Is there any fix for this? It's what, about as powerful as a fighter, if not more (probably more). How can I fix this power?

Consider Wild Cohort (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031118a)

Personally, I like giving it advancement based on familiars. It's still hardier than a wizard's familiar, since druids have better HD, BAB and the like, and the base animal can be stronger, but it's not nearly as overwhelming.

You can use the familiar table directly or you can tweak it; check out what I did for the animal companion on my druid fix (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230514).

I favor the simple solution of simply pushing the animal companions to later levels: At level 1, only small animals are available, at level 4 they get the rest of what was the level 1 list (at a -3 penalty to effective druid level), and every 4 levels after that they get another list. Make non-core companions be allowed only with specific permission, and it should be good (though if you want the fighter to compete he might need some boosts as well...)

Strip it out as they have all this summoning?

I've done this with them (I've also done a lot of other tweaks so bear in mind this change doesn't exist in a vacuum:) Druids get either Wild Shape OR an animal companion OR full casting. If they choose Wild Shape or a companion they cast via the bard's spells per day table.
