the clumsy bard

Hi everyone.
I am currently running a heavily modified version of Pathfinder's Crown of the Kobold King (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/fan-conversions/paizo-adventure-paths/gamemastery-modules/crown-of-the-kobold-king)
Towards the end of the dungeon they run into the kobold king (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/unique-monsters/cr-6/merlokrep-2)
Who is being defended by 2 guards (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/unique-monsters/cr-2/bloodscale-warrior)
Now I have already changed the king's stats around making him an aegis(psionics) due to the background of one of the PC's in the party.
I wanted to give the guards the ability to stop the PCs from charging the king directly.
Rebuilding them using these stats: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8
They are kobolds (https://sites.google.com/site/pathfinderogc/races/other-races/featured-races/arg-kobold) of course.
They will need to be level 2, so fighter 2 seems the best in terms of giving feats, but if anyone has a better suggestion I am all ears!
The current thoughts running through my head are combat reflexes + stand still, but my party likes to walk up and then take that annoying 5 foot step towards the enemy on the following turn and avoiding the attack of opportunity.
Any help or even tactics would be greatly appreciated.
