View Full Version : How's that traffic reduction effort working?

Giant/Lilly/etc. have said the SMBG and Town board posts wouldn't contribute to post counts, with the intention of reducing the reward for frequent posting. Also, a 30 second pause has been built in to prevent rapid reposting. I imagine this would have a significant impact in reducing posts/traffic for the board overall. As a lowly poster, I can only speculate, whereas the mods (presumably) have the data.

So - I realize this is only day 2, but how's the traffic looking so far?

VBulletin has some other features that help with traffic as well, such as improved text indexing and thread caching. The GitP team have a lot more options available to them as well. The coding is also designed for massive posting.

The ony thing I'd suggest is updating the templates to only use table for data table elements and implement div tags and CSS for everything else. This will help with load time and data transfer amounts. Small individually, but massive in the long run.

So hey - it's been several days now. Any traffic report available?

I know it's not COMPLETELY what you're asking for, but it's interesting..

Hm. Interesting, yes. Is there a way to expand it? I'd like to see all of 2006, or Oct-present.

Of course, that just gives us the traffic, not the actual effect on the server, right?

Just go here (http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=www.giantitp.com).. You can expand it up to 2 Years.

Gamebird, I'll see if I can get Rawhide or Wampa to look at it for you, since they are more likley to know how to find that sort of stuff.
