few generations ago. As such, there is really no such thing as "old money" in Emdar and any nobles that happen to be wealthy tend to belong to families with active trade interests. On paper, being a noble gets you no more in the way of civil rights or perogatives than any other citizen. In reality, the fact that a number of Emdar's legal punishments are fines means that the upper class can get away with a lot more. Zealous Vitality doesn't care how disputes are settled so long as Emdar continues to grow and flourish.

Infrastructure: Emdar has only one major city, of the same name, situated on the Sapphire Falls River. The city is semi-divided along the river cutting through it. The "High Side" or "High End" tends to be clean, well kept, and orderly - by all accounts the better part of the city, and while you do not have to be a noble to live there, cost of living limits it to well-off merchants, artisans, the aristocracy, and their servants. The Low Side or Low End is more slums and cheaper establishments. While the city walls are of relatively equal quality all around, the reach of the legal authorities is not. Note that these are trends rather than absolute truths - the River Docks area is a very broad and poorly-defined dividing line between the areas, but it's possible to commit crimes in the High Side or live like a King in the Low Side - just more difficult.

Other towns and villages exist, but these are almost like tributaries to a city state rather than a fully cohesive nation. Zealous Vitality and the Voice always seem to be a few years away from attempting to consolidate all of them into a unified country.

UPDATE (15th Day of Resplendent Fire, 768 RY): Emdar has fallen, subject to simultaneous attacks by Haltan and Linowan forces while the majority of its military presence was elsewhere. The city-state fell in a single night, in one of the most brutal and bloody surprise raids in recent memory. Even if some aspect of the city survives, Zealous Vitality will be no more than a fraction of what he was, the Voice was slain, and the Voice-elect cannot be found, and is presumed dead.

Journal of the Upheaval: People
Terrestrial Exalted
Peleps Kaizoku Atarove
http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/jadetarem/Exalted/Kaizoku_zps821d3454.jpg
Age: Unknown, but unlikely to be under one hundred
Affiliations: The Noble House Peleps, The Thousand Scales, The Realm Navy, Linowan
Appearance: So far, Peleps Kaizoku Atarove is rarely seen without her black-blue jade armor and Wavecutter Daiklave. She has black hair, fair skin that sometimes sports a tan, and even, beautiful features.
Personality: Peleps Kaizoku appears to be arrogant and domineering, although not entirely without reason. As a well-established dragon-blooded leader, her powers (both physical and political) are significant, to say the least. With a talent for strategy and a hearty supply of Charms and other tricks, Kaizoku is dangerous - even before one factors in her calculating nature and ruthlessness.
History: Peleps Kaizoku served with distinction in the Realm Navy for many decades, eventually earning a sizable command and the respect of her many peers. She was eventually transferred to Linowan to attempt to rally the Realm's mortal allies against the Haltans - and more importantly, the Bull of the North - until sufficient reinforcements could be sent to counter the Bull's ever-growing forces. To that end, she's been raiding unfriendly and neutral targets for supplies and valuables and attempting to forge stronger alliances between the disparate Linowan boat clans. While she's making progress, what good it will do against the mighty Anathema remains to be seen...

V'neef Ezri (Bandit Queen Ezri)
http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/jadetarem/Exalted/EzriArmor_zpsb9331b87.jpghttp://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/jadetarem/Exalted/EzriWood_zps059dddf3.jpg
Age: 133
Affiliations: The Thousand Scales (Defunct), Meandering Way Merchant Company
Appearance: Ezri has dark skin and green hair, and is typically found wearing either her standard 'day-wear' hides (see above picture), or a set of functional, if ornate, green jade armor (see the other above picture). Ezri is generally well armed, either with fine mortal equipment or her green jade powerbow.
Personality: Ezri appears to be significantly less inhibited than the average Emdarian citizen. She tends to speak freely about what's on her mind even as she remains secretive about her own history and that of her partner, Meander. Friendly and highly competent, Ezri's motives for helping Titus with the rescue, like Meander's motives, remain unknown.
History: Ezri has shared little of her history, though it is now known that she once lead a large group of Realm soldiers and blames Kaizoku for their loss. At some point she was a bandit queen, judging by the name, and later joined Meander for reasons unknown.
Mortals
Caelia
http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/jadetarem/Exalted/CaeliaFirst_zps7aa91b9b.jpg
Age: Younger than Titus
Affiliations: Unknown
Appearance: With raven-black hair and cute features not quite hitting adulthood, Caelia stands a bit shorter than the average adult woman. Her one interaction with Titus had her wearing a lot of gear, including weapons and armor stolen from the Aelius estate.
Personality: Caelia appears to be optimistic, brave, enthusiastic, and perhaps a touch naive.
History: Almost nothing of Caelia's history is known.

UPDATE (7th Day of Descending Fire, year 768 RY): Caelia was captured by the Haltans during the fall of Emdar. Given the Haltan habit of feeding prisoners to their Fair Folk allies, she is presumed dead as soon as the Haltans return to their republic.

Horatia
http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/jadetarem/Exalted/Horatia_zps84208f40.jpg
Age: 18
Affiliations: The Jade Marks Gang (Defunct)
Appearance: Horatia has managed to procure an honest-to-goodness set of boiled leather armor, possibly from that Guild gentleman who came to town and was never heard from again. With deep brown hair and blue eyes, her overall appearance is diminished only by a somewhat underfed look.
History: Titus knows little of Horatia's history, save that it involves almost getting run over by a noble.
Personality: Flirtatious and charming, Horatia solves most problems by talking her way out of them. Her personal ambitions, if any, are unknown.

UPDATE (15th Day of Resplendent Fire, 768 RY): Horatia was killed in the Jade Marks' Dockside warehouse during the Fall of Emdar.

Meanderhttp://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/jadetarem/Exalted/Meander_zpsc52d6fc2.jpg
Age: Unknown
Affiliations: Meandering Way Merchant Company
Appearance: Meander can be found most typically in functional but... odd clothes, as though worn in another time and place. There's no disguising the fact that he's vaguely foreign, but vaguely foreign to what is impossible to pin down - he's an oddity so commonplace as to no longer be odd, and details of his appearance easily slip the mind.
Personality: Meander appears to be laid back and easygoing, remarkably so for a lone merchant traveling the East with a lone guard. He appears to have some kind of social relationship with his guard, Ezri, in addition to the professional one as her employer. If this has caused any disruption in their working life, it can't be easily seen. Notably, Meander seems to be prepared for nearly anything, showing a level of prescience that is truly remarkable.
History: Meander has divulged almost nothing of his history, and Ezri, for all her willingness to talk about all manner of other things, is similarly uninformative.

Nerohttp://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/jadetarem/Exalted/NeroPlusCrowd.jpg
Age: 19
Affiliations: The Jade Marks Gang (Defunct)
Citizenship: Emdarian
Appearance: Nero is possessed of pale skin and brown hair that, for whatever reason, seems to grey out in the wintertime, suggesting that his ancestry comes from far further to the North and West than Emdar. As the only member of the Jade Marks taller than Titus, Nero towers over most of his gang, but his thin, lanky frame and sardonic grin make him less intimidating than he otherwise might be.
History: Nero is the oldest member of the Jade Marks, and keeps his past to himself.
Personality: Organized and disciplined, Nero realized early on that the vicious economics of Emdar and the constant raiding surrounding it made succeeding in a relatively closed market or moving somewhere else close to impossible. Given that a criminal enterprise seemed the only way to go, he elected to start his own gang and has since been running the most efficient petty crimes ring ever to grace the Northeast. Not brilliant, per se, Nero is savvy enough to know that engendering loyalty through gratitude and security will get him a lot further than trying to intimidate every tough type in the low side, and runs the Jade Marks accordingly. His strikes have been growing more ambitious of late, though, and he's made frequent references to "the plan," which he apparently hopes will propel the Marks out of their rut...

UPDATE (7th Day of Descending Fire, year 768 RY): Nero was captured by the Haltans during the fall of Emdar. Given the Haltan habit of feeding prisoners to their Fair Folk allies, he is presumed dead as soon as the Haltans return to their republic.

Nova
http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/jadetarem/Exalted/Nova2_zps53ecfdea.jpg
Age: 12
Affiliations: The Jade Marks Gang (Defunct)
Citizenship: None
Appearance: Nova looks young even for her age, with green hair and green eyes. She dresses in whatever is available from the guild, seemingly without regard to utility or stealth.
Personality: Inquisitive and cheerful by default, Nova has an uncanny ability to avoid danger and find hidden goodies that ultimately convinced Nero to start her on jobs at her young age...
History: Nova was found by Nero during a rare break-in by the Marks, in a Guild slave-holding pen with a somewhat sub-par lock. He sprang her and offered her the use of some of the Jade Marks' resources for a bit until he could locate her family. After fruitlessly searching for weeks, he eventually concluded that the strange girl was from out of town and thus beyond his ability to restore to her true home, wherever it might be.

Nova has never blamed Nero for failing to find her home, as her memories of it are rather blurry, and her descriptions of it tend more toward hyperbole and nostalgia than anything useful. Regardless, Nova never gives the impression that she's anything less than thrilled to be working with the Jade Marks.

UPDATE (7th Day of Descending Fire, year 768 RGB): Nova escaped from Emdar with Nero's assistance and made her way - somehow - to Shadowholt. A brief meeting with Titus revealed that she no longer considers herself among the Jade Marks, had aged considerably for the three week absence, and that she potentially has access to Essence-based abilities. She left after a few cryptic remarks, displaying none of her characteristic good cheer. No further explanation was provided.

Journal of the Upheaval: Groups
The Jade Marks
http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/jadetarem/Exalted/NeroPlusJadeMarks.jpg

The Jade Marks are the most successful pickpocketing ring in Emdar. They do engage in other criminal activities, albeit sparingly, and remain successful due to the skills of Nero, who in addition to being a skilled thief himself is also an excellent organizer and leader, and Titus, who is the gang's best filcher and an exceptionally skilled street fighter - as well as one of the few true lower-class criminals in Emdar who can afford a decent diet.

The gang has multiple hideouts, all of them legally obfuscated and foreboding to outside appearances. More importantly, the gang's membership is at around thirty and growing, and Nero's efforts have become more ambitious of late. No serious confrontations have occurred yet, but the possibility of a turf war looms over the docks of Emdar...

UPDATE (7th Day of Descending Fire, 768 RY): The Jade Marks fared poorly in the fall of Emdar. Over half the gang lost their lives during the attack and the rest were scattered among the refugees. Nero and Titus disappeared, and their absence catalyzed the breakup of the gang.

WeaponsOdd Daiklavehttp://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/jadetarem/Exalted/SwordHour_zps19859436.jpg (http://s1121.photobucket.com/user/jadetarem/media/Exalted/SwordHour_zps19859436.jpg.html)
This weapon was formerly the property of the Aelius Family of Emdar. Immediately prior to the fall of the city, it was stolen by the Jade Marks gang, who subsequently lost it during the Haltan and Linowan assault on the Docks district. It was last seen being hurled into the river by Nero, but could theoretically be anywhere by now. Such things tend to resurface in time, however, for now little else about the weapon is known.

The Chain of Fools (●●●)
http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/jadetarem/Exalted/TheLine_zpsb5fe299e.jpg
This bizarre weapon is difficult to classify. The sword was originally developed and used in the first age by a rather active and dedicated Night Caste Solar who required flexibility and capability in her weapon above all else - even common sense - leading to the creation of this segmented monstrosity. The weapon can be forced into a rigid, locked state with an expenditure of essence, but typically a swing or thrust with any force behind it will cause the weapon to extend, as the segments are connected with a number of coiled, springy cables connected to some sort of mechanism in the hilt and inside the blade segments themselves. Needless to say, the weapon is extremely difficult to use, especially since, while the blade, hilt, and components are all forged of nigh indestructible five-metal alloy, the mechanisms are no longer perfectly aligned after so long in disuse, meaning that the weapon can theoretically 'break' in the hands of an unskilled - or unlucky - wielder.

Stats (Standard): Speed 5, Accuracy +2, Damage +6L/3, Defense +2, Rate (Special), Range (Special), Tags: 2, C, M, O, P, R, Special

Stats (Solid): Speed 5, Accuracy +2, Damage +8L/2, Defense +0, Rate 2, Tags: O, P

Stats (Clinch): Speed 6, Accuracy +0, Damage +6L/2, Defense -, Rate 1, Range (Special), Tags: 2, C, M, O, P, R, Special

All modes: Attune 5

Specials (Rate and Range): As mentioned before, the weapon is difficult to use. In Standard mode, the weapon has a range equal to ten times the wielder's permanent strength. This range is halved when attempting to clinch, as a large portion of the weapon is taken up with grappling the opponent. Rate, in Standard mode, is equal to the wielder's permanent dexterity divided by two, rounded up.

Specials (Mode switching): An expenditure of three motes of essence is required to shift the weapon into or out of its solid state. The weapon is considered Martial, Melee, and Throwing, but only counts as a Chain or Seven Section Staff for Martial Arts styles that have lists of specific form weapons.

Specials (Drawbacks): As mentioned before, the weapon is difficult to use. A Difficulty 2 Dexterity + Martial Arts roll is required to retract the weapon properly after it has been successfully parried, or before any action in which it is being used to attack multiple times. A failure limits the wielder to making a single attack with it that action, even if the extra attacks originate from a charm. On a botched roll, the mechanisms in the weapon break and the sword will not retract to allow for further activity, flopping uselessly about. An hour of maintenance by someone with no fewer than three dots of Lore or Craft is required to restore it to a working state. If the weapon is being used to clinch, a failure breaks the weapon, and a botch shatters it completely. What measures might need to be taken to repair it in that unhappy circumstance remain a mystery. Additional circumstances may also cause the weapon to break or shatter. Creation is a strange and wondrous place, however; it's possible that someone of sufficient skill and resources could correct this drawback...

Here's the character sheet! I fell asleep the other night, and I'm doing some work now, but you can expect an IC post in the next few hours.

Titus will speak in Sienna, which is about as close to his hair color as I can get.

Also, Emdar looks awesome.

Name: Titus, son of Janus
Race: Heroic Mortal
Sex: Male
Hair: Dusty Brown, short and relatively well taken care of
Eyes: Dark Brown
Skin: Tanned
Age: 16

Concept: A young, street-fighting thief with a family to feed.

Motivation: Provide for his family by any means necessary, preferably through thievery.

Intimacies: Family (provide for, protect), Thief Gang (allies, respect for superiors)

Characterization: Titus is a man of his word. If he says he's going to do something, he'll do it. He told his father, Janus, that he would make money for the family. He didn't say how. Titus had always had amazing dexterity, and had plenty of experience filching his father's pockets for kicks. The difference was he always returned his stolen goods to his father. When he was 12, he first approached one of poorer nobles; poor because he had few guards. All it took was darting past as if chasing after a friend. He made off with a sack of silver pieces, but got spotted by more experienced thieves. They quietly directed him into an alley, and told him he had a choice; work with their gang, and he'd be rich. Just do as his elders told him. If he refused, he'd be beaten and left in the road. It was an easy choice. Since then, Titus has moved his way up into being one of the most notorious (and successful, of course) pickpockets in the city, while also gaining a reputation among the local gangs for being a superior street-fighter. It's so much worse that he's young, but his own gang considers him a prodigy, and an obedient one. Titus gave his word that he'd work with the gang, and he always pays his dues. It helps that he's been able to feed his family for years. While not a coward, he's also not stupid when it comes to knowing when he's outnumbered. Although he wants to improve his skills to their peaks (and beyond, if he can), Titus first and foremost takes care of himself, so he can take care of his family. He doesn't want to get caught, but only because it could ruin his gang and his family's lives.

When it comes to fighting amongst the gangs, Titus has made some enemies. Unless it's to a member of his family or his gang, Titus is cold. He's incredibly limited to who he cares about. When he fights, his tactics are ruthless due to him wanting to take down the enemy as quickly as possible. Joints are typically broken. His victims are sometimes crippled from their wounds, which has earned him the hatred of several other gangs.

That said, he's gotten so protective of his sister (and missing his mother) that he sort of projects onto women. He outright refuses to hit a woman. It's seen as prick-ish.

To his gang-mates, he'll talk freely, but rarely does he initiate conversation unless it's for business. An exception would be to the hypothetical leader of the gang, who he'd respect and want to emulate, possibly.

While those close to him know he's completely open and caring with his siblings, they also know that with anyone outside that circle is subject to his temper. If he feels that his gang has been insulted, or heaven forbid his family, he'll lash out on impulse, typically physically. With his gang-mates, if they were to make the mistake of insulting his family's pride, he'd restrict himself to raging out verbally.

Physical Description: Titus hit a heavy growth spurt early on, and got stuck at 6' even, probably for all time. He has a dense build, however, which comes from training in brutal street-fighting with his gang and others, as well as daily exercise making sweeps for valuables through the city and avoiding authorities. His limbs are slightly longer than normal, with fingers that look almost lady-like, strangely mixed with worked knuckles. He typically wears simple burlap pants and a tan vest. He doesn't care for a shirt, but wears sandals worked for kicks. His face his well proportioned, with half-lidded eyes and a small, pointed nose. He's grown into his tall frame relatively well, and could be considered handsome.

Notes: Janus, his father, lives on a farm just outside the capitol of the small kingdom. He has 5 children in total: Titus, 16; Demetrius, 12; the identical twins Albus and Alphonse, 10; and the youngest daughter, Victoria, 8. Demetrius is eager to be a farmer like his father, and is built like an ox of a child. The twins are very intelligent, and enjoy finishing each other's sentences. Janus hopes they'll eventually be accepted into the army as officers due to their strategic minds. Victoria is energetic with a volatile temper, but a good heart; Janus hopes her temper will dissipate so that she can get married to a man with money.

Janus owns a small farm and several fields but only makes so much money, and can barely keep enough crops to feed himself; the kingdom's military demands a heavy tax. The family is aware that Titus makes his money with a gang, but they are not aware of the extent of his achievements in theft and violence. They silently accept it, while regretting that he has to do such a thing to help them survive. Titus stays mobile enough to avoid the authorities, especially to avoid any drafts they conduct; fortunately, the age to be drafted is 16, which means that Demetrius is safe for another few years.

The family's mother, Helena, died after giving birth to Victoria. Janus was and is grieved, but does not take it out onto the children; instead, he loses himself in his work tending the fields. He has also gained a rather profound sense of protectiveness over his children, especially his youngest daughter. While the children all still very much love Titus and he them, Titus and Janus are barely on speaking terms since the father learned his son was in a street gang. Titus still loves his father, but tacitly accepts his gruff refusal to speak to his son (unless it involves one of the other children, or an emergency). As a result, Titus only comes home to drop off food and other necessary goods.

Ran out of time for the OOC material tonight. Will get it up tomorrow. A fast note or two - yes, Nero is talking about pulling a burglary job (which is a bit ambitious for the Jade Marks).

Also, if it was unclear, the city is semi-divided along the river cutting through it.

Makes sense. Ooooo, burglary. Has this sort of thing happened before, at all? (I imagine this will be addressed anyway, but I'm specifically curious)

Looking forward to OOC material!

Nero has planned and executed burglaries twice before, to Titus's knowledge, but neither of the targets was a noble estate.

Also, I'd like to quickly point out that Creation's years are longer than RL years, and double check which ones you were using when you said that Titus was 18. If you meant Creation years, that would make Titus twenty-two-ish in real life.

In the IC where I said Nero was 23, I meant in RL years, and will change that.

Also, some OOC material is up. I'll hit the IC later today.

I'd read that fact about longer years than normal...reading up on lifespans, though, it seems like the average maximum lifespan for a mortal is about what it is for one of ours today. At least, that's what the internet is telling me. I can't seem to find the information in the core book...

Regardless, I meant Titus' age in RL terms as well. I can modify that ASAP.

New party member acquired! :smalltongue:

More OOC stuff added. I'll put Horatia and Nova in there tomorrow. In true RPG fashion, I'm putting every remotely-important character in the journal, regardless of whether or not they'll be around for long.

So congrats on rolling eight freaking successes on thirteen dice (well, 11 - Titus's stuff counted for 1 die, which got subtracted via mortality). :smalltongue: Contests of skill are actually not that complicated in Exalted until they become extended contests - or combat. We may need to work out a system to keep a single combat from taking months in real life - combats have been known to go to fifty ticks or more, even for Mano-a-Mano action.

I generally try to use the OOC for dice rolls, although we can put them in the IC in spoilers if you want. I just found that it was neater to use the OOC for it and leave the IC for narration.

I know I'm behind a bit on the Journal stuff, but I've been having too much fun with the IC. :smallamused:

Ah! My games vary with how they treat their dice rolls; some pull my technique here, so pull yours, some use the dice threads...just depends on the GM. In the future I shall endeavor to roll dice here.

Each of those successes was a 10, too. I feel a beam of light shining down on me. Or maybe it's the power of devils. Who knows. I'm having fun in the IC, too, and not just because of dice-luck!

I'll post in a bit, after breakfast. IC posts are hard to do on an empty stomach.

Nova's an Enlightened Mortal? Holy crap. Charms and stuff.

This should be fun.

Jade_Tarem
2012-12-17, 08:51 PM
Indeed! Nova is a god-blooded mortal, complete with a ten-mote personal essence pool.

Now! This is going to get stupidly-long if we post at the rate of one-per-day action/reaction. Not because we're bad at this, but because that's how PbP is. Instead, I'd like to run this little mission sort of like an old-style text based adventure. Nova can always take the following actions:

1) New Adjacent Area: Nova makes a Stealth + Dex roll and an Investigation + Perception Roll. Stunting not permitted, since you can't describe areas you haven't gone to yet.

2) Explore Current Area (Mundane): Nova makes a Wits + Investigation Roll to look for hidden treasure, booby traps, alarms, or surprise lookout points.

3) Explore Current Area (Spiritual): Nova makes a Wits + Awareness Roll and adds her essence to pick up a feeling for anything spooky or funky about the room - or to tell if she's getting close to the sword.

4) Backtrack: Requires only a Stealth + Dexterity roll.

2, 3, and 4 can be stunted. Opportunities to use Nova's charms might also arise, so be on the lookout for that. Nova, however, has a limited amount of time. There's no telling how many hallways, rooms, hidden closets, etc. might be in the estate, and she only has enough time to take 60 of those actions.

Combat (likely to occur if Nova is spotted) will shift us to regular combat-tick-time.

I'll keep track of what rooms you've explored in this thread. To begin with:

1st Floor areas (0/?)

2nd Floor areas (1/?)

Servant's Lavatory - 2nd Floor Room, window usually(?) left open. Unexplored.

3rd Floor areas (0/?)

Right, then. Sorry for the wait, had an unexpectedly busy day. However, here I am. I'mma have Nova exfil from the lavatory, and pronto. I'm assuming there's one exit. How much do you want me to put in the IC for her right now, besides the fact that she's leaving the bathroom? I'll post something basic after these rolls.

Anyway, rollin'.

No post for today, but I'll get one up tomorrow.

2012-12-19, 11:03 AM
So, I derped a bit when coming up with my idea for how I want to run this, and it hit me today that if I actually have you roll out sixty actions, this special mission will easily take two to three months to complete in real life. This was not at all what I intended.

So I'm switching back to dramatic time for vastly improved efficiency. I'm going to say that this first roll means that Nova has worked out how to get around the estate, but hasn't thoroughly explored any one area yet.

I'll provide a general layout of the estate tonight, and let you move on to the next post. Sorry for jerking you around on this - I'm learning too!

Astro_sol

It's completely fine. This is how it's supposed to work, right? Live and learn. I'm learning, too, so this is actually kinda good for me.

And oh would you look at that, a general layout of the estate. I'm sure I can do a series of rolls to determine which areas she explores, and we can focus on the ones with interesting things in them/the ones she botches.

Jade_Tarem
2012-12-19, 11:21 PM
Alright, there are actually fewer than sixty things to do at the estate, so we're going to see what Nova can and can't find. To make this go faster than three months of real time (doi!) I'm going to try this differently:

You can make an IC post of whatever type you like, with stunting allowed. If you can think of a clever way for Nova to get up to the third floor, I'll consider it. If not, there's always her Forgotten Earth Charm, but it will require another Dex + Stealth roll.

As for exploring the mansion, the best way to do this, and the way I should have done it to begin with, is as an extended contest. Go ahead and make five Investigation + Wits rolls (remember the three stunt dice). You may not need all of them, but each duration will be fifteen minutes, and for each of those, I'm going to roll the chance for something to happen to Titus and Horatia that will need to be dealt with.

Astro_sol

Right, I'll get those rolls rolled, and post an IC after breakfast. 5 dice + 3 stunt dice. Hopefully I can make up some cool stunts.

Sorry for the delay. Nova attained total success in 45 minutes before the guards could obtain enough successes to spot her. Her extended stay in the estate is almost over.

During her stay, Nova has discovered:

The aqueduct passage
The vault
The third floor conundrum
The traps

And for a bonus, has also discovered:

The princess

There is one last matter, though. To get to the third floor, Nova will have to use her charm. She did discover a good jumping-off point, but will need to make another Dex + Stealth roll to actually do this without being spotted.

Unfortunately, Nova wasn't swift enough to keep trouble from brewing outside. Some rival gang member has arrived and apparently wants sweet, sweet revenge on Titus for a lifetime of misdeeds. Your next IC post can be Titus-only, if you want; just the stealth roll from Nova in the OOC thread can let you conclude the admittedly-short character swap mission.

Astro_sol

Oh my! It appears that Horatia is attempting to engage Laelius in a very hostile sort of Social Combat Tutorial. The delay in posting may have been due to me having to look up the rules again.

As best as Titus can guess, Horatia is attempting to provoke Laelius into fighting Titus one-on-one, as opposed to six-or-seven-on-one. If this were, say, a bandit ambush, Laelius could cut short this Social Combat at any time by rolling a Join Battle and starting Actual Combat. But this isn't a bandit ambush - it's the middle of a crowded street, Laelius brought a bunch of cronies along, and his 'cred,' for whatever it's worth, is on the line, so he might converse long enough to be convinced. For his part, he's likely going to talk a seven-on-one fight up as fair, somehow.

As before, you normally wouldn't get this much information about him up front, and after this combat you won't without other rolls. This is getting ahead of ourselves, though, so the first step is: A Join Debate roll.

Here's Horatia's: [roll0]
And Laelius's: [roll1]

Astro_sol
2012-12-23, 11:05 PM
Right! What all will you need from me, besides what I'm guessing is an IC post for Nova along with a Dex + Stealth roll? I'm not sure how Titus would contribute to Social Combat, unless you want me to just straight take control of Horatia.

Jade_Tarem
2012-12-23, 11:25 PM
Actually, we're more or less done with Nova.

As for Social Combat, you'll find that Social Combat is a lot like Real Combat, so both Titus and Horatia can participate on the same 'side.' You can leave it all to Horatia, but having Titus there might help (it might also expose you to Social Attacks, though). At other times, Titus will either have to engage in Social Combat or else do something physical to avoid it, like running away or attacking.

For now, I just need the Join Debate (Wits + Awareness) roll.

Astro_sol

Horatia is going to let you make the first move (you have both attained a roll of 3 to Laelius's 2, therefore your roll sets the "reaction count" and you get to go on tick 0. Laelius acts on tick (3-2 = 1). Technically you both go at the same time, but in dramatic time one of you is talking before the other). Any valid Social actions will work.

Edit: as with combat, stunting can add dice here - the difference is that few people are swayed in their opinions by wild acrobatics and impressive use of scenery, so the actual strength of your IC arguments/taunts/seduction(?) will determine how many stunt dice you get. As before, you simply roll the stunt dice with each roll action and I'll decide how many apply.

2012-12-24, 12:45 AM
Well, if I'm reading this correctly, non-Exalted characters receive a two-die penalty for trying abilities in which they have zero dots. Titus has two dots in charisma, and just one in manipulation, and none in Presence, Investigation, or Performance. TBH I don't think he can do anything, besides just regular, powerless taunting. Which I can totally do, I just don't think he can make any actual attacks. I could have him be on the defensive, though.

Jade_Tarem
2012-12-24, 04:20 AM
In that case, you might want to have Horatia do everything after all (and may want to consider diversifying :smalltongue:). In a normal game, you can (and should) specialize this heavily to fulfill the 'beating things up' role - but this isn't a normal game. This is a solo game and Titus is going to have to be kind of a Renaissance man to get around Creation - there's no rush, but he's not always going to have helpful NPCs around to do things for him.

Astro_sol
2012-12-24, 08:06 AM
Indeed. IC post coming up. I'm learning, too!

Jade_Tarem
2012-12-24, 03:57 PM
Alright, Horatia is going to use her Manipulation + Presence to make a social attack against Laelius, who will defend with his Dodge MDV of Willpower + Integrity + Presence. However, Horatia has a whopping 4 dots of Appearance to Laelius's 2, so Laelius is eating a -2 external penalty to his Dodge MDV.

Worse yet for Laelius, Horatia is playing to his Valor, which happens to be his dominant 'Virtue,' imposing another -2 penalty. It also plays to his negative Intimacy toward Titus, but only the greater of the two penalties applies, so that -1 is sadly wasted. Had she appealed to his Motivation to be the baddest street fighter in Emdar, she might have cranked it up to -3, but she didn't know about that and went with the Valor angle instead. Laelius's Dodge MDV was already only equal to [Willpower 5 + Integrity 1 + Presence 1]/2 = 3 (round down for mortals!), so Horatia's taunting may fall into the overkill category, as Laelius's applicable defense has been reduced to below 0.

I already know what Horatia is saying prior to the roll, and while it might account for a one-dice stunt for the Exalted, Horatia is a mortal and will thus not receive a stunting bonus. On the other hand, Laelius will not receive any stunt boosts either.

If she succeeds (and with an unopposed 8d10, she probably will), Horatia will use her victory to Compel Action for the Rest of the Scene. As stated before, the desired action is for Laelius to abandon his numerical advantage and fight Titus one-on-one. She could also have tried to erode one of his Intimacies, build another one, or even tried to wear his Willpower down to zero and break him, but is going with the compulsory action.

Laelius isn't completely without recourse, though, as he can spend one of his precious Willpower points to ignore the effects. This is what they mean when they say that Willpower is like Social HP. He, however, will not - he kind of wants this rematch anyway.

Horatia (Manipulation + Presence): [roll0]

Edit: It seems like Laelius has been provoked. Now all I need is a Join Battle Roll from you.

Belated Merry Christmas!

And here's Laelius's Join Battle:

[roll0]

Edit: Oh my, it seems that Laelius is going first, despite being slower on the uptake. With three successes, the Reaction Count is 3, and Laelius acts on tick 0. Titus's 2 successes enable him to act for the first time on tick (3-2) = 1.

IC post upcoming...

For the purposes of combat not taking all year, I'm going to assume that you'll use the higher of your two defense ratings (dodge or parry) unless you tell me otherwise. In the future, we may want to save forum space by carrying out fights in AIM or something and describing the fight in one big post in the actual thread, but for now we can do it post-by-post. It shouldn't take too long unless you both roll terribly a bunch of times in a row.

So I forgot something that may make the rolling projected damage untenable. Your successes add to your damage dice. This didn't matter for Laelius, since he didn't hit you, but you exceeded his parry DV by 3, which means that you would roll 3 more damage dice. I shall roll them for you here.

[roll0]

Edit: I'm being dumb. See below.

Jade_Tarem
2012-12-29, 04:02 AM
So! Damage does not work like I thought. I had to go find an Exalted Tutorial guide, because the main rules do not make this clear.

Once we know the attack hits, we calculate raw damage. Nothing is, as yet, rolled.

Titus scored 7 total successes, minus the 4 for Laelius's parry. That's 3 successes, and even one means the attack hit.

Now the raw damage is (Strength 3 + Punch 0 + Extra Successes 3) = 6B (punching deals bludgeoning damage by default, and no charms or other shenanigans were used to change that).

Then we determine the net damage. This is the raw damage minus the soak. As a big ol' guy, Laelius has Bashing Soak equal to his Stamina of 3. This makes the net damage 3B.

Only now are dice rolled. The actual damage of the attack is [roll0]. Unlike every other roll in the game, a 10 does not count as two successes and it cannot be botched.

Sorry for jerking you around on this.

Edit: Laelius loses two health levels. However, this is not enough to overcome his Stamina, so he is not subject to Knockdown, Knockback, or Stunning.

Astro_sol
2012-12-29, 09:36 PM
Jerking around is fine, since at least it's the both of us doing it.

Anyway, time for a flurry. Titus didn't like the results of 1 punch, so he's going to go for the good ole 1-2 punch, so he doesn't lose as much DV (and I believe he gained 1 during his last action, but it didn't really matter at the time anyway).

Damage details are turds, it seems. Rolling Accuracy. -2 die penalty for first punch, -3 for the second, if I'm doing this at all correctly.

Thus, to hit:

Punch 1 [Dex 5 + MA 5 + Unarmed 1 + Punch 2 - Multiple Actions 2]: [roll0]
Punch 2 [Dex 5 + MA 5 + Unarmed 1 + Punch 2 - Multiple Actions 3]: [roll1]

EDIT: Uh oh on the first punch, betteron the second. I'mma try to stunt, as per usual, but I already rolled the dice. Here's to hoping that the next action goes better. May end up spending some precious willpower...

On to damage. 5 successes on the second roll; if Laelius still has Parry 4, then that's 1 success. And that eventually means only 1d10 to roll for damage, correct?

Jade_Tarem
2012-12-30, 05:21 AM
Edit: No, actually, Titus's second roll got 5 successes, which would normally have been reduced to one bonus success by Laelius's Parry DV.

But... Laelius has more things going against him now. His original Parry DV post-punch was 4, but now he's taking a -1 wound penalty (the wound penalty counts on several different rolls, plus defense values and movement speeds. It's bad news all around.) and is now suffering from something called the Onslaught Penalty - in other words, if you're attacked multiple times by someone in the same tick, you take a cumulative -1 penalty for each attack from that person. In other words, his accumulated penalties drop Laelius's Parry DV from a base 4 down to 3 for Titus's first attack and a mere 2 for the second. We could switch and take a look at his dodge DV, but that doesn't actually help him since it wasn't higher than his parry to begin with and the penalties apply to both DVs.

So Titus's 2 successes on the first attack come up against a Parry DV of 3 and get blocked, but the second punch's 5 successes come up against a Parry DV of 2. The attack hits - with three successes.

Since I'm going to need to know what the damage is before I roll anything else for Laelius, I'm going to roll it here.

So, going through the procedure again, raw damage is Titus's 3 Strength, plus 0 weapon base damage, plus 3 total successes, for a total raw damage of 6B.

Laelius still has 0L/3B soak, so we subtract 3 to get the net damage of 3B.

3B damage is now rolled. [roll0]

Edit: That's max damage. Grats! Laelius has nothing special boosting his health levels, so his overall health now looks like this:

-0: [●]
-1: [●][●]
-2: [●][●]
-4: [ ]
In: [ ]

One more punch like that will put him down for good and break something important. Alas, combat is fast and brutal for mere mortals, even heroic mortals, in the world of Exalted... and indeed most Exalted builds aren't really designed to take a huge pounding, focusing instead on not getting hit or hurt to begin with.

On the other hand, sometimes you run into someone like the ancient Lunar Exalt known as Leviathan, who has thirty -2 health levels and at least half a dozen of the other levels. You never know, and obviously I'm not going to tell you what the enemy's stats are once we get into the swing of things. :smalltongue:

Astro_sol
2012-12-31, 12:59 AM
I can really see why we should do this over instant messaging. These are a lot of rolls. Until then, since I'm still catching up with all this math (it's mostly self-doubt, which will fade), I'm completely OK with you rolling damage if I don't or mess up the roll.

Anyway, Titus is going for an awesome stunt kick.

...And got 7 bloody successes. Without possible stunt dice. >>

Since clinch does nothing to defense, I'm assuming Laelius' parry is 3, due to wound penalties. I think. So...4 successes + 3 Strength = 7B raw damage? -3B Soak, 4B net damage?

[roll0]

EDIT: Screwed up. Forgot kick adds 3B.

Astro_sol
2012-12-31, 01:02 AM
Double posting, but...adding 3B to net damage for 7B. Again, I think this is all correct, but math makes my brain do funny things.

[roll0]

Better. I hope that's correct because it's awesome.

EDIT: It's completely fine if you want to just add the first 3 dice of these rolls to the previous one I did. I just rolled it all for completeness' sake.

Jade_Tarem
2012-12-31, 03:11 PM
Ah yes. Titus's kick-flip is definitely worth some stunt dice. Since it's a fancy finishing move, I may go ahead and award 3... but then Titus was a mortal and it became 2. It's also worth the Knockback effect (that Titus is kicking up means that I don't feel right making it a Knockdown effect), and Laelius has passed out, so he can't even resist it.

I'm going to assume averages on successes, which gives Titus 1 more attack and damage success, for a total of 9B net damage (Laelius's wound penalty increased to -2 after that last punch, meaning that his Parry DV now maxes out at 2), giving one more total success in damage, for a total of six health levels of damage.

Aha! That means that Laelius is in deep trouble now. His new and improved health layout looks like this:

-0:[L]
-1:[L][L]
-2:[L][B]
-4:[B]
-X:[B]
-D:[ ][ ][ ]

See, once his Incapacitated level fills with Bashing damage, any further bashing damage starts over at the top as Lethal damage (and also the target passes out, meaning that Laelius has lost the fight), with all of the associated things that implies, such as bleeding.

Once the Incapacitated level fills with Lethal damage, any further damage pushes into the Dying levels (of which a target has an equal number to his stamina). Bashing fills into Dying as Lethal damage, Lethal and Aggravated damage push into Dying as they are.

Damage always "stacks" with Aggravated below Lethal and Lethal below Bashing. So if, somehow, Laelius were to take 1 level of Aggravated damage, it would fill his -0 health level, push the Lethal damage to fill the two -1 and -2 spots, and push the highest point of Bashing damage into the first Dying box, where it would also convert to Lethal.

There are worse things, too - Laelius is bleeding out now, although that isn't Titus's problem and Laelius will last for at least 9 minutes and 3 actions. Hopefully the Breaker Gang has a good doctor...

And if you're keeping track, this means that if your opponent has no health level boosting charms and a Stamina of 3, then 17 post-soak Bashing damage is sufficient to kill them outright - so it's absolutely possible that you can kick someone's head clean off. And it's even easier to do that to an extra! A sword, however, will do the job in half the time. :smalltongue:

Edit: And now we're officially moving back to dramatic time. Congratulations on winning your first Exalted combat! Next time we'll cover Extras and group combat. n_n

In many systems, this is where XP gets awarded. Not so in Exalted! You get XP at the end of the session, where it has surprisingly little to do with how many critters and people died.

You can RP your response to Nova and the entire rest of the afternoon, if you want. I'd like the chance to post again if/when you return to the Jade Masks, go to your family's farm, or do something risky.

Now then, let me be clear on the math here. I can make 3 Resource 3 purchases, or I could make one Resource 3 purchase or divvy it into 3 Resource 1 purchases? As well, are you saying one Resource 1 purchase would get Titus' family food for a month? I tried to find that in the book, but I can't find a reference so I just want to double-check.

As well, on another note: how long exactly is a year in Exalted compared to one IRL? I've been looking all over to find it and have just about given up.

Jade_Tarem
2013-01-03, 05:21 PM
You can make 3 Resource 3 purchases. A resource 3 purchase will buy Titus's family food (A relatively balanced diet thereof) as well as farm payments/other supplies for one month.

The thing about Exalted is that it tries very hard to represent money in the most abstract way possible, and the scale it uses is not linear. In other words, someone with Resources 2 is much more than twice as wealthy as someone with Resources 1, to the point of being able to make infinite Resource 1 purchases within reason.

However, purchasing something with dots equal to your resources drops your resources by one dot - so sometimes to represent a lump sum of money rather than an income, the ST will give you "X Resource Y purchases." So my estimation is that Titus maintains his family at Resources 3, but that the farm requires Resource 3 upkeep. In truth, that's a freaking expensive farm, but I'm chalking it up to the silly-taxes that you mentioned Emdar having in the recruitment thread. In truth, that situation won't last for too many sessions. Certainly, Titus is done for the month after paying it this time.

If Titus wants to go into business later (don't laugh, it could very well happen before the end of the game :smalltongue:) then we can get into the many kinds of currency and what everything actually costs, etc.

As for time, a year in Creation is 15 months, each of which is 28 days, plus the five days of Calibration (basically a five-day super-Halloween when all the weird stuff happens). So essentially each Creation year is 5/4 the size of an RL year. Someone who is 12 in Creation would be 15 in real life, for example. Those 15 months are divided into groups of three corresponding to an Element, and then that group of three is divided into a cycle of Ascending X, Resplendent X, and Descending X. So you'll see dates labeled as "the 15th day of Ascending Fire" or "the 3rd day of Resplendent Earth." To make things even easier, the seasons correspond to the element they're named after - as we progress into the three month cycle, things become less like the previous Element and more like the current one, such that Descending X is always the greatest representation of X. Everything is a little hotter during the Summer brought on by the Fire months (and the hottest during Descending Fire), everything is blooming and woodsier during the months of Wood (and the springiest during Descending Wood). The months of Earth tend to see each Direction's weather behave according to the element nearest to it.

After that, years are labeled according to the era, although the Realm usually marks dates from its own inception rather than Deliberative dates or Shogunate dates. So for instance, this game started on:

The 13th Day of Resplendent Fire, Realm Year (RY) 768

To further help you out, here (http://cdn.obsidianportal.com/map_images/664921/UncleChu_Exalted_calendar.gif) is Creation's calendar. As you can see, it's hot in Emdar right now, but not as hot as it's going to get this year. Emdar is far enough away from the realm to be using the celestial names for days of the week (Saturnday, etc), rather than the terrestrial ones (fireday, etc.). The phases of the Moon only tend to matter if you're a Lunar or in the Wyld, but we'll be using that calendar's moon phases for reference.

Hm. If there's still time for shopping...

Okay, this: after getting accosted on the street (not the first time, but he got a funny feeling, and this is a lot of money, so Titus is going to want to gear up. Could he take 1 Resource 3 purchase for farm supplies, 2 Resource 2 Purchases of custom fitted Cestuses (Cesti? I dunno about these, and I know he'd have to seek out someone, but the book specified "large cities"), and save the last "Resource 3" purchase for shopping around for something shiny for his sister? He'd probably call along Nova and Horatia to help due to the fact that they're girls and know what to get girls. I'll post IC as soon as I get confirmations on what he wants to get.

Yes, a resource 3 chunk of money can absolutely buy you a pair of Cestus(pl?), although I do wonder what you mean by "custom fitted"

Also recall that for resource three you can make them Fine Cesti(pl? I really need to look that up) and apply the relevant bonus.

Edit: In Latin, the plural is Caestus, but in English it's apparently Cestuses. Weird.

Yeah, I meant fine at least. I'd add 1 to Accuracy so they'd hit with the same accuracy as a normal punch. Yum. IC incoming.

So I goofed, and Titus can actually afford Perfect Cesti (the manual calls them 'Cesti'), although that will deplete one of his purchases completely.

I would like to point out that Cesti cannot block lethal attacks without a stunt, nor will they allow Titus to use his Unarmed specialty dot. While Laelius might have been nice enough to attack you unarmed, the rest of Creation likely won't be so forgiving. Just a heads up.

Astro_sol
2013-01-05, 09:35 AM
Hrm. I suspected the Unarmed Specialty point would be lost, and now that I've thought about it...

Would an Exceptional Chain Shirt, which can be concealed (which is the very reason I'm looking at it), be alright? (I'd have it lose the Mobility penalty because Titus hates being held back in speed, and the other point would add to soak).

If wearing that still lets him keep his unarmed specialty, I'll replace the Cesti purchase with that, and be completely done shopping, I swear.

Although since all he wears is a vest and pants, he'd probably start wearing a shirt to hide the chain shirt.

EDIT: Frodo Baggins' mithril chain shirt, what?

Jade_Tarem
2013-01-05, 01:00 PM
Yes, an Exceptional Chain Shirt is a possible purchase, and of course the padding to go under it (no one likes chafing) and whatever style of shirt/tunic/belt etc. to go over it are negligible purchases. To be clear, the stats as you've described them would be:

Exceptional Chain Shirt
+4L/+2B, Mobility 0, Fatigue 0, Tags: Concealable

As this is our first encounter with armor in Exalted, there are three things to keep in mind:

1. Some fancy artifact armors allow one to parry lethal attacks without a stunt. Most, however, do not - although almost all provide lethal soak.

2. All armors, even mundane armors, provide aggravated soak equal to their lethal soak, and this value is almost never shown in stat blocks. Of course, if you're facing aggravated soak as a mortal, it means that I'm a cold, cruel, nasty ST, but it's good to know!

3. Your Armored Soak stacks with your Natural Soak, so Titus's new total soak, wearing the above armor, is +4A/+4L/+5B, although many players leave off the aggravated value unless they have charms or equipment that make it different from their armor's lethal soak value. If someone uses a piercing weapon, it reduces armored soak by 4 or down to 2, whichever is higher. Piercing weapons can only reduce your armored soak, so a piercing weapon deployed against Titus's new armored body would make his effective soak +2L/+5B, since the armor would be reduced to the minimum possible soak of +2L/+2B, and Titus's natural soak is unaffected.

If you have any questions, let me know. I got a little confused on time frame; when you said the morning comes, did you mean after Titus got back to the city, or did you assume he would stay the night at the barn? I assumed he would get back to the city ASAP; he just had a good haul, so he used the opportunity to make a quick delivery and get back so he could be on call for anything needed for the robbery.

Alrighty, back in business, and Titus needs two things for this:

1) A weapon with a one-dot cost. Titus can find, purchase, or steal one with no difficulty, so it doesn't really need a lot of fanfare, but I sincerely doubt he'll be able to survive without something that can parry lethal damage.
2) A join battle roll.

Today we get to learn about extras and lethal damage. What fun!

Astro_sol
2013-01-17, 10:54 AM
Well, the problem with a one-dot weapon is that all of the one-dot weapons I can find are Melee weapons, which Titus has no dots in.

Now, he's totally open to using a Martial Arts weapon, which can use Martial Arts dots instead of Melee. Sai, Khatar (think punch dagger), Hook Sword, all of those deal lethal damage and can parry lethal damage without a stunt.

If that's a bit much (I'm sure he could steal one, or find one in the Jade Marks' armory, or whatever passes as one, or request one from Nero), maybe he could use a Knife, or make up a one-dot punch dagger smaller than a Khatar but feasible for him to use (since he'd still be doing his punching without changing his style up too much).

Aaaaaaaaaargh. Double post, but JOIN BATTLE.

[roll0]

Jade_Tarem
2013-01-17, 12:57 PM
I'm at work right now, so I can't double check, but I'm most of the way to sure that you can use your martial arts rating to wield melee weapons - try to imagine a kung fu movie without some dude wielding a staff! The difference is that Martial Arts can't be used in conjunction with Melee Charms (or vice versa).

Astro_sol
2013-01-17, 05:40 PM
For the life of me, I cannot find that ruling.

A staff would be just fine though. We can go with that, and it makes sense for Titus to know his way around one.

Jade_Tarem
2013-01-17, 09:32 PM
I actually had it backwards - the melee ability can be used to wield martial arts weapons, and no the other way around. However, I'm going to say that there are enough sticks and clubs lying around Emdar that Titus knows how to use a staff or club/cudgel with his martial arts rating (although he would need melee to use melee charms).

Additionally, the cost on the Fighting Chain is one dot, as per the errata, and Titus has spent enough time near the docks that it doesn't strain the imagination that he'd know how to fight with a chain either. So that plus the staff and cudgel are his three real weapon options. For fast reference, the primary benefits of each are:

Cudgel: One handed.
Staff: Has best raw stat bonuses and reach.
Chain: Also has reach, and has a clinch mode that has the piercing tag (presumably because you're crushing/choking the target instead of trying to beat through the armor).

Astro_sol
2013-01-17, 09:38 PM
I think I'll stick with the staff. Those stats look nice, it still makes the most sense. If the fighting chain had just a little bit better stats, I'd take it solely for stunt value. I think I can stunt up a staff.

Time to read up on Mat Cauthon from The Wheel of Time series again...

Jade_Tarem
2013-01-18, 07:16 PM
Ah, as the soldiers are not heroic, they only get a single success on their 10 result for Join Battle. Both they and Titus will act on Tick 0, which means that Titus's rolls will happen as though the soldiers haven't done anything yet (and vice-versa).

In this case, the combatants start in melee range. Unlike Titus, the soldiers do not have a weapon readied. Fortunately, they can flurry like everyone else - and there's a special rule concerning such a flurry: if a Draw Weapon action is incorporated into a flurry with attacks, the speed of the Draw is ignored. Each of them will flurry a draw action with an attack, making the flurry itself Speed 4, DV -2 (DV penalties additive).

Attack: [roll0]
Attack: [roll1]

Three successes and four successes is not enough to overcome Titus's Parry DV (especially after it was improved with the staff). It is still Tick 0, and still Titus's turn.

Astro_sol
2013-01-18, 09:00 PM
Titus will attempt a flurry, trying to down the male guard as quickly as possible. He doesn't like hitting women.

Staff Strikes, of which there are two! [Dex 5 + MA 5 + Staff 2 - Multiple Actions 2/3] = 10, then 9 dice. Of course, I shall be (attempting to be) stunting.

First Hit! [roll0]

Second Hit! [roll1]

EDIT: Holding off on damage rolls, since I dunno their Parry DV, or the extent of Titus' stunt.

Jade_Tarem
2013-01-20, 05:25 AM
Sorry for the slow response. The guards have a Parry DV of 4, which means that due to the Onslaught Penalty, Titus hits both times with 2 net successes on the first and one net success on the second.

Titus has a single stunt die after his Mortal Tax. To keep the thread clean, I'll go ahead and roll it here.

First Attack: [roll0]
Second Attack: [roll1]

Edit: Sad day. Anyway, 2 net successes on the first attack and one on the second. You can roll damage whenever you're ready.

Astro_sol
2013-01-20, 08:55 AM
I'm going to assume the guards have Stamina 3, for the purposes of net damage and soak.

Damage 1: [Strength 3 + Weapon 5 + Successes 2]: 10B raw damage, assuming 7B net damage. [roll0]
Damage 2: [Strength 3 + Weapon 5 + Successes 1]: 9B raw damage, assuming 6B net damage. [roll1]

Ewwwwwwww

Jade_Tarem
2013-01-20, 01:48 PM
Edit: I was dumb, and forgot that damage works differently for extras. You don't roll it - instead, extras take 1 level of damage (rounded up) for every three post-soak dice of damage you get. Looking at the raw damage, it seems Titus had 3 damage and 2 damage, each of which does 1 level of damage (out of three) to the guard.

IC post coming soon.

Astro_sol
2013-01-20, 05:45 PM
Alright, I want to try for Titus dropping the staff and attempting a clinch. I'm interested in channeling Conviction for it, as Titus wants to hold to his convictions in not hitting women; he can totally grab them and choke (Crush) them out, or toss her behind him to his friends, though. Can that work?

Otherwise I'll just roll for it regularly. I'll include stunt dice this time, as I always try for it anyway.

[Dex 5 + MA 5 + Clinch 0 + Stunt 3] = 10 base dice, 3 stunt. Base: [roll0], Stunt: [roll1]

EDIT: WELL I GUESS I DON'T NEED DAT CONVICTION but I'll still do it if it's allowed since I technically called it.

Jade_Tarem

12 guards. 6 coming this way. Well, then. Titus will hit the guard closest to him, once. Stunting as usual.

To Hit [Dex 5 + MA 5 + Weapon 2 + Stunt 3]: 12 base, 3 stunt

Base: [roll0]; Stunt: [roll1]

Niiiiiiiiiice

So that makes pre-soak damage...Strength 3 + Weapon 5 + Successes 9 (or 11, if stunting is super-awesome) = 17 (or 19).

Jade_Tarem
2013-01-26, 01:02 AM
Titus's post-tax stunt gives him one die. Sadly, this doesn't add to your successes.

These guards have about 10 bashing soak, including deductions for Parry, so that leaves Titus with 7 net damage. Given the way we calculate damage for extras, that gives us 7/3 rounded up = 3 levels of bashing damage, which is enough to incapacitate the first guard in one hit. Well done!

Unfortunately, work ran late to day and I have to go back tomorrow, so the IC post and guard response will have to be delayed once more. :smallfrown:

Alright, let's go! The 6 guards (remember, all of them get to go on Titus's tick, including the one he's destined to take out) are going to Dash, and the first three are going to flurry an attack! As non-heroic mortals, they get no stunt dice and 10s do not count double...

Guard 1 (Titus's Target):

[roll0]

Guard 2:

[roll1]

Guard 3:

[roll2]

Edit: they have all, in fact, failed to hit Titus's Parry DV. However! The dash action of the guards in the back has carried them past Titus. As a reflexive move, they are going to move in and surround him with the maximum possible number of surrounding melee attackers (five, for human-on-human combat). They have no commander and can't coordinate, but on the next attack, one of them will get an Unexpected attack in on Titus unless he can find a way out.

As he is surrounded, Titus cannot move or dash away without a stunt. Also, he must choose which one to present his back to - note that the guards who only dashed can act again in 3 ticks but will Aim long enough to attack in unison with the remaining two that charged on tick 5.

Essentially, one of the guards will automatically hit unless Titus can stunt his way out or take down one of his opponents. Plan carefully!

Astro_sol
2013-01-27, 09:57 PM
Alright, hm. I think I'll try a flurry, Dash and staff strike on one of the guards, probably to the right of him trying to escape out. It'll be a stunt, of course.

So, 2 actions = 3 dice penalty of the strike, so [Dex 5 + MA 5 + Weapon 2 - Flurry 3] = 9 raw dice. 3 stunt dice.

To Hit: [roll0]
Stunt: [roll1]

Hrm. Add 5B for staff for damage, 3B Str, so either 9 or 10B damage, depending on the stunt.

Jade_Tarem
2013-01-28, 09:11 PM
And here's where things may go south. Only 1 success on the roll does not beat any of the guards' Parry DV values. Titus's attack has failed. One upside: Titus cannot dash, and thus his Dash action is invalidated and did not lower his DV by another two points.

Guard attack time. I'm assuming you want to turn your back to one of the non-aiming guards to reduce the overall damage. Let's see what comes up...

[roll0] vs. Titus's full Parry DV - 1
[roll1] vs. Titus's full Parry DV - 1
[roll2] vs. Titus's full Parry DV - 1
[roll3] vs. Titus's full Parry DV - 1 (non-aiming guard)
[roll4] UNEXPECTED vs. Parry/Dodge DV 0 (non-aiming guard)

Jade_Tarem
2013-01-28, 09:16 PM
Guard #3 (from the previous round) has succeeded in stabbing Titus! Let's calculate damage...

The damage is initially tallied up as: 8L (Strength + Base Damage) + 3 hits (once again, 10's don't count as two successes for extras). This gives us 11L Raw Damage.

Then we subtract soak. Titus has no natural lethal soak, and his armored soak is 4L from the chain shirt that he's wearing. This drops the Net Damage to 7L. Let's hope the guard rolls low.

[roll0]

Edit: So there's good news and bad news. The good news is that Titus only took 1 level of Lethal damage - not enough to give him an internal action penalty. The bad news is that Titus...

A) Is now bleeding
B) Needs to make a roll to resist Knockdown
C) Is still surrounded

Titus goes again one tick before the guards do. Better make this one count...

Astro_sol
2013-01-28, 09:31 PM
Ouchies!

Ok. Titus is stubborn, and is going to attack one of the guards who aimed, maybe he can hit one. If he avoids Knockdown.

Thus, I'll roll attack anyway, stunting as well, but it'll be conditional on the Knockdown rolls.

THUS THUS: Knockdown [Dex 5 + Athletics 3] = 8d10 ; [roll0]

Attack: [Dex 5 + MA 5 + Weapon 2] = 12d10, +3d10 stunt ; [roll1], [roll2]

EDIT: GAH STUNT DICE also holy ****

Jade_Tarem
2013-01-31, 06:45 AM
I didn't bother rolling stunt dice, because it would have only gotten you from 8 to 9 dice of damage - not enough to make a difference after dividing by 3 and rounding up.

Also, the guards are out of fancy tricks, so I'd like to propose speeding this up a bit. Go ahead and roll your next six or so attacks as if you had a -0 wound penalty, and after you do I'll roll my next set and see if any of them manage max hits, which is what they need to beat your parry.

This was not a pity-save (Titus could probably have taken him), but this encounter was planned from the get go (we're still sort of in tutorial mode here).

The actual mechanics of what occurred are as follows:

Titus misses. Guardsman aims...
Interloper joins battle, aims, stunt-attacks with hammer.
Guardsman is now surrounded, plus the interloper has surprise. No defense possible.
Guardsman's armor is deducted, from the raw damage, net damage is still an impressive 13 dice, dealing 6 levels of bashing damage.
Guardsman is now at -4. At this point I elected to fudge just a bit and say he goes down, even though he could still technically fight - against 5 mostly-uninjured opponents the battle is a foregone conclusion, though, and I want to make up for time lost over the last couple of days.

The lesson: Surprise is bad news. Surprise with a giant hammer is worse news.

While it's important that Titus get to show off, a dynamic entry was needed for this NPC. Lest Titus start feeling inferior, this girl is massively over-geared compared to him.

Astro_sol
2013-02-14, 12:14 AM
Titus may also feel inferior being a Heroic Mortal who hasn't even gotten his first dose of XP yet. Or, much more likely, he won't feel inferior at all, because he's gotten as far as he has on his own two feet. With some help.

But yes! New NPC!

Jade_Tarem

Well, while Titus has earned some XP, XP tends to only be awarded at the end of a "session." While one of those is indeed coming up in the near future, xp can only be spent when there is a sufficient amount of time to train up an attribute/ability/charm/whatever. Granted, you can divvy up your downtime to complete your training in parts, but the one day of downtime Titus had wouldn't have made much difference. I realize your comment was likely in jest, but XP is kind of important and it's good for a GM to clarify how and when it's going to be handed out.

Astro_sol
2013-02-14, 12:27 AM
Yep, it was jest, but it is good to have these things explained as we go; having it in writing is nice. And I do like how these things take time in Exalted. In other systems, you can gain abilities in, like, in-game hours. Here, there's time.

Oh, right. Cassia. Bleeding.

[roll0]

'Atta girl. Titus stops bleeding again.

Jade_Tarem
2013-02-17, 09:43 AM
Sorry. Yes, Titus needs to make an Athletics roll.

Astro_sol
2013-02-17, 09:53 AM
Where does it say that? I looked it up, and vertical distance = Strength + Athletics (unrolled) in yards; Titus could jump 6 yards vertically (which is odd) and 12 yards horizontally (also odd). If we were playing "Gritty", halve both of those.

Am I wrong and I need to roll something?

Jade_Tarem
2013-02-17, 10:21 AM
The vertical and horizontal yardage is based on the following:

1. Anime Influence
2. There is no #2.

In this case, the roll isn't to make the distance so much as to perform the necessary acrobatics to land on the slanted and unstable roof surface without crashing through it or rolling off of it. It isn't a hard check (for Titus, anyway), but it probably should be rolled.

Astro_sol
2013-02-17, 10:31 AM
Alright, Athletics, then!

[roll0]

Or would it be, like, Dexterity plus Athletics? If it is, another [roll1] for Dex.

Jade_Tarem
2013-02-17, 01:26 PM
It is indeed Dexterity + Athletics. 4 successes is more than enough. I'll try to get another IC post up today.

Edit: Doesn't quite look like I'm going to make it. Tomorrow, though, definitely.

Jade_Tarem
2013-02-18, 08:35 PM
'Tis a somewhat combat-heavy sequence, I know, but the ongoing tutorial is indeed about to introduce something new.

I need a join battle roll. Titus will only be up against one of the Linowan Raiders, as they're splitting up evenly.

Join Battle: [roll0]

Astro_sol
2013-02-18, 08:38 PM
Let's see how this goes!

[roll0]

Well there we go.

EDIT: Looks like they go first anyway, don't it?

Jade_Tarem
2013-02-19, 11:44 PM
Sorry, busy day today.

To answer your question: Nope! The Linowan attackers, while not extras, are not heroic mortals and do not count 10's as double successes. Titus takes the first move.

Sorry, busy day today.

To answer your question: Nope! The Linowan attackers, while not extras, are not heroic mortals and do not count 10's as double successes. Titus takes the first move.

Tuesdays-Thursdays suck for me, so I can feel a bit where you're coming from.

Titus shall attempt a regular strike with the staff. IC post will of course be all fancy and whatnot.

[roll0]

Jade_Tarem
2013-02-20, 10:28 PM
I could have sworn there was a statblock for Linowan raiders somewhere, but there isn't, so I had to modify an existing one.

I'm awarding a single stunt die for the post. Let's see what you got: [roll0]

Ah, good, you've managed to hit him with a single post-defense success! While not heroic, he isn't an extra - you'll need to roll damage.

Astro_sol
2013-02-20, 10:33 PM
Right, so, 5B + that success + Strength 3, right? 9d10? Well, it's at the very least more than enough, right?

[roll0]

Jade_Tarem
2013-02-22, 12:03 PM
I realize that I'm ignoring the ticks right now, but most everyone is taking actions of approximately equal tick value. I'll sort out the exact ticks when I get home today. And once again, apologies for the delay. This week has been crazy, but I have the weekend off and should be able to get in a few posts to make up for it.

Nonetheless, Titus gets the next action.

Astro_sol
2013-02-22, 12:34 PM
Sweet! FLURRY!

[Dex 5 + MA 5 + Accuracy 2 - Multiple Actions 2] = 10, then 9 dice.

1st Attack [roll0] + Stunt [roll1]

2nd Attack [roll2] + Stunt [roll3]

Jade_Tarem
2013-02-22, 10:54 PM
Uh-oh. The raider has managed a hit. With an axe, of all things.

The raider scored six successes against Titus's PDV of 4 (reduced from 6 due to the flurry). That gives him 2 bonus dice, combined with a base damage of 8 (3 Strength + 5 weapon), for a total Raw damage of 10L.

Titus's armored soak reduces that to a net damage of 6L. Now it's time for the roll...

[roll0]

Edit: Titus takes 1 level of lethal damage from the roll, dropping him into his -1 levels. What's more, I need a [Dexterity OR Stamina] + [Athletics OR Resistance] roll to avoid knockback, at which point I'll edit my IC post.

Astro_sol
2013-02-22, 10:58 PM
Oh, my.

[Dex 5 + Athletics 3] [roll0]

Unless that's already affected by the -1 penalty.

Jade_Tarem
2013-02-22, 11:00 PM
Mrm. I think it is, but Titus succeeds regardless.

Jade_Tarem
2013-02-22, 11:10 PM
Alright, post modified. Titus has a new objective - Nero isn't interested in beating the entire Linowan force, just creating a distraction for Lucius and the others to escape. That accomplished, you need to get Caelia and get out of dodge. I'll leave how, exactly, up to you, but you know that Caelia is grappled, there's a hole in the ceiling and another where the front door used to be, as well as the passage Lucius is using for escape. Titus can use whatever tricks he knows to get out.

Astro_sol
2013-02-22, 11:25 PM
Right. They are in a sticky situation, Titus is starting to feel the effects of his wounds. He could bust out a number of ways.

Well, the main plan is to knock that bozo off of Caelia, and Titus refuses to give up in the face of a 4-man melee and being beaten down. So he's going to try to spend a Willpower, drop the staff and enhance a Clinch with Conviction, and try to engage pull that guy off of Caelia. He could whap him with a staff, but in Titus' head he may hit Caelia, so this is a better option for him.

Then, if that goes well, he'll get her to step on the end of the staff, which Titus will then heave to launch her up through the roof hole. He'd vault out with the staff after, if possible. Might need to spend more Willpower.

So, step one. 7/8 WP, adding 4 dice to Clinching that bozo.

[Dex 5 + MA 5 + Specialty 1 - Wound 1 + Conviction 4] = 14d10 + 3d10 Stunt

[roll0] + [roll1]

Jade_Tarem
2013-02-24, 12:35 AM
Ergh. Going to need one more day to sort out the rules and next part of this.

Jade_Tarem
2013-02-27, 12:04 AM
Heals! [roll0]

Edit: Caelia will successfully bind Titus's injuries again. Titus, for his part, needs to roll a Perception + Awareness to get a read of the city.

Astro_sol
2013-02-27, 06:44 AM
Perception + Awareness, then.

[roll0]

Well, one is better than nothing.

Jade_Tarem

Just a heads up: I'm going to a Pathfinder convention this weekend, starting Friday afternoon. I'll try to get a post up tonight and maybe tomorrow morning, but there won't be any posts from me Saturday or Sunday.

Astro_sol
2013-02-28, 12:16 PM
Alrighty then. I'll try to keep on the ball posting so we can make what progress we can.

Jade_Tarem
2013-03-01, 02:21 PM
Rrrgh. I wanted to deliver the big post today, but it looks like I'm not going to make it.

The next post has some meaty plot in it. I'll get it up Sunday night. Stay frosty!

Astro_sol
2013-03-02, 10:15 AM
Will do! Have fun at your Pathfinder convention!

Jade_Tarem
2013-03-03, 11:50 PM
I'm back! And the twist is loose!

Astro_sol
2013-03-04, 11:22 AM
Indeed! Well, well, well, wellwellwellwell...the plot thickens.

Titus' present plan is probably a bit stupid, but hey, roleplaying. He doesn't like women getting hurt, even if they're as awesome as Caelia...

...had a thought. Cassia was the medic who could bind injuries. Shall we just assume that Caelia has the same/a similar proficiency?

Jade_Tarem
2013-03-05, 12:27 AM
The new medical roll wasn't a mistake. Caelia does have a similar proficiency, planned from the start. :smallcool:

Astro_sol
2013-03-07, 02:25 PM
Ah, good. I thought as much, but of course I got mixed up, so I had to check.

Astro_sol
2013-03-09, 09:54 AM
So, I've really been thinking about this. And Titus' answer depends on two things.

1: How many Haltans does it look like are coming?

2: What is the absolutely most insulting thing that Titus can think of that would be best for, say, distracting the Haltans?

Suffice to say that while I don't know if a third option is possible here, Titus is sure going to try for one anyway.

Jade_Tarem
2013-03-09, 11:46 AM
It looks like 40 to 50 Haltans are approaching. Titus knows that the Haltans are more accepting of beastmen, Fair Folk, and even Anathema than most cultures in the area, so racial slurs are unlikely to work. However, Haltans do hate two things with such a passion that it's known even to a kid living on the streets of Emdar: they hate Linowan and all of its people, as well as people who cut down Redwood trees. How he might use that information is up to you.

Note that while it isn't impossible to take a third option, it is going to be significantly more difficult. Titus may end up with the worst of both worlds.

Astro_sol
2013-03-10, 12:37 AM
Hrm...

Wow, a tough choice for the kid with conviction. :smallamused:

I should have a post up in the morning. My Spring Break really starts tomorrow. But my busy week is finally over, so I should be able to post more often now.

Jade_Tarem
2013-03-11, 08:53 PM
Sorry for the lack of post, but I just now got off of work, and tomorrow doesn't look much better. I'll get another post up as soon as I can.

Going to make this an extended Dexterity + Stealth test. Roll me a bunch of those and remember the injury penalty.

Astro_sol
2013-03-13, 08:13 PM
Dexterity (5) + Stealth (0) - Wound Penalty (1) = 4d10. Bleargh. I'll roll you ten of them because it seems like a "bunch".

Jade_Tarem
2013-03-24, 11:32 PM
Sorry about the delay. Work and RL stuff has been crazier than ever. New post is up!

Jade_Tarem
2013-03-26, 11:37 PM
And another post up. Exposition and Background, ahoy!

Also, it's time to start thinking about what kind of Solar you want to be, and whether you want *me* to write the Exaltation scene or for you to write it yourself, and also whether you want me to pick your Exaltation type or whether you want to pick that out as well. It won't happen right away (we have quite a bit of downtime to get through, actually, not to mention more gritty mortal adventure!), but it will be before the end of this session, so it would be good to start cogitating on that.

Now, on Castes... I'm going to assume you know what they all are and the stereotypes and abilities involved, and just get to the selection process.

Titus has, so far, behaved most like a somewhat sneaky Dawn Caste or a very combative Night Caste. If you leave the decision up to me, Titus will Exalt as one of those two, based on whatever I think is most appropriate at the time it actually happens (that time can change based on what Titus does, of course).

Of course, the Exaltation is a life-altering event, and the five Favored abilities that Exalted get means that you're basically building your own class anyway. For that matter, very few Zenith Caste Exalted wanted to be priests of the Unconquered Sun until they actually became one - although if you choose to go Zenith, I would want to write at least the "Visitation from the Unconquered Sun" part of it.

Jade_Tarem
2013-03-27, 08:46 PM
A quick ping to ask about status.

Mostly I'm just wondering if something in the last post confused/threw you, or if maybe you didn't get the IC alert (my gitp subscription page drops things sometimes). If you're RL-swamped, then by all means take your time; this isn't a "hurry up" warning.

Astro_sol
2013-03-27, 09:06 PM
I'm sorry! I've been swamped. We have Friday off, though, and tomorrow is looking good, too. I'll get in Exalt info most likely tomorrow, though, tired now.

EDIT: In my infinite tiredness, I neglected to mention that I would have an IC post in the morning for you as well.

Astro_sol
2013-03-28, 07:04 AM
So I've thought about it, and I think that Titus would probably Exalt as a Night Caste. The Dawns feel more like generals, and Titus is more "thief who can fight" than "combat general who happens to be able to clean your pockets". Plus I like a lot of the Athletics Charms and such. I looked at the Dawn abilities and figured that since Martial Arts was my combat ability, I really didn't need much Dawn stuff.

This will probably mean investing in Stealth as much as I can.

IC post incoming after breakfast.

Edit: couldn't get a post in from my phone. Can now. I'm also fine with you writing the Exaltation event. It'd make a fun surprise.

Jade_Tarem
2013-03-30, 05:53 PM
Night Caste, ST-Exaltation it is!

Also, this begins our first stretch of downtime, meaning that Titus can now spend some of that xp he got from Session 1... if he wants to. Purchasing a dialect (such as Linowan) counts as a Lingusitics specialty (but remember that, unlike every other Ability, there is no maximum on how many Lingusitics specialties you can have).

If Titus is interested in improvement, now or in the future...

Ezri can train the following abilities:

Archery
Athletics
Awareness
Dodge
Linguistics
Lore
Medicine
Stealth
Survival

Meander can train the following abilities:

Awareness
Bureaucracy
Investigation
Lore
Occult
Resistance
Ride
Social
Stealth
Survival
Thrown

There is some overlap there, of course, but that's because eligibility to train is determined by whether or not they have more dots in that ability than Titus. As Titus is not doing anything while they travel, he can train for the requisite 8 hours per day and spend the other 8 helping them gather food or supplies, and helping them sell things in the towns they pass along the way.

We aren't going to roleplay every single day of the downtime, but I do intend to do a couple of scenes from the trip, once I know what (if anything) Titus is going to train in.

Astro_sol
2013-03-31, 11:25 AM
Well, I'm currently stuck between taking that Linowan dialect or getting a dot into Stealth.

So I'll just take both (3 xp and 3 xp for each, correct? With 2 xp left over).

Jade_Tarem
2013-03-31, 10:57 PM
Sick today. Will try to get post up tomorrow.

Jade_Tarem
2013-04-01, 04:42 PM
Post up, along with the first music cue! I add links to songs, occasionally, for particularly heroic sequences in the games I run. In Exalted, that usually means Essence users. As Titus's actions become more epic in scope, he'll probably accrue more than a few of his own.

I certainly don't intend to make a habit of having NPCs upstage Titus in combat, although I realize that I've interrupted the last three fights before Titus could get into them properly - at this point, story wise, it's more important that Titus see what he's really up against, going after a group of armed raiders supported by a Terrestrial Exalt who can do, if not exactly what Ezri just did, something equally impressive.

Astro_sol
2013-04-01, 11:57 PM
Well, we can't have him charging in completely blindly. :smalltongue: That was a great post, by the way. I'll do my best to match it in style (albeit with unfortunately a bit more brevity)... in the morning. Monday nights are my IRL DnD nights.

Jade_Tarem
2013-04-02, 07:16 PM
EXPOSITION DUUUUUUUUUMP!

So now Titus knows the basics behind Terrestrial Exalts and Essence. He can interject at any point during that super long-winded explanation with other questions, or jump to the next bit. Your choice.

Astro_sol
2013-04-02, 09:32 PM
Exposition read!

I'll have him throw in a few questions, and you could move on in the same post, since they wouldn't require any back-and-forth. I'll try to get an IC up tonight.

EDIT: Damn, missed my self-inflicted deadline by 20-ish minutes.

Jade_Tarem
2013-04-04, 11:04 PM
Post up! Ezri really has heard them all...

Also, Ezri's... antics... are not the interesting event that Hadassi was talking about. Titus is free to do as he wishes, interesting locales include the border, the docks, the market, the local entertainment (such as it is) and of course, Titus can always hang with his new merchant buddies.

Astro_sol
2013-04-05, 10:45 AM
Hmmm. Well, Titus is still only a little over a month outside of Emdar, and he's never really been anywhere else. So he'll probably wander around, probably to the market (those pickpocket urges, hoo boy). IC post incoming within the next few hours.

Astro_sol
2013-04-05, 09:54 PM

Yup. I'm back too. I'm glad you posted - I was about to ask.

Jade_Tarem

In my continuing quest to look for ways to streamline time-intensive things like battles and conversations, I might start including an asterisk (*) in long-winded talking or descriptive parts where I think enough time has passed that Titus could try to interrupt if he wants to - sort of like the Paragon/Renegade interrupts in ME2, but without any kind of associated meter (though I may track them for other reasons n_n). Does that sound like a good idea?

Astro_sol
2013-05-01, 10:36 AM
Ah, caught me in the middle of a post. That does sound like a good idea. Most of the time Titus doesn't really have any reason to stop/leave from whoever he's with, barring an emergency.

EDIT: Ah, missed the Paragon/Renegade bit. Yes. I like that a lot, actually.

[roll0]

Jade_Tarem
2013-05-20, 02:29 PM
Not bad! Especially since the two DBs aren't looking for Titus specifically, so they won't be dropping their spooky investigation or awareness charms into the roll.

[roll0]

It seems they don't notice Titus eavesdropping... but Titus still hasn't actually heard anything yet. Could I get a Perception + Awareness roll for our favorite hero? He can have one stunt die for the cajones involved in trying to pull sensitive information from the Realm.

Astro_sol
2013-05-20, 09:24 PM
You sure can!

[roll0]

Astro_sol

Jade_Tarem
2013-05-27, 11:45 PM
So... big goof on my part. When I posted "...something had prevented Titus from realizing it before..." I meant during the conversation, not forever and ever. In short, the age-up shouldn't be retroactive - Nova was a kid back in Emdar (well, kind of a young teenager). She just didn't get much taller as an adult. It seemed obvious to me until you made your last post, but now I can see how it could be really confusing. Sorry about that. :smallfrown:

2013-06-12, 09:59 AM
I'll need a few more hours for a post. Meant to update last night, but a Skype-based game session went longer than expected, and had to update a few other games in the meantime. Plus Titus' response is taking me a bit to work out. This is deep stuff!

Edit: so our air conditioner cut out. Been taking care of that. Will post once I can sit in the house without it feeling like the 7th Circle of Hell.

Edit 2: house was fixed late afternoon yesterday. I had a post for you sometime late last night, but GitP stopped working. Huh.

Anyway, here it is.

Jade_Tarem

So, to make up for the lack of posting lately, here's a big fancy post that moves the plot along and has a shiny picture to boot! Also, the original post of the OOC has been edited to include a *gasp* map. I finally worked out exactly where Emdar is/was, and have drawn Titus's travels in red.

In order for anything I've ever written about the logistics to make sense, I had to put Emdar farther south than I'd originally claimed, and also ninja-edited something Nero said to have the Emdarian refugees gathering south of Mount Metagalapa rather than south of Carnelian Peak.

That map helps a lot! I do have a question, though. Do you want me to just RP this, or are we going to...*gasp*...break into Social Combat again, which Titus really sucks at? And just double checking that their "story" is just that they're "merchants passing north from Emdar", and wondering if there's a city out West in particular that Titus could mention, or just throw one out there from the map you quite nicely provided.

We can RP this and save social combat for more critical talk-fu. That is indeed the story.

Titus can probably name most of the cities in The East, including those that are west of where he is now. He can pick one off of the map, name a new one, or even make one up if he feels like it. :smalltongue:

So, fairly soon I'd like to see Titus's Solar build, as well as a description of his Anima Banner if you're not leaving that up to me. We're not quite at that point yet, but I'd like to be able to do some foreshadowing and level design, and to do that I need the build and description.

Also, I needed to put something in this thread so that we wouldn't be in danger of violating the thread necromancy rules. :smallamused:

The flurry carries no special penalties. Attack as follows...

First Melee Excellency (4 motes) + Attack + Stunt - Disarm: [roll0]

Attack deals no damage. Titus must make a Wits + Martial Arts roll and obtain successes equal to the net successes from Kaizoku's attack in order to keep his weapon.
