How does one attain this? I'm playing in a game as a cohort of a dragon, and the game could take centuries. I only have like, ten of those as a dragonwrought kobold.

*Immortality

And Lichdom comes to mind as does becoming an Elan

What system are you playing?

If it's pathfinder, and you can get to level 20 before dying of old age, etheir playing a wizard (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/wizard/archetypes/paizo---wizard-archetypes/arcane-discoveries/immortality) or an alchemist (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/alchemist/discoveries#TOC-Grand-Discoveries)will do.

Of course, this assume you will be able to reach that level in time, and this game sounds rather slow-paced in in-game time compared to most.

My favorite, and probably the least invasive to your character concept, is a spell in BoVD. It's an 8th level sorc/wiz spell of the necromancy school; steal life (IIRC). If cast (possibly from a scroll or other magic device) on an average human commoner on the night of a full moon this spell will allow you to extend your life by about 60 weeks.

Do this once a year and you will -never- die of old age.

It's like taking vitamins, in that you do it periodically for your health, except it involves draining the life out of another creature.

Becoming Necropolitan is easier than becoming a Lich. All you need is to pay 3k plus lose a level and 1k exp. No alignment restrictions.

I'm level 24, so access to spells shouldn't be too hard.

Does your DM allow epic spells? Because you can just make one that extends your lifespan.

immortality handbook (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=1179.0), although I am obligated to note that how wedded to history is supposed to work is unclear, and as written, immortality is not a benefit.

kissed by the ages is probably least intrusive. I'm partial to steal life with a bunch of slowing-aging things, though.

Interesting. That is an excellent guide.

Personally, I allow limited exploitation of the change of type PrC. Anything that makes you undead clearly eliminates the old age problem. Elementals are immune to most everything that should affect living creatures (except negative energy), so I usually allow that they don't die of old age; however, I usually remove the ability to procreate from such transformations (barring magic, obv.), and I could plausibly also impose some of the restrictions that living constructs have for not being biological creatures (maybe you can't drink potions since you no longer need sustenance to survive).

The fey transformation route is more problematic, since fey seem very similar to living creatures, but are highly magical (similar to outsiders). I seem to recall that some fey do have lifespans (maybe I am thinking of something fey-ish from BoEF), but others are specifically noted as not aging/not having maximum lifespan. I try to stick to the ability listed in the PrC that caused the change, but the descriptions are often woefully inadequate to dealing with all the implications of never naturally dying.

As a side note, from personal DM experience, I have found that having some of the characters in a long-running (in-game time) campaign become immortal/effectively immortal while others can't can create significant irl and in-game friction. Ultimately, dealing with this is up to the players, but it is something to consider if you are a DM with players that are looking to go down this road.
