Hi everyone.

I am currently running a heavily modified version of Pathfinder's Crown of the Kobold King (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/fan-conversions/paizo-adventure-paths/gamemastery-modules/crown-of-the-kobold-king)

Towards the end of the dungeon they run into the kobold king (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/unique-monsters/cr-6/merlokrep-2)

Who is being defended by 2 guards (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/unique-monsters/cr-2/bloodscale-warrior)

Now I have already changed the king's stats around making him an aegis(psionics) due to the background of one of the PC's in the party.

I wanted to give the guards the ability to stop the PCs from charging the king directly.

Rebuilding them using these stats: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8

They are kobolds (https://sites.google.com/site/pathfinderogc/races/other-races/featured-races/arg-kobold) of course.

They will need to be level 2, so fighter 2 seems the best in terms of giving feats, but if anyone has a better suggestion I am all ears!

The current thoughts running through my head are combat reflexes + stand still, but my party likes to walk up and then take that annoying 5 foot step towards the enemy on the following turn and avoiding the attack of opportunity.

Any help or even tactics would be greatly appreciated.

If they move up, stop at 10 feet and then want to move 5 feet they need to wait until next round.

Give your kobolds reach weapons AND have them ready attacks vs approach.

That way you can get your readied attack AND either an AoO when they move in the threaten area or an attack when they stop (in order to move next round).

Even better, let them use their readied attacks to trip. Even if you don't give them Improved Trip (and you may want to, with the +2 to the maneuver), the reach should prevent most AoOs caused by the maneuver attempt from going off. That will help prevent the "I charge through anyway!" response.

Also you can use caltroops, marbles and other environment factors to make charging the king harder.

Put the king on a platform that you need to climb steps to the top and put the guards at the bottom. Difficult terrain still stops charging in PF right?

Give your kobold guards the Step Up feat. Your PCs won't be able to get away from them without provoking an AOO.
