I am looking for some monsters and monsters races that would thrive within the jungles, but as of yet, I could not find anything that specifically say they were of that environment. I had once thought that the thri-kreen would be there but I just checked it out to find those like temperate or warm deserts so I am bones there. Anyone know of any? I am searching to help a friend out there in his campaign. Interesting one, at that

I think jungle is called warm forest in d&d
so basically i would stick monsters that say warm forest and maybe warm marsh and call it a day.

in regards to specific creatures big snakes and yuan ti are always popular.

Environment entries are limited to climate (warm, temperate, or cold), terrain (plains, hills, forests, marshes, mountains, or deserts), and may also mention subterranean or plane of origin. So as awa stated, you want to look for warm forests and marshes.

thank you, now to find a complete monster manual site that will allow searches by environment, specially warm forests and marshes. if anyone happens to know of a reliable one to go to, if one exists, I would be just as grateful, :)

This should get you started.

MM1 - Couatl, Digester, Dinosaurs, Dire Ape, Dire Tiger, Wild Elf, Ettercap, Girallon, Weretiger, Troll Skeleton, Spider Swarm, Yuan-ti, Black Dragon, Hydra, Manticore, Rakshasa, Shocker Lizard, Stirge, Animals
MM2 - Dinosaurs, Forest Giant, Forest Sloth, Needlefolk, Red Sundew, Spellgaunt, Catoblepas, Crimson Death, Darktentacles, Leechwalker, Mudmaw, Swamplight Lynx, Legendary Animals
MM3 - Dinosaurs, Lhosk, Needletooth Swarm, Woodling, Naztharune Rakshasa, Swamp Strider Swarm
MM4 - Briarvex, Demonhive, Sailsnake, Skiurid, Greenspawn, Yuan-ti, Blackspawn, Quanlos
MM5 - Vinespawn, Tirbana, Ushemoi, Fetid Fungi, Greenspawn

Note that between different manuals they changed up the format in which the monsters are presented, so in a couple books they do indeed reference jungle environments.

Stormwrack has the LA0 hadozee, monkey-men. While they are in that book because they swing on rigging, they can only do that because they are good at brachiation through the trees. This gives you a nice choice of race to put whatever character class on.

You might want to think about slapping on the insectile template from Savage Species. Jungles are full of creepy crawly bug things, after all.

This article on the Wotc website may be useful to you as well:

Toxic Paradise: Monsters of the Rainforest (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fw/20030531a)

And you could always check out Into the Green (http://www.bastionpress.com/Products/green.htm) by Bastion Press. Not sure if it actually has monsters, but it's a 3rd party source book on jungles/forests akin to the environmental setting books that Wotc published.

I seem to recall Serpentine posted a long, long list of jungle creatures a while ago. Maybe just a feverish half-memory on my part....

There are also jungle variants of the core races within Unearthed Arcana.

Always wondered why there wasn't a forest terrain supplement to round out the terrain series. Races of the Wild has some stuff, but all heavily stilted to the races it focuses on, and lacking all the expansive terrain rules added in supplements like Frostburn and Sandstorm, which I love. 3.5 added books and books until they almost got to the ones that I was looking for, then they stopped. *sigh*

What you want is the old Crystal Keep's Monster by Environment index.
This listed almost all of the monsters by environment, and then by CR.
Unfortunately it got torn down — and I haven't found a replacement.:smallannoyed:

There's an old series of articles on the Wizard's website that has rainforest/jungle themed monsters, spells and items...

oh, this thread will be a goldmine for me, since I am also at the very moment running an adventure which will play in an amazonas-basin like environment.

I can add a small but challenging monster I homebrewed:

(somewhat lower is a redo of the first draft)

perhaps you like it:smalleek:
