You know, there comes a point where you realize "Hey, in a year or so, I won't ever have to listen to this dumb meme again. The ADD riddle public will get tired of this key-jingling, and crawl off somewhere else. Meanwhile, I can enjoy my video games. They are mostly safe from these."

Then Blizzard added 3 Gangam Style dances to Starcraft 2. I hope you realize what you just did. We all knew this was going to never show up again in a year. At least, we thought we did.

They did it. They immortalized this in the worst way. Ten years from now, this will still be in the game, and we will hang our heads in shame.

What next? Will I be having to listen to cats scream "CAN I HAZ CHEESEBURGER??!" in Dark Souls 2?

Good lord, its not THAT bad. Its a freaking song and an easy as hell dance, not some sort of inescapable proof of a modern day Holocaust.

It's a Korean song in Starcraft.

Loosen up, dude.

Huh? Where does SC2 have gangnam dances?

And honestly, what are you going to focus on? Micro, macro, decisions, or some silly dance that you don't have time to watch?

This Gangnam dance is the equivalent of a Protoss Scout, it's a waste of time and you only get to see it on some numerous occasions and its appearance tends to be amusing.

Unless someone invents Gangnam Stove, you won't ever have to see this.

Gangnam dances? You see, it's fine.

So Gangnam Style /dance Immortals into a DT rush followed shortly by a Mothership = Gangnam Stove? Works for me.

They're mostly optional, right? Plus, I think it would be rather amusing to watch dozens of Zerg doing the dance at the same time. Maybe that's me.

Anyone have a link to Starcraft 2 doing the dance?
I've only seen official video.

Blizzard adds pop culture references and internet memes to their game? Wow, that never happened before! Ever!

I don't mind Gangnam Style. It's a fun song that doesn't make me want to turn off the radio, which is more than can be said about most pop music these days.

You're not alone. I still like it. I thought it was hilarious when the local media tried to do things with it. They did such a bad job, and you could tell it wasn't intentional parody, but just they they were so clueless. The evening news anchors. [/Facepalm, BWAhahahahha!]

I've seen this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_34Z0j4K_Q) video. If you mean an actual game, I'm not sure if it's already been added or if it's going to be added in an upcoming patch.

All in all, it seems pretty fun.

Huh? Where does SC2 have gangnam dances?

HuskyStarcraft uploaded a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_34Z0j4K_Q) announcing the winners from the "put your dance into the game competition" Blizzard held a while ago, which also included some end footage of a Marauder, and Immortal, and a Queen doing dance moves from Gangnam Style. However, it's probably not going to be implemented for a while, seeing as they still are working out some balance changes.

As to the topic at hand, I don't think its a bad idea. Sure, it's riding on the back of the popularity of the original song, but Starcraft is filled to the brim with pop culture references which don't really change anything in the game. Just listen to the "annoyed" quotes for most of the units, there's very few that aren't references to some greater body of fiction.

Oh, that's fun. I can see how if you treat StarCraft 2 as srs bzns you might be annoyed by that. I see it as something that could potentially be used as an insult to other players: 'Look, you suck so bad, all my units have time to dance while you flounder around.' Alternatively, "You're toast. And now, for the victory dance!"

*I do not actually play StarCraft 2 and have no idea what's normal/good/A-hat behavior for the game and the players.*

Which would make sense, except many units already have a dance, the developers just decided to add some new ones.

The Thor does the Robot, Hydralisks dance to Thriller, Zerglings breakdance, and Marines do the moonwalk.

It's more likely to be immortalized as that dance people do at weddings for largely no reason. Like the chicken dance and the macarena. In fact I've heard several radio stations already refer to it as this generation's macarena.

Oh well. If you don't like it, don't listen to it and don't click on videos on youtube/facebook with anything to do with the word gangyam in the title. It is pretty easy to avoid the song if you don't want to hear it. It's not like the song itself is in the game.

That was awesome, thank you.

There should be, like, a collection of Gangnam Style parodies or something. But only the good ones.

Eh, I actually like the song. For me, it's not even a meme, it's just a good song people like to parody (and that's fitting, since PSY is a comedian). Actually, it can be viewed as satire to some extent, which is more than can be said for Call Me Maybe.

Tengu_temp

Gangnam Style is a satire. It's a satire of the very thing it's named after.

Agreed, and it's been stated by PSY as such.

That combined with "dress smart, dance silly," learning about the frequent cameos of various DJs and such in Korean music videos (the dance competition, the elevator guy, heck, the kid at the start was on Korea's got talent, and PSY asked if they could get him something like a week before the video filmed, don't recall who the guys playing chess are), realizing a lot of the dance pantomimed horseback riding (stereotypically associated with the Gangnam district, or at least the people who pretend they're from that district)...

I dunno, learning more about the intent and such took it from "this is stupid and overblown" to "this is awesome...and a bit overblown."

So it's actually comedy which works as comedy on at least 3-4 different levels? Damn. Respect!

The guys playing chess are Big Bang members Daesung and Seungri.

I can't find the source for it now, but I believe the guy on the skippy ball with PSY was a former minister.

It's worth remembering that PSY actually is a Gangnamite by birth, too. So while it could be seen as criticising the Gangnam style, it could also be seen as criticising the public image of the Gangnam style, and those who try to "fake it" by doing all the stuff he's doing in the video.

Look at the plus side: in a few years, people will be saying "Isn't that the korean guy that made a dance for Starcraft?"
