Ok, so I have played in a few games on the PbP forum. Usually they promise a long term game, with lasting plot and RPing. Some games last I guess... but the ones I am in tend to crumble after the first adventure.
So, I wonder if it shouldn't be general advise for new PbP DMs/players to just have one shots... As it is a lot less discouraging if you get through the one shot and the group crumbles, then if the game breaks down as the DM transitions the group to the next adventure.
