This is somewhat a rehashing/revision of this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=264397), but feel no need to read that. It's a system of dragons based on the classical planets of antiquity.

{table=head]Planet|Associated Element|Breath|Deadly Sin|Color
Sun|Light|Cone of blinding light|Pride|Gold
Moon|Water|Cone of cold|Envy|Silver
Mars|Fire|Cone of fire|Wrath|Red
Mercury|Wind|Cone of acid gas|Greed|Purple
Jupiter|Sky|Line of lightning|Gluttony|Blue
Venus|Plant|Line of acid liquid|Lust|Green
Saturn|Earth|Cone of paralyzing gas|Sloth|Black
Before anyone says anything, the classical planets included the Sun and Moon.

I'll add the actual stats for each dragon as I have the time and inclination.

This new subtype of dragon uses the existing rules for dragons. Treat it as a subheading under “True Dragon,” as a parallel to Chromatic and Metallic. Each of the seven planet dragons corresponds to a single color, element, and deadly sin.

Anyone have comments?

The scales of a Mars dragon wyrmling are dark red, suggestive of its tendency towards self-imposed isolation. As the dragon reaches maturity and becomes more aggressive, its scales brighten and thicken into a glossy scarlet armor that matches its belligerent nature.

A Sun dragon wyrmling has scales the pale yellow-orange of an autumn sunrise, with veins of light gold. As the dragon ages, its scales deepen in hue to a shining metallic gold, and the veins become a dark bronze. Sun dragons have large neck frills and consider their size and proportions an important aspect of beauty; in Sun dragon poetry and religion, their neck frills are often likened to the rays of the sun.

Combat
The one planet dragon that is unambiguously fighting for the side of good, Sun dragons are disliked generally disliked by the others, even those who are not evil, because of what is perceived as a race-level belief in their own physical and spiritual superiority.

Breath Weapon (Su)
A Sun dragon has one type of breath weapon, a cone of blinding light. Creatures within a cone of blinding light must succeed on a Fortitude save or be blinded for 1d6 rounds plus 1 round per age category of the dragon. Creatures who succeed on the save are instead dazzled for the same number of rounds.

Control Light (Ex)
An adult or Sun dragon can use this ability three times per day as the psion/wilder spell of the same name.

Other Spell-Like Abilities
3/day—faerie fire but with golden light (juvenile or older), heal (adult or older), rainbow pattern (old or older); 1/day—sunburst (ancient or older).

Skills
Bluff, Climb, and Heal are considered class skills for Sun dragons.

Combat
Moon dragons tend to be very formal and rule-bound, and are frequently not very understanding of outsiders and their ways, in a tendency sometimes bordering on xenophobia. Despite this, the formality of their culture, in which speaking one’s mind is rare, has produced many great diplomats from the more open-minded among them.

Breath Weapon (Su)
A Moon dragon has one type of breath weapon, a cone of cold.

Water Breathing (Ex)
A Moon dragon can breathe underwater indefinitely and can freely use its breath weapon, spells, and other abilities while submerged.

Create Water (Ex)
A Moon dragon can use this ability as the spell of the same name, once per day per age category.

Other Spell-Like Abilities
3/day—fog cloud (juvenile or older), gust of wind (adult or older), ice storm (ancient or older); 1/day—control water (great wyrm).

By the way, acid "gas" is a cone (green dragon breath weapon), acid "liquid" is a line (black dragon). Difficult to tell them apart otherwise, since they both deal the same damage. :smallconfused:

I think I mixed those up in the table. They're right in the actual stats. Thanks for pointing that out; it's fixed now.

As a suggestion, I would give the two dragons with non-damaging breath weapons an effect on a successful save. Maybe being dazzled or something for the sun dragon, and being slowed for the Saturn dragon, for half the duration each?

Also, being paralyzed for over a minute can be harsh; maybe allow those who failed the Saturn dragon's save can make a new one each round? Otherwise a round of bad saves after one or two breaths could give the dragon the ability to coup de grace at its leisure, resulting in a very unsatisfactory TPK.

Good thoughts. I will make those changes.

Edit: Except the paralysis is how the silver dragon's nondamaging breath works with the saves:

A silver dragon has two types of breath weapon, a cone of cold and a cone of paralyzing gas. Creatures within a cone of paralyzing gas must succeed on a Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 1d6 rounds plus 1 round per age category of the dragon.
I assume it's okay if an actual dragon has a breath weapon like that.

Edit: I'm just going to leave the slowing/blinding the same duration (not half) for ease of memory. It probably doesn't matter too much either way.

Well, these aren't really physically based off the planets. If you go by that logic, the Sun dragon should be way bigger than the rest of them.

Edit: But I see your point. I think I'll change that.

Hmmm, I have one issue I'd like to bring up.
Flying speed: I can believe how a bigger dragon can have more difficulty steering.
Burrowing/Swim speed: I'm having a little bit of trouble with how something bigger still moves the same speed all throughout its life when it can fly faster later on in its life. Can you explain to me the idea behind it?

Sorry I took so long to respond.

I don't know; all the speeds are directly based off the SRD chromatic dragons. I think it's for mechanical reasons.

Must resist Full Metal Alchemist desires. Is the moon dragon incredibly androgynous by dragon standard?

I'm not sure how to make PC races. I mean, I'm giving Level Adjustment for below a certain age, so you could play as a younger one.

But to kind of take a stab, here's a bloodline:

Bloodlines

Dragon, Moon
Though their culture is generally wary of outsiders, moon dragons have occasionally been known to breed with humanoids, sometimes for diplomatic purposes, but also sometimes out of real love. A character with this bloodline will tend to be talented at diplomacy and have a silvery luster to their skin.

Moon Dragon Bloodline Traits
{table=head]Character Level|Minor|Intermediate
2nd|—|+2 on Diplomacy checks
4th|+2 on Diplomacy checks|Alertness
6th|—|Strength +1
8th|Alertness|Resistance to ice 5 (Ex)
10th|—|Moon dragon affinity +21
12th|Strength +1|+1 to natural armor
14th|—|+2 on Bluff checks
16th|Ice resistance 5 (Ex)|Resistance to ice 10 (Ex)
18th|—|Constitution +1
20th|Moon dragon affinity +21|Water breathing (Ex)2
1. You gain the indicated bonus on all Bluff, Diplomacy, Gather Information, Intimidate, and Perform checks made to interact with moon dragons.
2. You can breathe underwater indefinitely and can freely use special abilities while submerged.

*imagine what if the cast of citizens of Silver Millenium is replaced by dragon*

Huh, that actually may makes as an interesting AU for SM.

BTW, the dragons are associated with Deadly Sins, but what about Virtue?

Well, they weren't associated with virtues...

{table=head]Planet|Virtue
Mercury|Prudence (reason/foresight)
Sun|Justice (regulation)
Moon|Restraint/Temperance (resisting impulse)
Mars|Courage/Fortitude
Venus|Love/Charity ("friendship of man")
Jupiter|Hope (expectation/desire, opposite of despair)
Saturn|Faith (resigning oneself to a higher power)
Edit: These are the catholic virtues, by the way. It seemed weird to use the ones that were developed as the opposites of the sins.

I was thinking that if you had Sailor Moon dragons you could have them face mineral-themed crystalline enemies (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=266074) (first season) and then outsiders with a weaponized Deck of Many Things (second season).

I think so as well. This fit rather well.
