After reading it for awhile, I just decided that all the party members had to be level 20. The silliness they pull off wouldn't make any sense otherwise.

Richard's a bit wierd, because they specifically call him a warlock, but I don't think warlocks can turn an entire room of people into skeletons. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/9)

More examples of his powers:
Turning a dragon to ice. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/12)
Doing things with ice. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/19)
More ice. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/108) Yet more ice. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/282)
Turning a sand dragon to glass (with fire). (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/58)
Playing with fire. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/18) More fire. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/311) Yet more fire. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/399) So much fire. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/465) Killing a dragon with fire. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/596) Blowing up a moon. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/618)
Straight-up attacking people and winning. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/28)
Feelin' no pain! (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/127)
No pain! (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/91)
"I'm a bearlock now." (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/134)
Controlling the elements (with help). (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/115)
Calling a hailstorm. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/70)
Powering an artifact. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/65)
Casting magic missile (and then setting himself on fire). (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/52)
Magic missile again. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/45)
Storing his power in a gem. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/156) Twice. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/193) Three times. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/246)
And then taking over a golem (from the gem). (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/205)
Storing himself in a crown (and subsequently killing people with it). (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/499)
Dancing lights. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/259)
Killing a... magma mephit? (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/276)
Casting... resilient sphere? (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/301)
Setting off a volcano. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/279)
Surviving magma. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/284)
Surviving decapitation. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/316)
Ironing himself. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/451)
Powering up from killing innocents. (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/475)
There's more I didn't link, but I think I got the major ones.

Perhaps Human Lich Sorcerer 16. I think it fits with what he does.

It's tempting to assume he's a gestalt, or into epic levels, to help justify his range of spells and power generation. My money is certainly on sorcerer, since it's pretty clearly spontaneous casting. However, I'm going to go ahead and make our lives harder by bringing this one up:

http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/28

"I drained the soul of a monk" doesn't fit with sorcery very well, certainly not to gain the monk's powers...

I believe he was originally supposed to be a Forsaken Warlock per World of Warcraft, but minus the demonology and with frost magic added on. Most of his abilities are dictated by plot rather than class.

Also, this handiwork (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcbazH6aE2g).

It can be safely said that Richard is more based in World of Warcraft than he is Dungeons and Dragons. His abilities throughout the Looking For Group comic are wildly powerful and quite varied. Honestly, his range of abilities rule out almost every core D&D class there is. No core class can use spells as often as he does while maintaining the ability to rip heads and faces off with his bare (bear?) hands. Now, some sort of insanely powerful homebrew class, which in no way should be played in the name of it's unbalance, might be appropriate.

Also, is anyone else looking forward to the movie? Coming in 2008!

I don't know. I've read the comic since the start and I haven't seen him do -much- that couldn't be explained away by him being a warlock. Most of his energy attacks can be explained away as differen combinations of eldritch essence and blast shape invocations.

The skeleton thing could be explained away by that one essence that causes a negative level with the chain blast-shape followed immediately by a quickened dead walk invocation before they even had a chance to fall over. Just because there was no visible laser-like effect doesn't mean the mechanics don't work.

His race is defintely something homebrewed though.

speculation that reveals something of the story:He may be human under a curse that gives him the qualities of a necropolitan as long as he "slays innocence"

Definitely upper-mid or high level though.

I think the spellcasting class that can rip heads off with bear hands is the Druid.

And remember, we always have the right to bear arms!

Perhaps he's a 20th+ level Factotum? He has a random skill rank in Craft: Newspaper that he can boost up to a +30 or higher on a whim, can use Monk abilities whenever he wants, and with a 2-level dip in Chameleon, he could grab Fell Animate to use on whatever attack he used to kill off the guards. He could do it as a straight Factotum if you rule that Wizard feats count as legal targets for Cunning Brilliance. Ranks in Perform and so on could give him his talent for the horrible atrocities he creates, Arcane Dilettante could explain his Magic Jar effect, a Reserve Feat would explain his inexhaustible ability to melt faces, and even ranks in Handle Animal to explain his inexplicably ability to get animals to do what he wants.

DMofDarkness...I like this analysis. I think I know what my next character is going to be.
