View Full Version : My cat is dead

My cat is dead. He wasn't eating enough and couldn't pee so I took him to the vet. When they handled him he started peeing blood, so they sedated him and emptied his bladder. Then they found a tumor in his belly. I didn't want to put such an old cat through surgery, so they gave him a lethal injection while he was lying in my lap.

He was a good cat - a little loud, perhaps - and I loved him. And I miss him.

:frown:

I'm so sorry, Asta. My first cat died when I was in highschool; he loved going outside, and that night he'd stayed out all night, and a fox got him. I didn't know until I got home from school, but I got the worst headache I'd even had that day, and so I had to go home early. I still like to think I got that headache because my best friend had just died...

*Hugs*

It's always tough to lose a friend, even if other people would tell you that he was "just an animal." But they're more than that, and we're all here to give you our sympathies...

My sympathies. My persona on here is named partly for a pet who passed on about 12 years ago, and who I still miss intensely and likely always will. I know what you're going through, and yes, they are more than "just" animals, they're some of our most trusting and most accepting comrades in this world. :smallfrown:

I'm really sorry, Asta. I know how much animals can mean to one – I was heartbroken when my cats died. But if you had to put him down, it was probably the best for him and at least you were with him till the end. *hugs*

To your cat (in whatever afterlife he may go) I say:
-
Goodnight, sweet prince. You gave your master great love and joy through your time together, that I can tell from his words for you in this thread alone. He shall most likely never be graced by a being the likes of you ever again, and his life is probably oh so much the lesser without you.
-

Hope you appreciated that; I had to put down one of my own cats earlier this year to a bad tumor in her bladder, so I can relate a bit. :smallfrown:

Indeed, losing a cat is hard.

I remember losing my first two cats when I was in Elementary School.

So far, I've lost a total of four cats

(3 died of illness, 1 went missing)

I feel sorry for your loss Asta.

I know how you feel.... :smallfrown:

I'm sorry :smallfrown:

I had to go through something similar about two years ago.. First my cat got stomach cancer.. My dad put her through surgery. She got better for about a year, but then quickly started getting worse and we literally just watched her wither away.

You have my condolences. I know how it is to lose a pet (dogs mostly, but at least 1 was very special to me and I lost her at the age of 15 while whe was jsut a month shy of becoming 15 years old). And I might lose one of my parent's cats in the near future (chrystalizing in the urinal track). he is my favorite allergymonster :smallfrown:

Long story short, losing a dear pet sucks. A lot. My course of action has always been: 1) get drunk with sympathetic friend, 2) get drunk some more, 3) dredge up old stories about subject's sillyness/awesomness/etc. 4)get roaring drunk to the point where you'll be needing assistance in getting to your bed. 4) thank friends next morging under influence of hangover for helping you to get to your bed (or if that wasn't possible, couch)

I don't drink alcohol, but thanks anyway...

I miss how he used to trot over to the other side of the (very lightly trafficked) road to visit his domains on the other side. He probably had a few friends over there; I wonder if they miss him yet. He looked so determined and so content - "Here I am, and I have a job to do, and I like doing it."

When he happened upon me outside the house he immediately became a two-year old child. He operated on the rubber band principle - move away from Daddy for a few meters, then move back to load up on "safety" when the internal stores ran out...

And then he'd follow me to the store. Looking backwards frequently and meowing disapprovingly when we moved out of his territory. "Here be dragons," he'd say. Or at least other cats. And when I went into the store he'd wait on a bench and then he'd run in front of me back home, tail high and stopping impatiently to wait for his slow, stumbling human to catch up.

Meowing, yes. He meowed frequently and very loudly (I was afraid he'd offend the neighbors but apparently the walls are thick). So he'd meow whenever he came in (he had a cat-flap). And he'd meow whenever he was going to sleep, because he wanted me to come and tuck him in and pet him while he fell asleep.

He was a real personality.

He sounds like an awesome kitty, if slightly noisy.

I had to do something similar to my dog a few years back. She was getting old and started having seizures. One day she couldnt get up. So we carried her to the vet, held her in our arms, and watched her go to sleep for the last time. Then a couple weeks later we lost our cat. Poor thing stopped eating when our dog died. He got really skinny then one day left and never came back. Our dog raised that cat from a kitten, she was his momma.

As for that picture, i love the triple folded blanket. Gotta make sure his highness has a well padded cushion to sleep on.

So... my cousin has two red cats, 3 and 5 year old. And she apparently feels she cannot give them the attention they need. One of them in particular needs a lot of attention.

Since she can't take care of them, she asked if I would and I said yes. Her daughters won't approve but I'm pretty sure she'll overrule them. So somewhere near the end of the month I'll have two cats moving in.

You can have an apartment without cats, you can have a house without cats but you can't have a home without cats.

A truer statement has never been uttered  . And while they'll never replace the one you lost, their love will support you through these troubled times.

I've lost a lot of cats over the years (that's what happens when you live in the woods and have 4-6 at any given time), and even then when you lose the good ones, it still hurts.

Condolences.

EDIT:
****, now my cat died. I live with my grandma, it's the only pet she's owned for 10 years. She just got home from the vet. Cat had a clot in her leg.
