How high can you Dispel?

How high can you pump a Dispel Magic check?

Chain Dispel allows CL up to +25. Due to the number of ways to increase CL, I assume you can hit +5 without too much trouble.

Inquisition Domain gives untyped +4 (Planar Touchstone feat or various dips)

Paragnostic Apostle's Penetrating Insight ability gives you another untyped +1. Though the wording it a bit weird here, since it says it applies to checks made "to successfully dispell another caster's spell". (Is the bonus a future psychic?)

So that means you can dispell a CL21 spell on a natural one, assuming the other caster didn't pile on anti-dispell bonuses. What else is there?

Spellcasters Bane gives +2 insight, while Dispelling Cord gives +2 competence.


Also, are you sure that Master Specialist (Abjurer) 10 gives +10? It looks to me like it gives +5 (competence). Which is still better than Dispelling Cord.

So that brings the total up to 37.

Empowered Chain Dispel at Abjuration CL 25 (Practiced SC, UMD Prayer Beads, MS), Inquisition Domain, 10 levels in MS, 5 levels of Legacy Champion (+2 to MS bonus) with a Rod Of Maximize spell.

20 (Maximized) + 7 (MS) + 4 (Inquisition, Planar touchstone) + 1d10 (Empowered) + 1 (PA) + 25 (CL) = ~62.5 on average.

In Pathfinder, dispels are uncapped. You can then port in all of the above items, feats and class features.

Dispel Psionics is also uncapped, which can have interesting implications for Wilders.

They don't. Maximize does not effect the casterlevel check. Reread dispel magic, maximize, and empower.

However, a caster level check is not part of the spell's effect itself, arguably; similarly, can you Maximize fabricate to get 20 on the Craft check involved?

On the other hand, whether or not it technically works, it's not really overpowered given the spell level adjustment.

But your dice roll isn't an effect of the spell. The effect is whether the target gets dispelled or not.

Unanswerable Strike from Initiate of the Seven Fold Veil PrC gives you +2 (or +4) to dispell Abjuration school spells if you take 2 (or 6) levels of it.
