Anyone have any experience playing as one? Any tips for building one from level one up? Race, deity, domain, etc. I am new to the class and what to sound some people out.

Ahh...good ole 'Talk to the Fist'...
One of the more _intentionally_ humorous, yet effective, builds I've done.

Well, choose your deity VERY carefully.
Inquisitors only get Simple Weapon + Ranged Weapon Proficiencies + their deity's Favored Weapon.
Secondly, you are then restricted to that deity's Domains/Inquisitions.
If you decide to go withOUT a deity, then you can choose any Domain/Inquisition, BUT do NOT get a Weapon Prof.
So choose VERY wisely.
(pssst! see the Domain/Deity guide link in my signature for a quick ref).

Alternately, you may wish to look at the Tengu (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/other-races/featured-races/arg-tengu) as a possible race choice, or any race that gets _actual_ Weapon Profs, and not just "treats as Martial", cause you don't get Martial.

Tengu get ALL Sword Proficiencies. They also get +2 DEX and +2 WIS, both solid, but do take a hit of -2 CON.

Half-Orcs (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/core-races/half-orc) get +2 to Any stat, get Greataxe and Falchion Profs. for free, and have an Alternate Favored Class bonus of +1/2 on Knowledge to Identify creatures, and +1/2 to Intimidate. Combined with the Inquisitors Stern Gaze ability, this is a +1 bonus to Intimidate every level.

Lastly, but not leastly, we have Dwarves (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/core-races/dwarf). VERY nice stats of +2 CON, +2 WIS and -2 CHA. They get free Prof. with Battleaxes, Heavy picks, and Warhammers. And their Alternate Favored Class bonus is increasing their effective level for a Judgement effect by +1/2. This bonus is, of course, best applied to a Judgement that increases every 3 levels, so that it would then increase every 2 levels. Good candidates for this are Damage and Fast Healing.

Other than that, for Melee you'll usually use your Judgement to boost your To-Hit, Damage, AC, or gain Fast Healing (pick 2 after level 8).
Save Bane for the tougher targets.
