For Christmas, i received the revised AD&D 2e players handbook (barbarian smashing a door in), and the regular AD&D 2e DMG (wizard and dragon. i was wondering if they were still compatible, or if there are any problems that could arise and what they might be? I just want to make sure i'm using the right books before i get headlong into it.

They're totally compatible with negligible difference, mostly art etc.

"Notes:

Essentially the same text as 2nd Edition, but with new layout and art.

The PHB 2nd Ed., Revision contains a second "Forward" section by Steve Winter (February 6, 1995), with the words "This is not AD&D 3rd Edition!"
This second "Forward" also states "...changes are the sorts of minor corrections and clarifications we make every time we reprint, and we've reprinted both the Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master Guide more than 10 times since 1989!"

This version has the ISBN number "0-88038-716-513th " listed inside -- presumedly indicating the 13th printing of 0-88038-716-5 (Player's Handbook, 2nd Ed.)

The 1989 version of the AD&D Player's Handbook, 2nd Ed., had 256 pages, the revision (1995) had 320
(64 additional pages, or as S. Winter puts it "Both books are a lot bigger: 25% more pages in the PHB, 33% more in the DMG.")"

yes they are 100% compataibel.. teh onyl differneces are the art work and the arraging of the different sections.

I lost my revised DM guide somehow (still have no idea where or HOW it cmae up missing) so I just used my mage+dragon one for upteen years, never made a difference.

heck I used my 1st ed FIRST edition DMG and not much appens it was actually a bit better in terms since it had bard items and castle construction
rules.

Mainly the typeface was increased in size.

Not true! A fair slander upon TSR, I say!

...a lot of it was extra whitespace.

And remarkably crappier art.

I don't know the Players handbook that matched that release had some fairly nice art in it. I think I gave away my copy of that version of the DMG

It was mostly just an attempt to get more sales money for mostly the same book, different art (some of which isn't very good.)
