Does anyone know any good sources (books or sites) for pictures of armor and shields (historical or fantasy) ?

Osprey Books (http://www.ospreypublishing.com/) is the gold standard for visual references for military gear and uniforms from ancient times through modern warfare. Usually chock full of detailed illustrations.

This is an unusual thread, as it doesn't really belong where I'm about to send it, but I think you'll get more useful replies here.

The royal armouries has one of (if not the) largest collection of arms and armour in the world and an online image collection of about 70000 images:

Also, if your ever in Leeds, London or Portsmouth, all well worth a visit.

If neither of the above links fulfil what you need, you can try asking in the Got a Real World Weapons or Armour Question? (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=255453) thread.

My armoury had collected quite a lot of pictures in "Album", mostly not very well described, but a lot of pictures of historical stuff.
