GitP PrC Contest XXXVII: Voting Thread!

Alright, a few days late due to illness but back into business we go! It's time for the best of the best of the goody-goodies to rise to the top and for us to decide which one of them it is in PrC Contest XXXVII: Be Good for Goodness Sake! (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=263869)

Voting will open today and go until January 21st at midnight (CST). Make three votes in priority of your favorites and I will rank them accordingly (1st place gets 3 points, 2nd place gets 2 points, and 3rd place gets 1 point). The one at the end with the most points wins. Pick your three once and do not change them please, and if you could, Bold your selections and give a little bit of reason as to why you liked the class.

I have to say, each of the prcs I looked through here had some problems... nothing stood out to me like some of the other contests. But, there were still some gems!

1st - Vibrant One by Hyooz. Most interesting concept, and pretty well executed.

2nd - Crucible by Glimbur. Very cute ability name puns & the little descriptions were hilarious. I have to point out, though, that the ability which makes evil people glow makes you look like an evil person... since you glow as well. Also the third-to-first person switching in the ability writeups drove me bonkers.

3rd - Malefic Sentinel by Vaynor. Interesting concept. I'm not crazy about 15-level prestige classes as a rule... particularly those which give you 5th-level spell slots when you don't know any 5th-level spells. :smallbiggrin: :smallwink:

1st - Shadow Star Infiltrator. I would never allow this class into a serious, gritty campaign, but only because I don't see how it would be possible to conceal good alignment longterm (actions speak volumes) and most people ought to have better things to devote their lives to than pranking fiends anyway. However, I could see this class being pure gold in a beer and pretzels or slapstick game that involves travelling the planes. It also seems pretty well balanced.

2nd - Malefic Sentinel by Vaynor. I've never played or wanted to play a hexblade, but the class seems solid. Ranked it below Shadow Star Infiltrator because of its length and because I just don't like hexblades that much. Incidentally, re: the comment in the vote above, they do get 5th level spells (he may have missed them because they're spoilered).

3rd - Vibrant One by Hyooz. Really liked the flavor. Would have been first or second on my list, but I thought a couple of the abilities needed to be toned down a bit, esp. Guiding Light and Searing Strikes.

Note: I liked Exempted quite a lot. It would have been somewhere on my list above if I could have gotten past the bit where one level in it gives you an effective cleric level of your character level for turning/destroying [Evil] subtyped creatures. Arcane Paladin was one I really wanted to vote for too, except that the Duties seemed either too vague or too inflexible (Compassion would leave you penniless every time the AP visited a city, if adhered to). The flavor text for Crucible was quite amusing.

I was commenting (in a non-serious manner) on the fact that the Spells Known table only goes up to level 4.

Spells Known: A malefic sentinel has access to all paladin spells and learns hexblade spells according to the chart below. In addition to paladin and hexblade spells, the malefic sentinel knows all spells on the malefic sentinel spell list (see below).

But you might have gotten that too. I'm afraid I often miss humor on the Internet that isn't my own.

First vote: Malefic Sentinel. Malefic Sentinel is cool. Kind of a pain to enter, but an interesting idea with useful features and decent fluff.

Second Vote: Vibrant Ones. Vibrant Ones seems to be really powerful... but they also have interesting fluff and it's not the kind of power that breaks campaigns. Usually.

Third Vote: Shadow Star Infliltrator. Shadow Star Infililtrator: Interesting idea, and I like to see skill based PrCs.
