It just came to my attention that WotC officially backported the concept of 4E's Epic Destinies to D&D 3.5 (http://web.archive.org/web/20090602124646/http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drfe/20080428&pf=true).

They seem quite fun, and fitting for an epic campaign. It sounds like an awesome prospect to play an Epic Artificer with access to the Artifact Lord destiny, for example! Not only that, but these epic destinies can apparently provide a satisfying end to an epic campaign, a way for your character to really endure in the world and become the stuff of legends.

So, what do you think of those? Has anyone played with them? If so, share your experiences with us!

Ah, yes, this has been around for awhile. I remember people talking about immortality, and how death was one of the least things epic monsters can do to you.

For myself, I don't think I'd enjoy giving up the versatility of feat choices for them (by which I mostly mean waiting to get Epic Spellcasting until level 33, but also potentially other feats), except maybe that getting a 20 on every UMD check as an artificer.

IMHO:
-Blade of Ragnarok seems pathetic, since it only deals with HP damage (And not well at that, Eternal Hero does it better).
-Demigod's at-will restoration looks nice, as well as becoming a minor deity for the win.
-At least Mythic Shadow provides a way for rogues to deal consistent sneak attacks, although if they've gotten to this point they probably can anyway. And the level 30 ability solves the "storm of misses" problem for them (except against creatures with huge insight, luck and deflection bonuses to AC).

On a side note, Immortality of Metal and Stone is funny, it makes me think of the Pharoah and Bakura from Yugioh

Ah, indeed, it does take away your feat slots (though some would say that not having access to Epic Spellcasting until level 33 is actually a good thing ). I guess it would be nice to give those destinies in addition to feats, and not in place of. Or at least being able to undertake such destinies whenever you feel like it (i.e.: first feature @24 instead of @21).

Anyways, indeed, Blade of Ragnarok is pretty bad. You'd think that, after 8 years developing the game, they would understand what's wrong about mundane melee classes! :smalltongue: It is, at most, an interesting starting point for a homebrew destiny, I guess.

The other destinies sound pretty neat, however!

Generally, if the entire party is taking epic destinies, we try to convince our DM to let us get the normal epic feats as well.
