The World: There are two continents, the first of which is predominately dwarves and orcs. The dwarves live together in rather large cities in the northeast. It is fairly cold, but not extremely. Only during the winter does it snow. The terrain there is mountainous and the water there is pure. Clean air and fresh trees dot the landscape. In other words, it is quite beautiful.
Below and to the southeast of this generally dwarven land was the human empires. The land there has a great amount of rivers and extremely fertile land for crops. Unfortunately, the humans never formed a single nation, and as such, there have been many, many wars, ruining the countryside. It is easy to find a piece of armor or a weapon scattered somewhere. It is not too hot and not too cold. The rainfall is enough.
Even further southwest is the jungles. There the great Orcish tribes roaming and living in villages. Their numbers are strong, but their cultural differences prevent them from posing a threat. They are not entirely warlike, but war is part of their culture certainly. It is hot and humid here. This kind of weather breeds many kinds of pests and disease.
As one goes North of the Great Jungle, the jungle trees give way to tall forests, and dense greenery. It is very cold, and legend speaks of an Elf city that once dwelled inside the heart of this forest.
Between the Plavat Forest and the Great Jungle is an enormous lake. It is uncannily clear and thus has earned itself the name of the Crystal Lake. Many people made pilgrimages here, before the roads became to dangerous to travel there. It is a place of extraordinary beauty.
Between the Plavat Forest and the Dwarven Kingdoms is the Gulf of Nashi Okkar. Over this Gulf floats the great city of Epistimi. Many great scholars come here to learn from the teachers that live there.
The sun is extremely hot in this world. Most people operate under the dark of night. The day can be treacherous. Epistimi is famous for its sunlotion. Unfortunately, trade has become difficult under recent years.

Magic: The first and foremost thing about magic in this world is that it draws on the energy of something. Wizards provide energy for their own spells, as do sorcerors and swordmages. Warlocks draw energy from their pact. But, there are those who do not use energy from themselves. These are the Defilers. Magicians who devastate the landscape by drawing energy from it. Their spells are more powerful, but they are hated by nigh all. Though there are few Defilers, their mark in history has many people in this world to be against Arcane magic in general. In particular to this regard are the Orcs. Divine magic is something to behold and the public loves it. It is considered a great honor to have a cleric or such to be in a family. Religion is incredibly important to those in this world. Psionics are rare, but those who have had the ability to use it have almost always been remembered as a Hero or a Tyrant. Primal magic is not quite as rare as psionics but the publics regard for it is similar to that of Divine. The general populace of the Dwarven Kingdoms do not recognize it.

Recent History: As always, disputes over land and resources left the human nations constantly devastated. The dead were uncountable, yet no other nation tried to create a peace. The orcs had their own problems and the Dwarven king had long gone lazy. This would inevitably lead to the problem. Once upon a time, a boy named Ah'Tery Mahats'ats was born with the uncanny ability to use magic in ways that few could match. He was gifted enough that he was sent to Epistimi to study the ways of the arcane, but more importantly how to use it responsibly. In fact, nearly all of his city was scared of him. Those who crossed him disappeared. At the City of Scholars, he quickly absorbed the information, but it was not enough. Searching for the ability to use more powerful magicks, he dabbled into Evocation, Illusion, Necromancy... He began to defile. Slowly at first, but he began to use it nonstop. When he returned to his city, he was mad with power. Now, the human nations are no more. And the dwarven kingdoms struggle to survive the perpetual Undead Invasion.

Races: Humans: When the human nations fell, they evacuated mostly to the Dwarves. The humans had been in constantly switching wars, but now they are beginning to bond as a race. They are power-hungry, and the most easily corrupted of races. They are the third most populous race on the continent.
Elves: The elves have not been seen for the longest time. Recently, even the scholars at Epistimi have left. Their location is unknown, but nigh everyone still believes in the old folklegend of the hidden city of the Elves.
Dwarves: The most influential race in this continent, the dwarves are the most prosperous and militarily strong race. They have a deep love of Divine magic, but a bit of conptemt for the Arcane.
Gnomes: There are very few gnomes, and most of them live in the city of Epistimi. They are renowned for having great senses of humor.
Halflings: Stereotyped as thieves, the Halflings are fairly successful dwelling, generally, in larger cities. Halflings are among the most educated races.
Orcs: Less warlike than in tale, the Orcs are a brutish race of greenskins. They enjoyed physical challenges far more than any other contest, yet they are still familiar in most basic sciences. They have a deep connection with nature, and, because Defiling destroys nature, they, too, have a deep hate of Arcane.

More about the World: Terrifying monsters are real, but are rare. So rare in fact that many believe that some are merely legends. There are other tribes and many citadels and strongholds in the world, though they are undiscovered.
A long time ago, there was plenty of trade beween the different nations, but hostilities broke out. The orcs invaded the human empires, and the humans set aside their differences to defend their people and their way of life. The Elves banded with the Orcs, and the Dwarves with the humans. After a long brutal war, the humans managed to push the orcs out, though invading the orcs in their homeland would have been suicidal. After the war, the people of the world became suspicious and careful with the other nations. Then, the elves went, inexplicably, into hiding. The orcs couldn't solve their own differences. And now, the humans are nigh all undead. The Dwarves now face this Undead threat by themselves
The entirety of the continent is mapped out, and there are roads that lead from one kingdom to the next. But, years have been since roads have repaired and no country knows what is like beyond the sea.
Gods and Primordials did indeed create the world. The primordials fought a great long battle with the gods before losing. In the beginning times, the gods worked alongisde the sentient races to improve their livelihood, but have long sinced disappeared. Little to no contact with these great divine beings have occured since.

Rikgruve
Richest of the Dwarven Cities, the symbol and hope of the Dwarven's survival.
A long, long time ago, the dwarves inhabited the Smultin Mountains. They found it was full of riches. Diamonds, silvers, it was a mystical place. The dwarves hollowed out this mountain, and made their home there. The town grew rapidly and it soon became an image of Dwarven power. Parents would often send their disbehaving child there to mine out some precious stone to please the parents. The town quickly became a city, and the people became wealthy from trade.

Now, the population of Rikgruve is still high, though there are far less than it used to be. Much of the people are now trained to use weaponry, and even the elderly and children can use a spear or a crossbow. This city has a large standing military, though the military personnel all have their own professions, generally as craftsmen for weaponry or armor.
Rikgruve is built into a mountain looking over a small lake. This small lake hooks into a river that runs to the ocean. It provides freshwater for the people of the city. At the base of the mountain are great fields of grain, and windmills for grinding the grain. Outposts dot the land, watching always for the Undead.
Small villages, mostly of farmers adorn the countryside. Deeply religious, these farmers send works of cloth, bread, fish, and other goods in return for gems, rare trinkets, and magical items. These villages are nearly all run by a Village elder, and these villages are not taxed. Instead, the people send gifts to the city of Rikgruve for thanks of being protected.
In Rikgruve, there were several taverns for travelers. But, because the lack of foreigners, and people from other nations desiring to see the Smultin mountains, only a few taverns remain. Weapons and armor are readily available as are fine cloths and alchemical ingredients. Food is plentiful... to most.
Religion is of key importance in this city. The three key temples are Pelor, Kord, and most importantly Moradin. Pelor is occasionally prayed to. In times of famine, praying raised the morale of the city, and there are always faithful that pray for a calmer sun. Kord has recently become more revered as battle occurs more often. Moradin holds the heart of these dwarves and the church is by far the most extensive. The people love, fear this god, especially in the villages. Great statues of him are in town centers and some of the greatest works of Dwarven art are inspired by him.
The cities military, while large, is not a police force. The people are expected to be Good and to work together for the survival of the city. Despite this, word of an underground Tiamat-worshipping society has reached the ears of the city's ruler.
The nobles of the city are mostly non-corrupt. They are fair and just. There are several dukes, and no king. Instead, there is an, elected by the nobles, leader once every three years. The ruler hasn't a great deal of power, but his thoughts are of great worth to the people and to the council of nobles.
Traveling merchants roam the Dwarven countryside, braving undead and bandits to make riches. Fewer and fewer of these people travel.
There are Guilds and groups of like-minded people, but they are usually secretive and open only by invitation.
More specific details of Rikgruve. The Rat Bunk: An ancient tavern for those new to Rikgruve. Situated extremely close to the main gate, it offers exotic drinks native to Rikgruve. A bit decrepit, the Rat Bunk is not extremely unclean. The seats however are old, and it's not extremely comfortable.

Motdoden: Located near the entrance into the middle city, it is the training grounds for some of the finest soldiers the Dwarves have to offer. Unfortunately, it is overshadowed by Nordblad in Flateby, the dwarven capital. Recently, posters all over town have been put up requesting for people to come to fight for the Dwarven cause.

As you walk up the mountain into the city, you look up and the spectacle in something to see. The city is carved into the side of the mountain itself. As you reach the top, you see a tall wall. The wall is purely stone, and is not made of bricks. Instead, you see that it is masterfully part of the mountain itself. The top of the wall is old, and there is the occasional crack here and there on the wall, but otherwise it looks strong. Two guards stand in front of the wall. Their gruff dwarven faces squint, looking at you carefully.
"Halt, please let our cleric search you."
Another dwarf leaves a small shack built of wood in front of the wall. His robes brush against the ground as he walks, slowly. When he is front of you, he touches you with his hammer, and a tingling sensation runs through your body. You notice that you are slightly glowing.
"Enter Rikgruve."
The Dwarves smile and pat you on the back as they open the Great Gates of Varfar.

Walking past the wall, you widen your eyes as you gaze upon one of the few great cities of your world. Great pillars, huge buildings face each other. The cobblestone ground is rough, but good for walking. Many people brush past each other as they work for their next payment. You turn to the right and you see a regiment of Dwarves training their axes and warhammers on cloth dummies. Market stalls, especially of fresh fruit, vegetables are visited by the young and elder alike. Interestingly, you see a market with so many different kinds of mushrooms it is breathtaking. Looking down the street, you see another fortification. It is a bit dark, but there many streetlights and lanterns bristling with flames.
It is city of wonder, and for a second you are overwhelmed.
What were you going to do?

Bael'Meron slipped out of his reverie after a moment of wide-eyed wonder at the sight of the city. He could spend all day looking at the beautiful city, but he had important matters to attend to, and he didn't have all day if he wanted to be back home before sunset. He whistled to Buggy, his owlbeast, who was busily harassing a pack of rats near the gate. At his command, the fey creature bounded to his side and they set off farther into the city.

He made his first stop at the city's bookstore to sell the book he had already read and studied and buy some more. His constant purchase of such odd books alarmed the store's owners, but in times like these you took what money you could, even if it did come from a suspicious tiefling with an unusual interest in heretical books. Silver is silver, after all.

Next, he took a quick stop by the market to purchase food and clothing for the coming months. Bael'Meron provided for most of his own needs, but recently undead had begun to encroach on his land. They were quickly and easily dealt with (except for the occasional zombified dwarven soldier), but they usually left a trail of death in their wake, resulting in the decimation of his livestock. So, he had stockpiled what remaining crops and meat he had, and was subsisting solely on food from the city while he waited for one last crop to come in to last him the rest of the year. Then, he could barricade his house and hole up for the winter.

Bael'Meron frowned. The best laid schemes of mice and men..., he thought. His crops would not be ready for a while still, and in that time any number of things could happen; a full-on undead invasion of the dwarven kingdoms, a chance encounter with an undead creature stronger than himself, or an organized assault on his form before he was ready. Any of those things would be the end of him, short of some massive stroke of luck.

"Best not worry about things out of my control, eh, Buggy?" Bael'Meron said as he scratched above the owlbeast's beak. The creature's only response was to purr in pleasure.

His chores complete, Bael'Meron determined that he had enough coin left to enjoy some drinks in a tavern, which he happily set off to do. He entered the first one he came across, an establishment called "The Rat Bunk". He sat down at the bar and sighed contentedly before ordering a plain beer.

Wakaha doesn't like large cities. Full of people. People who point and laugh, or speak poison to their companions. People who hate. Nature spirits are much nicer company. His spirit companion, Cheytan, is here, but does not make himself manifest; he doesn't like people either. But the stars, the ripples, the smoke, the tree bark, all say that Wakaha should be here today. Maybe he will see friends. Maybe he will not have to outrun the stones as he leaves this time. Wakaha examines the many mushrooms at a stall. Listens to their stories. They have nothing to say today.

As he prepares to enter the city, a ray of sunshine glistens off of Jechtt's silver-white fur. His grey eyes scan for a certain something.
Up ahead, he saw just what he was looking for - a dwarf with a large group of hounds, hollering and shouting charismatically at the other dwarves entering the city. The dwarf seemed rather happy and talkative with the others around him.
Jechtt quickly slinked through the crowd of dwarves and into the pack of dogs. As far as he was concerned, he was invisible.
"Eh! These 're my dogs!" shouted the dwarf, speaking highly of his pack to another dwarf as he entered Rikgruve's gates.
"These one's 're Slink, Gup, Fret..."
The hounds were pointed to affectionately, one by one, moving his gaze from one side of the pack to the other.
"Focus. Move. Focus."
Failed.
"This one's new."
Jechtt whimpered, and gazed up into the dwarf's eyes. Slowly and precisely, he tilted his head to the side. Humanoids love this garbage.
"Aww. This one's Flum. 'E's a cutie."
After the hearty, loving (and possibly drunk) dwarf passed through the gates, Jechtt slipped away from the pack. His next task became to find food, and shelter. Trying to find said supplies without breaking the cover of being a stray dog was, of course, difficult.
Best thing now was to wait. The other half of his two-dog pack should be on his way... Provided he made it in safely.

Elim slipped in the gates just after Jechtt, slightly more conspicuous due to his weapons and armor, which he had strapped to his back for the time being so that he could walk on all fours. Of course, this did little to make him blend into the crowd, as corgis are not traditionally used to carry loads, much less armaments.
After a moment, he caught up with his packmate, and barked a quick hello.

Alan_Pehnereas
2013-01-20, 08:52 PM
Seeing Elim, Jechtt turned toward his friend and packmate.
"I'm glad you got in," spoke Jechtt in a series of canine whimpers and gruffles, trying quite cautiously appear like any normal stray.
"No one caught on?"

sournote103
2013-01-20, 08:57 PM
"Not as far as I can tell," replied Elim. "I didn't see anyone notice me, at least. Well, people, you know, saw me, but... You know what I mean; I don't think anyone really paid much attention to me, is the point."

Alan_Pehnereas
2013-01-20, 09:06 PM
Jechtt stared at Elim for a few second before giving a small grin and chuckle.
"We should probably see about this 'hero' thing soon."
The worg point with his nose toward a poster on the side of a brick building. The poster was white and plain, with thick black lettering that read short, sweet, and to the point;

Hero's needed!
Tired of the undead?
So are we!
If you got what it takes, head to Motdoden.

"I'd rather hit up the tavern or marketplace first."

sournote103
2013-01-20, 09:09 PM
"Yeah, that makes sense. Um... I guess maybe we should go to the tavern first? I'm kind of hungry. But if you think we should go to the marketplace first, we can do that."

Alan_Pehnereas
2013-01-20, 09:19 PM
"Tavern it is."
Without another word, Jechtt turned and started walking down the city streets. Dwarves bustled through the city. Some were fatter, some slightly more slender. Others had large, black or grey beards, while some had slightly smaller brown or red beards - small for a dwarf, anyway.
"Focus... Move." Jechtt spoke under his breath.
The buildings were of stone. The entire city felt like it was stone. Maybe that was just perspective, though. Maybe this and...
"The Rat Bunk."

"Sure."
Jechtt walks in the bar.
"If you want something, you'll have to get it. I don't feel like stealing, and I don't wanna make myself known," speaks Jechtt in his native canine tongue.

Dwarves, orks, humans. They're no different. They're all the same. Everyone makes their own judgement. Everyone takes for themselves. Everyone makes claim on everything, everywhere, and everyone else.

But what is secret can't be taken.

Unused to dealing with Dwarves, Elim uncertainly walked up to the bar, now standing on his hind legs. Straining to see over the counter to deal with the vendors, he said, now speaking in the Common tongue rather than by barking, as he had been before, "Um... Could I please get something to eat? Thanks." With that, he uncertainly placed a few coins on the counter.

Jechtt stays outside the bar, peering in. Elim may be more friendly with humanoid-folk, but they're trouble. And if that trouble passes to Elim, it will in turn pass to Jechtt, who of course wouldn't leave Elim.
"How bad can a dwarven bar be? I'm sure they've heard talking dogs before... Wasn't this place magical or something?"
Protection of the pack comes before logic.
Jechtt walks into the bar, hops on a stool next to Elim, and peers into the dwarf bartender's eyes.
"What you got?" spoke Jechtt in his best dwarven.

Jechtt keeps his eye on the bar. All dwarves. Nothing but dwarves. Every single -

Buggy was lying on the ground next to Bael'Meron's seat as his master drank. This did not make him happy. He hated the stench of dwarf in such close quarters; to pungent to his sensitive nostrils. But he would deal with it, if his master desired it.

He lifted his head up as the door opened, admitting another pair of...

Buggy leapt to his feet. Those weren't dwarves! He bounded towards the sound, making a sound similar to both a hoot and a growl. As Buggy got in range, he jumped, leaping towards one of the dogs (Elim) in an awkward tackle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bael'Meron looked up as he heard Buggy bound off towards the front of the bar and begin to make excited sounds. As the owlbeast leapt, Bael'Meron hurriedly extricated himself from his seat and began to rush towards Buggy to stop him from harming someone on accident, or on purpose.

"BUGGY! DOWN, BOY!" He roared.

Jechtt leapt from the counter toward the owlbear, knocking him off of Elim. Growling menacingly, he bears his claws and fangs.

Buggy cocked his head curiously at the new dog as it spoke to him in the language of his master. He could understand the dog's words just about as well as Bael'Meron's; that is to say, not at all. Deciding that the new dog seemed more interesting to play with, he sank back on his haunches, preparing to leap...

And Bael'Meron closed the distance, and began to whack the owlbeast across the nose. "No, bad Buggy, get down!" He shouted as he whacked away. The owlbeast shrank away in the face of Bael'Meron's onslaught and eventually turned tail and ran, running around his master to hide near Bael'Meron's seat.

Bael'Meron shook his head in annoyance. "Sometimes I wonder why I keep that thing around." He knelt down to get closer to Emil's level. "You alright little doggy?" He scratched its head as he looked it over for injuries.

Jechtt looks over at the tiefling, and begins to speak.
"I have no quarrel with a demon. Who sent you?"
As always, he would have to be quick to assume the worst case scenario - this demon must be working for the orks. He and Elim meant nothing but war dogs to them.
As Bael'Meron moved toward Elim, Jechtt stayed back and growled deeply and loudly.
Focus. Move... Move...
Jechtt kept guard as the tiefling moved closer to Elim.
Move. Focus... Move...
The tiefling didn't seem to be hostile in his stride toward the corgi, but Jechtt still felt the need to keep on the defense.

Bael'Meron looked up in surprise as the other dog spoke. He looked at it wearily, unsure of the appropriate response for a situation like this. He wondered if he had been communing with the Feywild to much recently.

"Er... Who sent me? That would be myself. I'm here in Rikgruve on errands." Bael'Meron paused for a second. "By the way... are you really talking? Or am I making myself look like a fool in front of all these dwarves for nothing?" After determining the corgi uninjured, he stood, giving the speaking animal his full attention.

Jechtt grinned slightly, and began to bark and growl. His stance was both slightly defensive, but also somewhat playful. This demon meant no harm. However, he needed to keep his yap shut. Outbursts like that shouldn't be happening if he and Elim were to keep a low profile.

Elim stared up at the owlbeast fearfully. After seeing the Tiefling restrain it, he intellectually knew he was in no real danger, but he could not help but cower some in the presence of the much larger creature. Without really consciously thinking about what he was doing, Elim began to inch slowly toward Jechtt before turning the majority of his attention on the Tiefling- though he still kept on eye on the Tiefling's pet.

"I apologize for my owlbeast... He's still young, a juvenile really. Being pent up inside for the past months has not done him any good, as you surely saw. Probably wanted to play." He looked over towards the owlbeast sympathetically.

"Anyway, what brings two talking dogs to Rikgruve?"

I suppose I owe you two something for your trouble. How about we take a seat, and I get you... something. Do dogs drink?"

Bael'Meron laughed, amused at the thought, as he took a seat at an unoccupied table and beckoned for the canines to join him. "Do not fear, Buggy will not be joining us for this meal. He's been bad." Jechtt stopped mid sentence. A wild looking man began rapping on the demons horns with some sort of carved staff.

What the *gruffle?*

Bael'Meron looked over to the table's newest arrival. He looked at the man with interest, surprised by his curious question, and proper naming of Buggy's species. Bael'Meron gave the man a charming smile and nodded as he looked over towards Buggy, who was beginning to make his way through the crowd, back to Bael'Meron's side.

"Why, yes. The owlbeast is mine; Buggy, I call him." The fey creature finished his trek and nudged up against the stranger's leg, making a hooting noise. "I hope you're an animal person. Buggy can be rather... persistent." He chuckled as the owlbeast began to lightly peck at the stranger's leg, hooting all the while.

"An animal person. Hrm. You might say that. Heheh"

Wakaha strokes the feathers of the owlbear.

"This is a beautiful creature. So where are we going?"

Jechtt looks back up at the barmaid, who still was staring at the worg;

"You gettin' my food, bitch?"

Of course, to a canine, this term had a very different connotation.

Looking back at the demon, Jechtt spoke;

"They call me Jechtt, and this guy - " gesturing toward his corgi friend "- is Elim. What'd your people name you?"

He didn't speak concerning the furry human. Obviously, the he and the demon were friends.

Bael'Meron cocked his head at the strange man. "Where are we going? What do you mean?" He leaned back in his chair dangerously as he regarded the man. "How about you sit down and have a drink with my... companions and I?" He smiled charmingly at the man, and beckoned towards an empty seat near his own.

The barmaid came back by, depositing the ordered drink and the food. Bael'Meron turned his smile towards her, tipping his head in thanks. His chair smacked back down to the ground, and he rifled in his pockets for a few coins. He produced a few pieces of copper and slid them towards the barmaid, who smiled, took the coins, and left.

Wakaha makes a face. He doesn't understand why the tiefling doesn't know what he's talking about.

"The spirits said a bird, a bear and a goat would guide my way. "

Wakaha knocks the Tiefling on the horns once more. He seems to have fallen asleep. Wakaha turns to the others.

"What about you, dog? Do you know where we're going? The spirits told me about a dog too."

Jechtt looks at the furry man.

"Motdoden."

The worg and man stare at each other for a few minutes.

"Let's go. Bitch forgot my food."

"Good. Lead on."

Wakaha doesn't trust strangers, but he does trust spirits. The spirits had never let Wakaha down yet.

The worg and furry man leave the pub and set on their adventure, and assume the corgi and demon will be right behind.

"So... What else did the spirits tell you?"

Finishing up his meal, Elim followed closely behind Jechtt, paying close attention to the stranger with whom Jechtt was conversing.

Wakaha knocks the the dog-man in the head with his staff and scolds him.

"The spirits tell me what they want my ears to hear. If they want you to know, they will tell you."

Jechtt gruffled; "Sprits speak to you, but souls speak to me."

"Elim... Do you have everything you need?" Truth be told, he knew Elim was prepared, but felt the need to 'check up' on him. In his eyes, Elim was his entire pack.

"Yeah, I think so," replied Elim. "You have everything, too, right?"

Dwarf bitch forgot my food, but that's okay. I don't want that crap anyway." Jechtt gruffled this out of bitterness for not getting his snack.

Bael'Meron quickly finished up his meal and hurriedly stood, thanking the waiter and leaving a gracious tip behind before whistling to Buggy and striding out, eyes scanning the area as he searched for the two dogs and human. He caught side of them and broke into a light job to catch up.

"Hey!" He puffed. "Wait for me." He grinned at the three as he caught up. "So, where are we headed exactly?" He scratched Buggy's head as he looked around at the group, bemused.

Quiet feet tapping on the ground. A single snowflake drops in front of Bael'Meron before he felt a small bump. A man quickly lowered his visor over his eyes. He looked down before he continued walking.
"Sorry"
He kept walking, before he dropped Bael'Meron's rod. Shocked, he begins to run off.

Bael'Meron looked at the ground, and then at the now running man. Understanding dawned in his eyes. There was a brief flash of anger in his eyes, and Buggy snarled before bounding off in the direction of the thief. Bael'Meron turned to the other three.

"Come on, let's stop that thief! Who knows what other things he may have taken!" He turned and ran off, following behind Buggy.
