Just for the record this is not MY problem, but my brother has this problem where all the icons on his desktop are the same, they're all trying to be opened by Notepad. Does anyone know how to fix this? Google has been extremely un-helpful.

And he's using Windows 7 if it matters.

Are the extensions still .lnk or has that changed as well? If it is still the same, Windows 7 probably was told that .lnk's should be opened with notepad. This is probably what you'd need to use to restore the setting (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html).
