Whilst thinking of a character concept for a future Skulls and Shackles campaign, I discovered the Aquatic Eidolon base form (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/summoner/eidolons#TOC-Aquatic) for the Summoner class. It has the Gills (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/summoner/eidolons#TOC-Gills-Ex-) and Swim (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/summoner/eidolons#TOC-Swim-Ex-) evolutions but no limbs. It has a base speed of 20ft. I would be grateful for answers to the following from rules lawyers.

Is breathing air an implied trait, making the base form amphibious?
Can it move on land at its base speed, even though it doesn't have any legs?
If so, is a shark-shaped Eidolon plausible in PF physics or would it have to be eel-shaped or octopus-shaped?
If given the Mount (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/summoner/eidolons#TOC-Mount-Ex-) and appropriate size evolutions, can it be ridden on land?

1. Yes, I would think so. The Gills evolution doesn't say it removes an eidolon's ability to breathe air, and I think its implied that eidolons can breathe air.

2. Yes, that's why it has a base speed listed alongside its swim speed. Note that the serpentine eidolon has no legs either, but still moves on land. You can also give your aquatic eidolon legs to make it faster.

3. Since the appearance is just fluff that would be up to you and your GM.

4. I think so. Why wouldn't it work?

It might move on land kind of like a walrus or sea turtle, just sort of pulling itself along with the fins. Or slithering as a snake. It can absolutely be ridden on land, although you'll have a hard time finding an appropriate saddle, so it's advisable to get the exotic saddle from WBL.

In short, the answer to all of these is yes.

1 - Yes

2 - Base speed is land speed, swim is writen next to it so it moove a 20 land speed

3 - Even medusa shaped it would moove a 20 feet on land how it moove is not defined and is just fluff

4 - 20 feet speed .. you are better walking ... ahead of it :p

Thank you for your answers. I'm glad there are no errata or designer's notes that could hurt the concept.

I'm thinking of a mermaid (female Merfolk) riding a shark-like Eidolon but it can't be Large till I'm 8th level. Are there any Small, aquatic races that can be played as PCs?
