can someone confirm how AD&D combat works? The character sheets i got at http://www.dragonsfoot.org/se/ (the ones by "brent") have an Atks column in the weapons section, and i didn't get what that covers. Can someone clarify?

Number of attacks.

Some weapons can be used to attack multiple times per round, such as a bow, throwing daggers or darts. Others, such as a crossbow may need to be reloaded between attacks, which is probably worth noting.

Also, higher level warriors and characters utilising proficiency rules to gain weapon specialisation or weapon expertise, may make more attacks per round with certain weapons.

Sometimes this can be expressed as a fraction such as 3/2, which indicates that the weapon can be used once in one round and twice in the second round.

The rules covering this primarily relate to warriors, except in the case of certain fast ranged weapons.

Exactly what WinWin said. Number of attacks is expressed in a fraction. The first number is how many times you can attack, the second number is the number of rounds.

Thus 2/1 means you can attack twice in one round, where as 1/2 would mean you can only attack once every two rounds.

Table 45 of the PHB shows you how many attacks ranged weapons receive (called ROF for 'rate of fire'). All melee weapons are, at default, 1/1. However, fighters who specialize get a higher ROF, as do fighters of high level. See table 35 of the PHB for details on how level can affect ROF for fighters.

There is also a difference between attacking with one weapon twice and two weapons once each. In the latter case the attacks occur relatively simultaneously, but in the former case the second attack always occurs at the end of the round.
