I'm currently playing a solo charactor, until I can find a group to play with locally. I'm checking out the Cleric/Necro builds.
I would eventually like my Cleric to become a Lich when he get's to a high enough level. I'm thinking about going with the Necropolitan template until I decide to become a Lich. I know I'll need Craft Wonderous Item later on.

I've been messing around with the Planning and Undeath Domains.
My Feats are:
Extend Spell (Planning)
Extra Turning (Undeath)
Persistant Spell
Divine Metamagic
Corpsecrafter

I'm just basically asking for suggestions on what class of charactor would mesh well with my Cleric. I was thinking of some type of Wizard, so I can cast Permanency on some personal spells and "surprises" for those who enter my Keep without being invited. Can a Dread Neco cast Permanency, Fireball and other nuking spells or do they just stick to the "raise dead" thing? I don't want my cohort and my PC to be redundant.

Anyway, as you can see... I'm going in many different directions and can't decide which way to go.

Also, I just finished the solo "Clerics Challenge" and at the end it says the town of Pommeville will give me a "substantial" reward for saving their town. What would be a substantial reward for a lvl 8 evil cleric/necro PC? I could give myself anything but I'm trying to keep it as fair as possible.

Thanks.

Just thought that I should add that I've also considered... Archivist, Artificer and some form of Warrior, maybe a Bone Knight or something along those lines.

Dread Necromancers don't have permanency. In general, they wouldn't work that well with you. Wizards, of course, can do so. Necropolitan Wizard (one you turn yourself) might make a lot of sense, and if he's a UA Variant Necromancer he can make you a Necropolitan better than other folks can.

By the way, have you seen the Walker in the Waste PrC? It's perfect for a Cleric who wants to become a lich.

No I have not seen the Walker in the Waste PrC.. I'll check into it. I assume that you suggest it because it would be a better choice than the Necropolitan template?

I figured that a Dread Necro would conflict with my Cleric... seems that we would be fighting over corpses.. lol.

What's a "UA Variant Necromancer"? I just recently got back into D&D, haven't played in about 10 years. Also, just so Im sure, when someone mentions a classes "LA"... are they talking about Level Advancement? Because I know that once I do turn into a Lich, there is no Level Advancement after that. I ordered the Complete Guide to Liches and it should be here soon, perhaps it will answer most of my questions.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was leaning Wizard, just wasn't sure how to go about it.

I just took a quick look at the PrC you suggested and I don't think I'll be able to do it. It requires that you can cast 3 spells from the Sand or Thirst domain.. I have neither domain.

It's a Cleric PrC that, in 10 levels, turns you into a Dry Lich. It's like a regular Lich, only better. And there's no LA associated with it.

Yes, that could be an issue, but they do make better undead and can have a TON more with Animate Dead than you ever could. Still, I think Wizards are better for this.

What's a "UA Variant Necromancer"?

Unearthed Arcana has variants for the various specialized Wizards. A UA Necromancer can trade his bonus spells for being a specialist and his familiar for an enhanced human skeleton pet and a bonus that buffs all undead he makes permanently (+4 Enhancement bonus to Str and Dex, +2HP/HD, the same as Corpse Crafter but the hit points stack).

Complete Guide to Liches? Never heard of it. But LA does control how much experience you gain and things like that. Also, with Walker in the Waste, you could be a Lich by I think level 16.

You don't need the domain, just the ability to cast those spells. Many are already on the Cleric list.

I found the UA Necro variants, mainly the Enhanced Undead variant you spoke about.
Since I'm going Walker now, instead of a Necropolitan (I obviously won't need the UA Necro cohort)... what Cohort would you suggest now? Any class type that would be beneficial to a Dry Lich?

I was looking at the Phylactery of Undead Turning ... is this only for Turning or could an evil cleric use it for rebuking or controlling undead?

OK, just a follow up on this topic.
I'm now Cleric/8 Sovereign Speaker/3... will probably take 1 or 2 more levels in SS, I'm wanting the domain power from the Lust Domain, it will help me to be able to Persist another spell.

As far as my Cohort... I was looking at making/attracting a Mystic Theurge. I have read through this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=247259) guidebook but not everything makes sense to me.

I was looking through the builds section of the guide and came across The Mad Tyrant.. UA Conjurer/9 Ur-Priest/2 Mystic Theurge/9 ... what are the advantages to this build/ what does it excel at?

I'll probably wait until lvl 12 to get my cohort.. what would that build look like at level 10? Any specific feats I'll want or optimization suggestions?
