Well guys I'm here to pick your brains and see what cool things you can come up with. Cervantes is awesome & so is Jack Sparrow. I'm more interested in what you guys would think to be fun to play. Though I am more found of a Rouge than Bard >.> mostly because I am not sure how to play a Bard.

Well, I guess that depends on the pirate you want to play...

If you're going for Dread Pirate (The Storm Wrack Prestige class), I would assume a fierce Intimidate score. This can be done a number of ways. (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=3809.0)

From there, it's like architecture, you have rules you have to abide by, but how you work within the rules is all up to your imagination. You could go with a Barbarian (an Orc with a festering beard down to his shins, Knocking heads across the gallows, remindin' the boys to watch their keel) or a luck feat saturated Swashbuckler (A gnome whose wit's aren't all there, but his reputation behind him is fearsome enough everyone knows he's got tricks up his sleeves and perhaps his britches too).

Really, you just need to fluff out to your imagination and have fun with cutlass in one hand and crest beneath you hull.

Here is a thread with some interesting takes on Dread Pirate. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190607)

I think a nice, basic Pirate build is the Thug (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#fighterVariantThug) Sneak Attack (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#fighter) Fighter.
4+ skill points, some fairly useful skills, sneak attack and full BAB from the get go. Could work in many groups.

I like some of the stuff I have seen just been out of D&D for a little time now (about 2-3 years) and just got in touch with my old DM (started playing when I was like 17) so I wanted to see what you guys could come up with & a Pirate you guys would enjoy playing.

What would your first mate be
Would you want a companion like a Dragon turtle, maybe something that could fly instead so it isn't stuck when your on land?

My DM would be willing to let the cohort thing slid if I had go reason/logic to it and I can weave a story pretty well its the character building aspect I am more than a tad rusty on.

In general, you just need a build with a decent collection of skills and combat ability, and light armor. And you need to say "arr" a lot.

My pick for some PotC characters:

Jack Sparrow: rogue 1 factotum 3, with font of inspiration x3

Barbosa: ranger 4 with TWF combat style. Favored enemy: humans, and a monkey animal companion

Will Turner: swashbuckler 3 fighter 1. Decent intellect, combat expertise, deadly defense

Norrington: marshal 2 warblade 2. Obvious focus on white raven.

Average sailor is actually kind of hard to stat out....commoner is too weak in combat, and doesn't have the skills. Rogue is far too skillful, and too deadly. Thug fighter probably comes the closest (not sneak attack). Level 1 of course. Ranks in balance, climb, and prof (sailor).

For the sake of the First Mate and such it would happen more so later in the campaign. If I remember correctly the last time I played D&D with this DM he was a fan of late game stuff. Ended the game at like level 31.

May I suggest Zhentarium Fighter 9/Dread Pirate 5? Fill in with whatever else you like. That gives you swift action intimidates, which (due to the DP5 ability) hits everyone in the area. Now throw in Imperious Command so enemies cower when intimidated, and you can stop entire encounters (so long as they're not immune to fear, of course).

Is anything other than Dread Pirate out? Because Scarlet Corsair isn't bad either. For example something like the build below.

Build: Fighter 9 / x 1* / Scarlet Corsair (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20050805b) 10.
Fighter variants: Zhentarim substitution levels (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060327a), Sneak Attack (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#fighter), Physical Prowess (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/cwc/20061013a) (probably Combat Bearing) and either Thug (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#fighterVariantThug) or Hit-and-Run Fighter (from Drow of the Underdark).
*x could be Half-Orc paragon for example which can be combined with the Zhentarim abilities, the Scarlet Corsair's abilities, the Menacing Demeanor feat and various intimidation-related feats. See the Fear Handbook (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=3809.0).
