This time of year, it seems like you can't turn on the TV without tripping over an adaptation of A Christmas Carol. These range from the excellent to the terrible, of course. Which do you think did the story best?

My personal favorites are Mickey's Christmas carol, for reasons I can't quite explain, and the Patrick Stewart version based entirely on Stewart's brilliant performance.

I like Atop the Fourth Wall's 2009 Christmas episode. It has on of the best twists on it.

Linkara shoots at the first ghost, and keeps telling the other ones off cause he already loves Christmas. It's better than it sounds. It also makes good use of his real life family as the ghosts.

There is only one Christmas Carol watched on a regular basis in my family and that's an old one. Alastair Sim's Scrooge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrooge_%281951_film%29).
The Muppet's one was really good though, and I plan on watching the Patrick Stewart one at some point.

1984 George C Scott version, by far. Acting and casting is so good, and it's extremely similar to the book. It's also the source of many family in-jokes, so I am attached to it.

I've always had a soft spot for the Muppets Christmas Carol. I still watch it when ever it's on.

Blackadder's Christmas Carol.

Unquestionably.

The Blackadder Christmas carol is brilliant. Huzzah for trope reversal.

Technically, not a carol. A song, yes, but not a carol.

For a second I thought you meant there was a 1984 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nineteen_Eighty-Four) version of the Christmas Carol...

Muppet Christmas Carol. It always takes me how well done the blend of jokes and using direct quotes from the story is.

I like George of the Jungle's Christmas Carol episode, wherein George tries to celebrate Christmas every day and must be shown by the Three Goats of Christmas Past, Present and Future how this gets really boring. :smalltongue:

Albert Finney's Scrooge (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066344/) and the Muppet Christmas Carol are perfect. Anything other than these are not welcome in my home come Christmas. The former has AMAZING music and a lot of heart. And the latter...um. Same.

The Jim Carrey one isn't the best version, but that scene where the Ghost of Christmas Present dies is powerful as hell.

The former was excellent, though I'm not particularly fond of musicals in general. As for the latter, I'm afraid of Muppets.

For me, Muppets. Something about Michael Caine as scrooge just gives it such class.

I'll have to check out the Blackadder one sometime.

Does the one with the TARDIS count (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1672218/)? In all seriousness, it was a really interesting take on the story.

Damn, I still need to watch the Blackadder one... some time this season.

Jim Carrey had a christmas carol? :smallconfused:

Yeah, I liked that but I'd have liked them to make use of the actual three ghosts and not... well, the one Doctor.

I also kind of liked the one with... Bill Murray, was it? Where he's a TV Producer and stuff, but I'll admit that might be my nostalgia goggles, haven't seen it in a while.

Alistair Sim's Scrooge(1951) is unquestionably the best, but I have a soft spot for the Mr. Magoo version.:smalltongue:

Scrooged starring Bill Murray. It's a great film from back in the height of Bill Murray's career.

Doug and Rob Walker had some really interesting things to say about doing a Christmas Carol adaptation right. (http://blip.tv/nostalgiacritic/sibling-rivalry-overlooked-movies-christmas-carol-1984-6457571)

Another vote for the Muppets, but I do want to see the Patrick Stewart and Blackadder versions.

I just watched Scrooged, the Bill Murray movie, and it was funny. It wasn't A Christmas Carol so much, I wouldn't call it an adaptation, but obviously it kept the themes and it was enjoyable in its own way.
